A catchweight of 144 or 145. This should be fun.
That's a great goddamn fight right there and I'll be the first to say it, Broner is going to get the shit knocked out of him. This will be worse than the Maidana fight. Broner doesn't have the punching power at 147 to keep Porter honest. He's been shit at 147, he needs to get his ass back down to 140.
He needs to be going after guys like Danny Garcia or Terrence Crawford. Shawn Porter at 147 is all wrong for him. The fight makes absolutely no sense for him. Catch weight or not.
I'm also thinking Broner has bitten off more than he can chew here. Porter's size and pressure will be big factors to overcome.
Crawford is a tough fight but IMO a winnable fight for Broner if he's on.
To me, he's going to get destroyed by Porter. I could be wrong but that's the way I see it.
No doubt in my mind Porter will make mincemeat out of him. Crawford is not to be underestimated, though. He's crafty... and a cool cat in there. He'll study you and exploit your weaknesses. Broner has plenty of those.
This will be a GREAT fight! I think Porter will be too physical and active for Broner, but I honestly feel like Adrian is tougher than he gets credit for. Maidana kicked his ass most of the fight but from what I remember, Maidana was gassed and holding on to just last the distance towards the end of that fight.
I like Porter more and hope he wins but he didn't seem to handle Brooks' speed and punches that well so I see Broner as a legitimate threat to win. Paulie had no power to worry about, so part of me thinks Porter may be slightly overrated (and Broner can hit MUCH harder than Paulie, even at 147). Either way, I'm looking forward to this fight and think it is a "can't miss" scenario for the fans.
I feel like people are over rating porter or underrating broner. I'm not necessarily saying that broner wins but he is tough and is still very quick and talented. He just doesn't have much of a punch at 147. Porter has a punch but seems to rely more on his athleticism rather than skill. I think that broner slows porter down a lot.
Heard this is on for June 20th in the MGM. Not a fan of AB and am of Porter. Porter a good quality dude, I root for him and hope he smashes Broner.
Who ya'll got?
Heard this earlier, but I'd be surprised if it happened myself. Broner was saying Porter doesn't have the name or doesn't sell enough:rolleyes: In other words, he knows its a really tough fight that could all but end his chances of being a main attraction. Think it would be a great fight if it did happen though, not sure who I'd pick.
id bet on porter
:)
This is a good fight if it happens, and I'm not even going to moan about the Catchweight , because it's justified. I do think that Porter could fall into Broner's traps, but Porter should have more power. I think Broner may just outpoint him, but it's a flip of a coin really.
I have been a bit sceptical about Al Haymon having so many fighters under him and their inactivity, but the match ups we've seen so far on this PBC thing have been pretty good. here's hoping.
Good matchup. Been far to long since we last saw Broner getting his face smashed in
Fighters who have a fan base don't care if the other guy doesn't.
It's booked Broner-Porter Booked For June 20
I think it's a bad mistake for Broner not to stay at 140 as there's loads of good fighters he could shine against, build a name and make some cash but maybe he just can't make weight down there anymore.
He's the better boxer out of the two but he'll probably get a Maidana flashback.
Great, this should be a nice fight. As much as Broner is a turd, you can't really knock who he fights, or how for that matter. Says the fight is at 145, but neither can weigh more than 155 the day of though:-\ I don't mind a catchweight in general, but having two is a bit much? Making weight is making weight, don't think it should matter how much a guy rehydrates and this might hurt Porter a little bit, when clearly everyone wants to see him at 100%;D
Agreed, dislike Broner but like that he took this fight. I was a bit taken aback at how Brook took Porter, didn't expect such a one way fight. Right after Porters inhalation of Paulie (what happened to the PED allegation Paulie threw out) This could prove to be a barn burner, I think Broner is realizing he actually needs to work to be a great fighter, not just run his mouth.
Porter is going to beat Broner and get back on track.
Porter is a gigantic welter. Didn't he have to strip naked to make weight against Brook? And he can't rehydrate past 155?
Hopefully he does what all the other Haymon fighters are doing and comes in overweight and smashes Broner to bits. If Porter isn't drained he'll be all over Broner. It'll be like Maidana-Broner except Porter is more skilled than Maidana.
Team Porter obviously don't think the catchweight and the hydration clause are a problem. Hopefully they hire a nutritionist and make the weight without being drained. If Porter looks a shadow of himself and Broner wins I'll be extremely disappointed.
That's what I was thinking, Porter is a big guy and could easily fight at 154, never mind weighing that in the ring. Totally disagree that he's more skilled than Maidana myself though.
Anyone else see this as broner taking the opportunity to try and emulate floyd's performance against manny? The issue I see here for Porter is that Porter likes to get hook happy and broner will try to pick at him from the outside with the jab and pivot away and when Porter gets inside, Broner will shell up and counter from inside and then try to tie him up. Porter may find him but i think his height will work against him as broner leans back and out of reach.
If porter takes the body first the heady will fall. Lets just hope he learned something from his loss to brook and picked up some head movement. And uses his strength to rag doll Broner around the ring if he starts clinching and holding.
