Nicholas Walters-Miguel Marriaga --- HBO/BN. Fact.

Miguel Marriaga? Who? Put him in this site's search engine... never been mentioned.

Fella is 20-0 (18 ko's). Impressive. Although, of course, he hasn't beaten anybody - does have a half-decent win over a fella called Christopher Martin, who had never been stopped, and took Gary Russell jr the distance after getting smashed by Marriaga (fight is on youtube). But get this - he has two amateur wins over Walters. They're the same age.

Now obviously amateur results can be dramatically reversed in the pro's. Walters pro form is streets ahead of anything Marriaga has achieved plus he's in his pomp and a top P4P chinning merchant.

I expect he has improved past Marriaga and will blast him out but....

1. Unbeaten
2. 90% KO ratio
3. Beat opponent before
4. Same age (so it's not an experienced amateur beating a novice)

Bookies make that fighter a 7/1 shot.

Good research and this could end up being competitive or an upset. Looks very intriguing.

Of course, it could also end up like Miguel Cotto vs. Kelson Pinto. Lol

I hadn't heard of Marriaga, interesting that he has the wins over him though. Suspect neither of them were by stoppage? This was a voluntary defense as the guy isn't highly ranked, so Walters people must not be to worried. I'm guessing it will go down more like Tyson vs Tillman than MOsley vs Forrest, but you never know.

This should be a bombs away fight for as long as it goes.

I think and hope Walters goes on to big things, just a fun effective calculating style. Marriaga will not pull a Precott but looks the same in ring and hopefully invest in the power.

I honestly was. I read my piece back thinking I already made that point only to see I hadn't.

We're due a big upset. Walters isn't hard to hit either.

Really looking forward to this one. Plenty of boxing on this weekend so my nights are planned.

From what I've read, Walters' people weren't overly excited about this match-up. Marriaga is a live dog with Walters the favorite. I like this fight. I agree bombs away for as long as it lasts. Good post, @Fenster.

Walters is like a mini Julian Jackson , this is an exciting matchup.

Walters never made weight so loses title on the scales. Cant say I'm that surprised but there goes my Loma vs Walters hopes for now.

Walters is a huge Featherweight so it isn't a huge shock but I had no idea he was having difficulty making weight. I'm pretty gutted as it takes some of the lustre away from a great fight. Too many guys coming in over the weight limit these days.

The Top Rank feed just showed a couple of seconds of Walters/Marriaga warming up. They're in t shirts so hard to tell but Walters looks huge by comparison.

Verdejo about to KO this kid. Needs to move up in class.

No shit he's got some chin. Even when he went down his eyes were clear and he got straight up. Duddy-like punch resistance.

And he gets up smiling again and clear eyed. Felix got heavy hands from either side.

Never heard of either of these guys but watching the fight. I feel like hbo is all about walters though i feel the fights been pretty even so far.

So pissed that I am out if town and I can't find a place to watch this fight. I get the feeling that Walthers is disappointing though. I hope he looks impressive before it is all said and done because I was slowly becoming a fan.

Start of 11 and both guys looking a little shellshocked. Walters almost certainly wins on points but subdued victory. The crowd came for Verdejo and didn't even react when Walters got the KD. Will Walters have his power carry up to 130+? We may have seen the best of him as far as TV entertainment goes.

Picking up on a big dislike between Kellerman and Roy ;D. Walters looking pretty lethargic and glad to hear end of 12th. In control but just work

I enjoyed that. Was expecting a ko but pleasantly surprised on the boxing match that ensued. Walters showed a lot more tonight as far as smarts and clean effective counter punching. Not just a ko artist.

The 10 pound difference was very apparent. Had they weighed the same it may have been a different story. Kudos to both fighters.... great fight.
