Carl Froch Officially Retires From Boxing, Joins Sky Sports - Boxing News
Thanks for all of the great memories, you will never be forgotten for all of the great outstanding fights you have been part of.
I'm not a Froch fan , but I respect the fact that he had a good career for his limitations of Boxing Skills. I think he's definitely made the right decision , although it will be difficult for him to deal with the lack of a "Buzz". Calzaghe found that also when he finished.
I hope he has a good retirement.
How long till he brings up Calzaghe again?
This seems like an odd time to retire.
I expect him to come out of retirement and fight GGG.
No surprise really and probably the right decision.
He's looked anything but impressive in his last two fights and has achieved quite a lot for a guy with limited skills. Apart from a potential fight with GGG, there wasn't much else out there for him.
Simply a warrior I'm glad he's retired and happy for him he's given us some amazing moments and is one of the most exciting fighters the UK has ever produced.
I will never forget the buzz he gave me when he knocked out Jermaine Taylor in the final seconds of that fight.
#Warrior 😊
Whether or not you thought he was a massive prick, it can't be denied that he ended up being a terrific fighter - hard as nails, fearless and never in a pony fight.
Great fighter and had a great career. He is an arsehole but so are most boxers and you really have to appreciate how many times this man has entertained us with his fights.
That being said, it's quite clear that George Groves ruined him with the 2 beatings he dished out before that lucky punch ;D
Good for him, if you've decided you had enough of something it's best to get out.
He had a great career in the ring and I'm sure he'll do well outside the ring.
I'm sorry he didn't get that Vegas fight he wanted. Good luck!
Carl gave it his all got to respect that, he has made loads of money got to respect that too but got to see him on sky dont want that, the man has the personality of Charlie big potatoes and all we are going to hear is how good he thought he was, bring back JC to tell him what a real champ is.
If you're thinking about getting out, it's probably best to get out. He was a very good fighter and put on some great matches.
I find it strange that he didn't want another crack at Ward, but if that's what he wants to do then more power to him. Wish him the best and hope he can transition well back to civilian life.
But when he says "I have nothing left to prove", it depends on what he's talking about. If he feels that his legacy was of a very good fighter and a true warrior, he has nothing left to prove.
If he feels that he should rank among the UK's best, with guys like Calzaghe and Hatton, then I think he's wrong - he hasn't proved that at all.
I remember the look on his face when Taylor dropped him. Others who were watching with me said Taylor did it. But i remember saying, i dunno....that white dude looks composed...
And as far as his last two fights. Some say he didn't look his best without considering this is a veteran who finds ways to win. That's what great fighters do.
He left like he started. Winning by any means necessary.
Now,
Will be stay retired?
Maybe froch and Calzaghe will become chums.;D
He has been a takE one give one back warrior , honest and down to earth.
But he wasn't in many dull fights , enjoy your retirement you deserve it.
What are the bets that he will be tempted to make a comeback when Groves and Regale become established champions?
I like froch but he should have tried to avenge his loss against ward.
Perhaps after the paul smith beating he decided its best he walks away.
He is a warrior, there is no doubting that. Struggled at times and seemed to make fights harder than they needed to be, but that was his style. He simply couldn't resist a tear up. His hand speed and reflexes were good, if not blistering, and had to be when he fought with that hands by the side style, ( something Jim Watt always fretted about - "I wish he would tighten up his defence" ) but his chin and heart were world class. The kind of heart that even when injured he would bite down and just get on with it. Smashed his hand up early in the McGee fight, still dropped him like a sack of spuds late on with it, delivering a brutal uppercut, went into the Pascal fight f*$*ed up from sparring and still had an all out war ;D
He did us proud in the super six and made that transition up onto the world stage with the same style, something that looked like being a mistake in the Dirrell fight until he literally made a last minute, last ditch attempt, in what was the last chance saloon, pulling the hot iron well and truly out of the fire. It's not often that a TV fight gets you up on your feet but I am pretty sure I was not alone for that one.