Broner will win this. I don't rate Shawn Porter at all. The dude is bang average. Broner has qualities but his Floyd impersonation/rising far too quickly through the weights without learning his craft has hurt him big time. I say Broner on points.
Also this is an Al Haymon fight as part of PBC so it'll likely be fixed. Porter won't make Al any money, Broner is a dick and unfortunately, it sells so my thinking is that if AB is in trouble, then those scorecards will be bought n paid for.
Porter has more to lose. If he loses again, it's back to ESPN. Broner will still will be in the spotlight regardless of the outcome.
This is the desired result of Haymon buying up 1001 contracts. Double header cards with bigger matches next time out. The catchweight limit is bullshat and is tailor designed to benefit Broner. We all know he..both are pushing Lt. hvy and a deep dish pizza between bouts. Catchweight ffs. Seriously just shut up and fight. This is the literal sink or swim showcase for both who have run a bit sideways and bought into the hype.
Awesome match up. Porter still gets hit with a lot of dumb punches and can be just as sloppy as a James Kirkland. On strength and bullying Broners backfoot and legs this is all Porter. He will not afford Broner the comfort and ultimately get into Broners wheelhouse. Broner showed a good jab last out by he needs to volley and move his feet! Down the middle Porter runs into punches. Get away from that bend back horseshoe stance. Porter will crush that. Guaranteed very busy ref hopefully lets them work. This could be a real inside shoot out at end. I think Porter gets it, he'll manage to eventually trap trade and traumatize Broner one too many times.
I don't mind the initial catchweight, think thats fair, but the same day 155 thing definitely would seem to help Broner. I don't agree with those expecting Porter in a big way either, he definitely can win but he's not as good as Maidana I'm telling you right now.
Porter I feel will be way to strong, he will walk through Broner don't think he has the punch power
to hold Porter off, Brook had the power to hold Porter off his punch power, was a major factor.
I can see Broner getting beat up, I do hope so.;D
I think there is far too much drama in boxing fans. "Haymon will buy the scores...." GBPs has been involved in many many many terrible score cards, TR too. To act like it is just Haymon....psshh
And "this is a sink or swim for both", 2 years ago the question was should Khan retire. People have to see that all this stuff is far more dramatic than reality. Boxers lose. If they have a good fight both will be brought back against top guys. If they stink out the joint the loser may need to do a rebuild(if it is Porter, if AB loses he has options still). Unless Spicoli only meant that the loser clearly isn't going to be staying at the elite level, that I agree. As is I think eithers spot is questionable. Broner because of lack of devotion, Porter because of physical limitations.
Should be a good fight)))
i hope broner wins
i dont think he will likes
Really looking forward to this fight, I give broner a good shot of beating porter very good evenly matched fight
In reality Khan is one crash test dummy impersonation away from being a trivia question...and he fights Algieri last seen rolling around on the floor like a 5 yr old refusing to go to bed. Who honestly cares about that ? Porter and Broner are not elite, that is the jist of this match. Been established as both have been rebuilding after frankly being schooled...of course you need to rebuild Ron??? Two flawed but willing skilled guys under same promotion but I don't agree with tomorrow is guaranteed regardless of outcome. Guys who believe and start thinking that are called journeymen. Broner has wasted a lot of time and non effort with weight ballooning and ignoring his craft..and believing he was actually #5 p4p :cwm13: He's also still a sucker for rights when he pulls out. This is a fantastic scrap, promotion wins either way but winning means everything. Loser co mains the next Berto card :-X
Being a journeyman is okay if you're paid well. I don't think these guys should expect much more. There are probably 15 guys(maybe more)that can beat Broner between 140-147. Getting paid well in that scenario is about all that can be asked.
Broner is a twat and disrespectful to the craft(which bothers me far more than the rest because I don't care about his personality) but damned if I can't think of fight after fight I'd like to see him in. And while he's had his soft touches I get the vibe if Al says get in the ring with King Kong AB would say yessir.
Porter actually needs the win to be relevant. I think people want to see Broner win or lose(hoping to see him lose)
I think Khan can be rebuilt again after another loss, it's happened so fast so many times. Look at Zab, time after time people spoke of "if he is just focused". People see fast hands and elite athleticism and they lose track that boxing is 95% mental. Right now people think he can jump in and out flurrying on Mayweather as if Floyd wouldn't put a stop to that 30 seconds into the fight. Don't underestimate how many times people are willing to be fooled by speed.
This is a tough fight for Broner, I see Porter mauling him but with the CW and the rehydrate limit makes it a little closer. I see a possibility of Broner squeaking out a close decision but I'll be surprised if he does.
Honestly, it's a shame that the cynic in me sees this as a surprisingly easy fight for Broner due to the catchweight.
I mean, I don't see why Porter took the fight at a catchweight. It's not like Broner has never fought at 147 and I'm sure Porter used to fight as a light-middleweight. Just seems like either Porter has been forced into the fight (at given conditions) by Haymon and/ or his guys (to continue making 'good' Haymon fights), or Porter is just a bit of a dummy :-\
I dunno man, I just feel like Porter has lost the fight before he even started - which like I said, is a shame because this could of been a fun fight and does include two interesting names but yeah, I think this will be about jabs and posturing and will just fall flat.
Broner's fight to win IMO.
