One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
The hype machine went into over drive on this one.
In the preview the boxing panel of Foreman, Lewis and Hopkins said that this was the third biggest fight ever behind
1) Joe Louis Vs Max Schemilling
2) Ali Vs Frazier
That now looks a disgraceful thing to say. This fight will be forgotten very quickly. Yeah sure, money wise it had the numbers. But this fight wont be talked about in 2 years time, never mind in 40 years time like the others have.
I wasn't as excited by this fight. I can think of a few fights that would excite more - Vlad Vs Wilder for one.
As for the fight. Mayweather did what he does - Win.
People may laugh when they hear Pac-Man thinking he won the fight or some others who have said that. Look - Pac-Man did not win the fight but I see were he's coming from because Pac-Man thinking "He never hurt me, had me in trouble, shaken me, had me down, cut me. I was forcing the fight, he kept tying me up on the inside. I've had harder sparring sessions" .......which is true.
But that statement is true of the majority of Mayweathers fights over the past 10 years.
They all could say that.
People forget, it's not what Mayweathers does to you, it's what Mayweather does not allow you to do to him, that wins him fights.
He doesn't allow his opponents to hurt him, nail him clean, gain momentum, he snuffs his opponent out. Thus because he does that. Mayweather doesn't have to do much in terms of being offensive to win fights. He does not have to beat the fighter down, he does not have to win rounds heavy, and get involved in big exchanges. He can just pop and stick and that's pretty much it, to win rounds, because he has not allowed the other fighter to do anything. I've always said the likes Erislandy Lara and Demitruis Andrade would be a nightmare for Mayweather. Stop thinking names. People say GGG. HE'LL STAND GGG ON HIS HEAD !!!! In fact I'll go as far to say that he'll beat GGG even if he came on the welterweight limit and GGG was a middleweight.
Is Mayweather TBE ? Defensively ? Yes. Offensively ? No.
Anyway are there are any other fights that excite you more than this ?
Can anyone think of others ? Nicholas Walters Vs Guillermo Rigondeaux is another one

I don't think this fight wil be talked about in 30 or 40 years time.
The Avengers was the third biggest movie of all time in terms of the money the film made. But it wont be remembered in the 30 years time and it for sure would not make any all time great movie list, now or in the future. That's how I see this fight.
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
The bigger counter puncher won , big deal , Marquez has always given Pac problems , Floyd is bigger and better so the result is no surprise.
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
Most people do not watch Floyd for his boxing skills but for his dancing partner and the hope they beat him. Floyd is so defensive that he provides no value for money. Floyd is vastly overpaid for what entertainment he provides. Running and holding to avoid interaction is not boxing skills and entertainment.
Crawford is boxing skills in action.
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
Nobody in the know thought this was anything remotely close to the biggest fight ever.
It might be the richest fight ever, but it's not even in the top 10 of the biggest ever.
Just imagine if Frazier/Ali 1 or Ali/Foreman could both be taken out of the 1970s & transplanted into 2015; imagine the numbers they'd generate?
It wouldn't surprise if a billion US dollars is generated.

You should add a couple of zeros to that 10.
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
Mayweather is boxing's greatest frustration for not giving the fans the fight they deserve which he himself has promised. He said he would come blazing. Pwehhhh. He came running and hugging Pac when Pac was pummeling him.

When was the last time Floyd was blazing! He is boring like Chelsea football club.
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
Floyd honestly reminded me of the old codger Hopkins the last half of the fight. Posing, clinching, popping, posing..waiting for the final bell.
Maybe for once it wasn't the long term fans fooled, but the Hollywood moths to a flame fans. If I heard "fight of the century" one more time I was going to start kneecappin folks ;D
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
It was always an overhyped bullshit fight.
This fight should have happened years ago when Manny was still at the top of his game and would have been more competitive, but that's boxing for you.
All the hype was built around the fighter that Manny used to be. The reality is that Manny is a shadow of his former self and hasn't knocked anyone out in years - and that's precisely why the fight was finally made. It was about one massive final payday for both fighters before they head off into retirement. Sure, Floyd is in decline as well, but his style is far betted suited to longevity and he was always going to win last night given the timing and circumstances. The bookies had him as a big favourite and rightly so.
The reality is that last night was about the fighters' names, not their current ability to fight. It reminds me of Leonard v Duran 3 and the lack of quality on display, and the outcome was the same.
It was a 12 round bore, a massive disappointment and anyone who paid to watch that probably feels cheated.
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
The fight came 5 years too late, but yet had the same result that it would have had ifit was made 5 years ago.
I find it hard to think of a fight that bored me more this year.

Good comparison with Leonard vs Duran 3.
I felt both fighters were at least 80% of their best heading in and hadnt lost much.
But manny lost his killer instinct n didn't wanna risk being KO'd by a counter. He didn't dare to be great.
Had this happened years ago, when it should have happened, it really would have been a great fight that would have been difficult to call. Manny's all-action style, accuracy, power and speed would undoubtedly have given Floyd some problems, but that's precisely why it didn't happen back then.
Champions handpick their opponents, facing them at a time that suits them. It's about keeping the belts, making money and extending the career. They all do it. We've missed out on so many great fights over the years for these reasons.
Manny's work rate and speed last night were poor, his accuracy was terrible and he got soundly beaten by a guy who didn't exactly let the punches go either - exactly as Floyd and those of us in the know expected.
Floyd did what Floyd does. It's boring to me at least, but it's been enough to earn him a truckload of cash and win 48 fights without too much trouble. You can't expect Manny to turn the clock back and produce something he's no longer capable of and you can't expect Floyd to change his style just to make a fight more interesting if it plays into his opponent's hands.
It went as expected. Even those who built up the hype knew in their hearts that this fight was likely to be nothing like it could have been had it happened 5 years ago. It was a disappointing night and tells us nothing about what might have been and even though they have actually fought, people will still ask what would have happened if Floyd and Manny had fought each other in their primes.

You guys must not read my post. I've been saying this for months. There was no way I was buying this fight. A all time great match up? These people must be high. It's not even in my top 10.

I think a lot of us were wishing we could wish something special
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
Duran vs Leonard:
outcome: a man (Duran) has become legend, a boy (Leonard) has become a man
Mayweather vs Pac
outcome: ??? such a garbage fight, it was not even a fight...
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
Pacquiao really let everyone down.

Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
Best selling ppv there has ever been and the money it grossed is unheard of these guys are fucking rich as shit from this fight highest pay day for a athlete that there has ever been. But the fight it self was a chess match which means it was no Leonard vs Hearns by any means if that what you mean but i dont think anyone hear that that to be the case even if you only follow it a tad should know better. I think people forget this is not a movie it is a real sport with real pros and this blood bath most likely wont happen.

We do read your posts and many of us were saying the same thing so you must not be reading my posts. However the thought of Arum, Floyd and Roach smiling all the way to the bank at the expense of the boxing fans feels horrible.
Re: One Of The Biggest Fight Of All Time ? Yeah Right
You know what i think the fight had some worth because it caused so many brainwashed manny fans to total shut down and act like the twats they are. Like brucelee talking all that shit only to see his boy get stopped in his tracks. People say Mayweather hits have not effect then why was pac staying in same spot for so long even backing off i guess he must have no chin. I hate the bullshit that pac gets away with the guy treated like god and does no wrong but doesn't pay taxes and cheats on his wife. Not only that but he cherry picks as much Mayweather does never called on it cant even man up and say he lost. I mean say what you want Mayweather is not a good person but he humble winner and backs up his talk i mean shit not like pac is some great person him self but yet no one calls his bs arum won pretty much.