He met his counterparts somewhat in Johnson and Kessler, beating the Jamaican at the first attempt but needing a second bite at the cherry to beat Mikkel. He completely surprised us all with a great display of boxing to dismiss Abraham, even if Abraham always did seem to be a bit over hyped and limited. He can be a bit annoying outside of the ring, but that same self belief defined his career, and utterly demolished Bute, in what was at the time, a massive upset.
He let Groves get under his skin and nearly paid the price early on in their first fight but even Carl himself could probably have not designed or dreamed an ending so emphatic than the one that put the young contender on his back, leg twisted ugly and bent under him. I think it was McCraken that came up with the Cobra moniker at the last minute before a fight, but Froch was no Hearns just like Ricky was no Hitman before him. That said, on a British level he is definitely up there with the Eubanks, Benns and Watsons, Collins etc, even if we will never really know if he could have beaten them. Unlucky to have fought a career at a weight in which here in the UK we have had, and continue to have such a strong roster.
Well done Champ, and thanks for the memories, you did yourself and the country proud in carrying on a long tradition of ballsy fighters, who though not always the greatest boxers, are born fighters to the end.
:drinker::appl:
Not even 24 hours...;D
Froch on 'Bitter' Calzaghe: My Stats Smash His To Bits! - Boxing News
Great fighter but he he never was able to become the man of the division was close but could not do it. He is below Lewis and Calzaghe and then he might have something to say after that. Wish him the best and hope he stays retired and does not try a comeback at his age would be dumb.
This is why people dislike him. If he thinks this he's deluded. Calzaghe was the best Super-Middle in the world. He beat a prime Kessler well and took his 0. He was undefeated and he won every single version of the Super-Middleweight Title. He then went up to Light-Heavyweight and beat the lineal champion. Carl did not do any of that so don't pretend your stats smash Calzaghe's Carl, because no matter how many times you bitch about it on Sky he was a better fighter than you, and he would have schooled you had you fought.
Froch has always talked a lot of shit. I don't think he genuinely believes he has a better record than Calzaghe or that he could have beaten him.
Froch achieved a lot more than someone with his very limited skill set should have done. He was tough and relentless and has a couple of decent wins on his record, but he is never going to be seen as an all time great or a particularly good boxer even. Above all, I think he will be remembered for his toughness, granite chin and old school warrior approach. He did pretty well without being spectacular or particularly memorable. He's the kind of fighter people respect rather than rave about.
Thank you Carl Froch. Very few fighters can match his heart and will. I was calling for him to retire last year. dude, Take the money and your hot girlfriend and have some fun. I hope he doesn't have return to boxing because his girl blew all his money.
Frank Warren:
Ultimately Joe beat everyone who was put in front of him. He fought every one of his mandatories and won. As for Froch, at no time in his career has he been the number one super-middleweight.Why didn't Froch and Calzaghe ever fight? It didn't take place because he sat down with me in the Westbury Hotel twice and I offered him big money to fight Joe both times, but he didn't want to know.
All he kept asking was, 'when is Joe moving up to light heavyweight?' That's a fact. Carl came down with his financial advisors and we had two meetings. He said he was out of contract with his promoter Mick Hennessy, but that's as far as it got. I know I offered him much more than he was earning at the time, but he wouldn't take it.
Joe Calzaghe vs Carl Froch: Who would have won mythical fight between the pair? | Daily Mail Online
Froch did not fight anyone to let him get a shot at Calzghe when he was still active that is all on Froch for getting a late start. I mean a old Calzaghe took Kesslers 0 no problem will a past Kessler took Frochs undefeated record. The skill gap is pretty much in Calzaghe favor not really that close.
So he would not fight DeGale, which isn't bad all to itself. And he will not fight Ward the second time, which really he should have done.
This seems like a quit and cowardly act than anything else.
He had his hopes pinned on Chavez Jr., and the lustre from that just all about tanked.
It goes to show Froch I will fight anyone, was on two occasions offered a fight with Calzaghe
but turned it down, I hope this puts a stop to Carl's BS he is a tough SOB but he does himself
no favors he's a good fighter but he makes himself look a fool at times.
Phroch will be back
You know how well off is Froch is he to the point were a come back would just sound dumb. Fighters come out of retirement all the time it is what they do but Froch style of fighting is not getting better with age so he better figure it out and not come back to fucking old.
