In no way will it be a great win for Canelo just due to the styles and recent history of each guy. Kirkland is hot and cold though, so if he clearly shows up to fight, is able to weather some punishment and land his own punches it could prove a test. I expect a beat down myself.
Should be a decent win. Kirkland was tko'd before and in one round so that takes away from if CAnelo ko's him too.
I would say on a stream and it doesn't mean a great deal. I will be supporting Kirkland as ginger hair is the product of satanism.
I think Alvarez isn't getting any better and may be getting worse since the Mayweather fight. If Kirkland has trained properly and turns up to fight this could be interesting.
I agree with all of the above. Obviously, Kirkland has the power that enables him to pull off a surprise at any moment... but the odds are against him. I'm rooting for him all the way, but in no way will get carried away with HBO's ridiculous avalanche of praise over Canelo. They're bent on hyping him as the next big thing... and will not be deterred. Just goes to show what determined hype can do. Floyd's humiliation of Canelo will be forgiven and forgotten.
Also quite surprised to see Canelo has been so inactive since Lara. I didn't realise that. Hopefully Kirkland is motivated and we can just get some good action.
No, I disagree with Jones here. I think Manny was clearly the difference between the two and not 38 year old, clingy Mayweather who in the view of his own Dad was 'fighting scared'. Manny simply wasn't there.
Alvarez needs a career slap and to get out of this identity crisis. What we have is a made to order opponent where he can actually shine as a thinking boxer AND look devastating. Something missing recently :-X My foot might end up in my mouth but I'm thinking

Alvarez couldn't have looked much better but to be fair Kirkland couldn't have looked much worse.

Why is James Kirkland even taking fights without Ann Wolfe in his corner? Not saying he would have won this with her, but he definitely wasn't going to win it without her.

It was a pitiful showing from Kirkland, meanwhile HBO was riding both fighters trying to suggest it was something meaningful. Kirkland hadn't fought in a couple of years and on getting knocked down, got up and did the same thing again and again. 'Oh, but look at the will, look at the will!' was all HBO could say. Please, pull the other one! HBO has almost become boxing's version of CNN. Tell the truth! He fought a predictable and stupid fight. Instead, it's constant marketing. Canelo is HBO's Royal baby. Kirkland is a great warrior, but Canelo is a greater boxer.
The fight lived up to the hype. "This fight will not go the distance, someone is getting knocked out."
Alvarez took care of business with style and dispatch. I don't think this fight adds a lot to his rep, but it certainly cements what's already there.
I think the question should be will Kirkland go back into retirement to avoid being exposed further.(I think that's the first time I've ever said "exposed about a boxer because I hate that term. But this fight was exactly as it was supposed to be. Planned by GBP, HBO, and Canelos team. It wasn't boxing, it was staged reality TV)
James comes to fight though. I would pay to watch him anytime. As long as he is healthy. I don't think Canelo expose him because that fight with Ishidah 4 years ago already showed Kirkland just as vulnerable. This knockout was pretty brutal. Hopefully he rest up and turns out alright.Quote:
