Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
Apparently Eubank has signed for this fight but Saunders is dragging his heels and doesnt want it. On his own twitter hes saying hes been out 6 months and needs to blow the cobwebs off.
This was obviously Frank Warrens big announcement that didnt happen.
Sources in Las Vegas have advised BoxingScene.com that a deal is nearly complete for a late June rematch between British middleweight rivals Billy Joe Saunders (21-0, 11KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr. (19-1, 14KOs).
They fought last November, with Saunders winning a razor close twelve round split decision. Saunders has yet to fight again, but Eubank bounced back in February with a twelfth round knockout of previously unbeaten Dmitry Chudinov to capture the interim-WBA middleweight title.
The two fighters were scheduled to appear in separate fights on Saturday night, and they were pulled as the rematch drew closer.
Eubank, who is currently training in Las Vegas, has already signed a contract to face Saunders in the rematch. Saunders, who is on board with the match, is said to be signing shortly.
Promoter Frank Warren is said to be in the process of securing a soccer stadium for late June. No date or venue has been finalized as of yet.

Yes that's right a magical contract singed with dust from the sugar plumb fairy.

Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
originally this was billed as a WBO interim title match up, with the winner supposedly fighting Lee when he comes back from injury . none of the above confirms this, and if it isn't for the WBO title, then why the fuck should BJS fight Eubank yet?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Warren is not looking out for BJS's best interests, he's making these match ups for quick money for meaningless fights. Warren couldn't deliver a shot for Saunders before, but now Korobov has been beat, Quillin, can't be fucked to make the weight, Lee is Injured, what reason can Warren possibly give for not delivering that Shot for BJS now?
it's not a case of BJS avoiding Eubank, he's already said to Eubank's face "you had your chance, you fucked it up, now you'll have to wait till I become World Champ, and when that happens, I'll give you first Shot and beat you again!"
Tell me, what is so wrong with wanting to be a World Champion?

I am a Eubanks fan but Saunders should move on and target Lee and win the title. The rematch would be even bigger.

Theres no Lee fight for at least 6 months. Hes saying hes injured. The WBO then allowed Saunders to fight for an interim WBO title against Eubank in a rematch but Saunders wants to sit it out and wait for Lee, with a warm up inbetween. Eubank wants it and has signed, Saunders hasnt signed yet and says he doesnt want to.
Saumders is going nowhere right now. Eubank is now higher regarded than Saunders because hes taken a good meaningful fight inbetween which some people thought hed lose and he looked impressive, fantastic stamina. I think this is why Saunders isnt signing.

Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
Saunders won, of course Eubanks will sign for the rematch he lost, so he can afford to wait it out for Lee. All credit to him.

Saumders only got a split decision.
Eubank has improved since then Saunders has litterally stagnated.

You know as well as me Saunders is waiting. He did not expect Lee to get injured. He is the top contender which he has rightfully earned. Why should he challenge Junior again? It was a close decision as you, why take unnecessary risk.
Fighters wait out at times for the right opportunity. If I was advising Saunders I would tell him to take an easy warm up and wait for Lee.
I would not sign.

Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
What I don't understand is that Eubank is not even in the top 15 in the WBO Rankings. How can the WBO Leapfrog every other fighter in their rankings to make this fight. How do they feel about that?
Infact, apart from the WBA, he is not in the top 15 of any governing bodies rankings!
Nowhere in the report at the start of this thread, or any report in the last week, does it mention a WBO Interim match. I reckon Warren started that off to try to justify it.
I think that after the 1st fight, the rematch should come about after both have progressed a bit , otherwise there's no real difference, it's just making fights for the sake of making money. If they keep fighting each other, how are they going to progress their relative prospects of becoming World Champ?
They'll end up fighting each other 6 times, making decent money and never chasing World Titles. Makes no sense to me , and it's why the Americans think the Brits blow sunshine up their own asses with no substance.

How can you say that Eubank Jr has improved when he has had 1 fight against Chudinov since BJS
I cant see why BJS would take the fight he doesn't need to prove anything to JR again, he beat him, he moves on, why risk it

He has improved. His work rste was better thoughout this fight. In the Saunders fight it was his first 12 rounder and hed never been beyond 8. Loads of fighters have said how this plays on their mind as they progress. Now hes donw the 12 a couple of times and finished both very strongly against undefeated belt holders he has more confidence.
I do agree with Primo that I would prefer to see each progress a bit more first. Id like to see Eubank push his WBA ranking and take on Jacobs.

WBO = Warren boxing organisation.

Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
No way can you say Eubank has improved since. He looked better against Chudinov then he did against Saunders because Chudinov is a far worse opponent than Saunders.
Its a close fight so its not worth it when he is the one risking everything. He is due a world title fight and might as well hold out for that. Its comical that you suggest a number 1 contender face a dangerous prospect just before his world title fight.

Im not the one suggesting it. You think im the promoter here?;D
It was Saunders that said he would do it at their last press conference. Warren said hed go away and look at it and now Saunders doesnt want it.

Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
Sanders was in a good position, number one contender for the title, paid step aside money
for Lee to fight the former champ, and now he's waiting to fight Lee ,!!!!!!! strange how things
work out, it does seem there is a balls up in the best laid plans of mice and men.;)
-
Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
Saunders is well aware of how close the first fight was , so why would he risk a title shot to fight Eubank ?
The more Eubank's stock rises the better Saunders win looks on paper.
-
Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
I'd pick Eubank jr to win this time. Btw , anyone hear that JM Marquez fought last week?
-
Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
Saunders cant do the rematch because he will lose his mandatory position by fighting Eubank who is the intermediate WBA holder. Eubank doesnt want to relinquish his belt and Saunders, get this... Doesnt want to lose his position sitting round on his ass with nothing to his name and no still with more of a guarantee of a match with Lee at the end of it.

Beating Eubank gives Saunders the right to do as he chooses , if he want's to wait for a shot at Andy Lee then so be it, what's the problem ?
Frank Bruno waited inactive for 18 months before he fought Tyson in 1988 , it isn't the first time its happened.
He may feel Lee is an easier fight than Eubank and a chance to hold a world belt and make some money.

Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
If I was Saunders I'd tell 'em all to fuck off too unless I was getting a serious boatload of dough. Why should he rematch Eubank right now? And if Eubank wanted Saunders that bad why let a micky mouse belt get in the way? All a load of bollocks

Re: Eubank Jr signed but Saunders doesnt want rematch
saunders beats him again anyway. but let him have a title shot first, you know eubanks wouldnt give the rematch had he won the fight.

To be honest this fight bores me now. Eubank should and will continue to progress against other top rated fighters as he has already done while Saunders fucks around going nowhere.

I agree with Ross on one thing, this fight bores me. I'd be very happy to see Eubank get a shot at Jacobs, if he beat him , he can be taken seriously.
I think both fighters have got to go and enhance their reputations by fighting other people , not each other. And then , when they've done that and there's a proper belt or 2 on the line, the fight will be worth a fortune to both of them.
