Name a fighter's absolute best years in the ring
Oscar De La Hoya: 1997 - 2002 (Even though I believe he lost to Whitaker in 1997).

Add the fact that he was going blind in one eye as well (rare mentioned fact)

Re: Name a fighter's absolute best years in the ring
Hatton 2004-2007
Despite a tidy win over Paulie after FMJ it was all down hill. Struggled with Lazcano, got planked by future Plankee King, Manny, and then came back to get stopped by Sencehnko, a guy Hatton would have had for breakfast ( or a mid morning snack at least ) during his prime.

Trinidad: '94 to 2000
His win over Joppy in early 2001 was epic... but TBH, Trinidad was going to run into a full-fledged MW sooner or later and that came in the form of Hopkins. His best weights were 147 and 154. His classic win over Fernando Vargas is still my favorite fight of all time.

Cassius Clay
April 1967 thru October 1970
They said that these were his best years. It could be true, as he was never beaten in the Ring for this time span.
But, Cassius could not beat his chest, stating that he was the best anymore.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"That is true. In 1970, I didn't have a damn thing growing on my chest either, other than 'mosquito bites'."
Donna Mills .... 1970 ... Age; 29
Height .......... 5' 4"
Weight ......... 112 lbs.
Shape .......... 33 ~ 24 ~ 33

He didn't look that sharp against Zora Foley. Did the war controversy begin before this fight took place? It may have had an affect on Ali's preparation for this fight. He wasn't quite as cut either.

Re: Name a fighter's absolute best years in the ring
Charles 'Sonny' Liston
1958 thru 1961
Sonny's wins over Floyd Patterson were 'expected'.
Sonny started to slow down at the end of 1960.
They started to call him ...... 'Mr. Molasses'.
But, not to his face.

3 years seems to come up again and again as a prime period of years.

Re: Name a fighter's absolute best years in the ring
Jerry Quarry
Appeared to have '5' different times where was at his 'best'.
* September 15, 1967 -thru- April 26, 1968
* January 26, 1969 -thru- December 12, 1969
* June 17, 1970 -thru- October 26, 1970
* July 24, 1971 -thru- June 27, 1972
* January 5, 1973 -thru- June 17, 1974
An 'up-and-down' career for the 'Quintessential Bridesmaid'.

Wait a second. Can someone improve as they get older.

In the 1971 movie > 'Play Misty For Me"
A few years later, Clint Eastwood said he called Donna Mills .......... 'Marble Tits'.
"When we were up close and tight, it felt like she had 'small marbles' for Tits."

I would say that Donna Mills was a 'Plain Jane' back then. She was cute. She wasn't into
sexing it up. She was as plain as they come. No dolling it up stuff.
She was also 'very clean'. I mean, tasty clean like you wouldn't believe.

Re: Name a fighter's absolute best years in the ring
Evander Holyfeild from 1986-1993 unstoppable owning ever champ he faced at cw and the going up to heavyweight taking out former champs getting the lineal title. After that winning the rematch with Bowe and pretty much having health problems after words marked the end of him.

Holyfield was inconsistent and fought stupid at times. Cooper rocked him and Bowe beat him. The cruiser weight years he was flawless.

Evander Holyfield
Will 'never' pass for a Brain Master. But without question, he had the 'biggest' Heart.

We are talking about best years and Holyfields was at cruiserweight.

Re: Name a fighter's absolute best years in the ring
Evander Holyfield
* November 1, 1984 ....... Age; 22 years, 1 months
-thru-
* April 9, 1988 ............... Age; 25 years, 5 months
Yes, that run {3 years, 4 months} was incredible.
Quite possibly, the most unbeatable fighter ever at his weight.

Re: Name a fighter's absolute best years in the ring
Smokin' Joe Frazier
June 1967 thru April 1970
Maybe, the most 'unbeatable' Heavyweight during this period.
Joe was only 75% of himself from April 1970 thru the 'FOTC' on March 8, 1971.
During 1972, Smokin' Joe was 'not' in the best of shape.
By January 1973, he was 'too over-confident', less-focused and not as well disciplined.
