De La Hoya said he thinks the selection of Bayless will work to Mayweather's advantage.
"I think it favors Mayweather, absolutely," De La Hoya "There is no secret about that. I had heard Kenny Bayless was going to be the referee and that's one point for Mayweather right there. If you notice every fight Mayweather has had with Kenny Bayless, the referee should break them up if both hands are tied up and they're not throwing punches. If you notice, for instance with Maidana, when they got in close, right away Kenny Bayless would break them up.
"One hand would be free from the clinch but [he still broke them up]. It's an advantage for Mayweather."
He's been kinda fair to Manny in my opinion but the last Maidana-Mayweather fight it was another face of him. Overall i like him but Cmon Nevada...
I don't think tying up will be an issue for this fight anyways. Manny doesn't really tie up and mayweather only ties up pressure fighters. I see this fight being fought mainly on the outside anyways.
I don't see this fight on just on the outside. I see it both on the outside and inside, tying up being mostly initiated by Floyd. Manny does hold when he needs to although it's not often.Quote:

Manny would get beaten up on the inside anyway, so it wouldn't be to his advantage to try and fight there. Therefore, i don't see how Bayliss gives Mayweather any advantage. He's a strong ref and a good choice.

Race should never be an issue in a fight. I've just watched the Pacquiao Hatton fight where Bayless was the ref and he did an outstanding job minimizing the holding and roughhousing which was in favor of Hatton. Bayless is an excellent ref. Truth be told, I would love Smoger to to be the ref here but Kenny Bayless is my second choice.Quote:

No question Smoger is one of the best refs out there. Unfortunately, he's a court judge in New Jersey so he rarely strays outside of the state to referee fights. Therefore, you won't get to see him officiate in any of the big fights in Las Vegas any time soon.

He's consistently one of the top officials in the sport. I like his style because he lets the fighters fight. He's never too quick to break fighters on the inside and lets guys throw if they have a hand free.
I've never heard any controversy surrounding Tony Weeks. He refed the Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales fight (Say no more)

I think he'll never live stigma of him fumbling around the Mayweather - Ortiz fight down, not knowing what he's doing with, missing Mayweather knock Ortiz out, because he's too busy looking at the time kepper, I think that's his Richard Stele (Julio Cesear Chavez - Meldrink Taylor) moment. Something that will stick with him no matter what he does

To me he's the best guy out there, he's more mobile than Smoger who I feel is his only real challenger. He seems to always stop a fight at the perfect time, he breaks the fighters appropriately, and he never has any controversy surrounding him. He's the consummate professional.
He's mentioned little during the broadcast of a fight, almost invisible in the ring, as he gives the fighters plenty of space and isn't an overbearing presence.
I have one problem with Bayliss though
I'd tell him to put on some deodrant or don't were a nylon shirt or freeeze sweat glands before this fight. He sweats more than Barry White, Luther Vandross And Elvis put together. Hell - He sweats more than the fighters in the ring.
Don't wanna be seeing his sweat patches on that nylon blue shirt, there will be kids watching, not to mention billion other adults (lol)

Bayless is a good ref, he always breaks guys pretty quickly, and Pacquiao clearly won't want to tie up or fight on the inside against Floyd anyways. Biggest things to watch for here should be Floyd using the elbow or headbutts, otherwise no reason to expect the ref is a big factor at all imo.
Bayless is a good ref but he might go a little Cortez in this fight. I never expected it to happen but I wish they would have done things a little different for this fight given the 5 years of horseshit. A quality ref that nobody has heard of instead of a celebrity one or the appearance of it and the Vegas judges. It should have been international judges. Oh I know the Commission gets final say but that can be viewed and has been in other fights as part of the problem.
You see, its the appearance of impropriety that lends itself to something unjust in hindsight. From nothing something derives. I just hope its definitive and there is no controversy whatsoever.
