Mayweathers september opponent
So I seen floyd started his training camp yesterday and his opponent is probably still around two weeks away from getting announced. So that leaves whoever he pickes around 6 weeks for a training camp. Smart move by floyd kind of fucks the other guy up a little don't you think ?

No. Any potential opponent will know or hope they are a potential opponent and would already be training just in case anyway.

Re: Mayweathers september opponent
Teddy said on sports radio(Going the Distance) that its going to be Berto for free on CBS and that its a lock. Like The Hop/Kaz talk though, I'll wait for conformation.
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
The fight is gonna be a on free TV so I'm not expecting anything amazing.
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
Rumours are pointing towards Berto on CBS
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
On "free" tv it doesn't matter if he fights his ex girlfriend and he knows it. This will be a massive event and have a feeling the ghost of Berto will be the canvas brought in to be painted on.

So Berto will be the answer to that trivia question.
I want to know who's going to be number 50?
-
I'm ok with Mayweather vs. Berto on CBS but def not ppv.
It'll be about like Oscar vs. Forbes.
Haymon n the gang will probably be able to convince some casual fans that Berto is a real threat.
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
I have never paid for a ppv in my life so don't care if it's free, it's still Andre Berto.

Yea I get the feeling it's going to be berto seen a interview last night on YouTube it was a few years old and floyd was saying that he really wanted to beat berto up. I got the feeling floyd didn't like him.

Re: Mayweathers september opponent
never seen Berto fight
is this another Floyd 120-108 x 3 fight ??

Yes. Berto is shot and at his best wasn't any better than Zag Judah.
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
Should be Brook! Thurman! Or Porter!
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
Floyd has earned the right to fight whoever the hell he wants after fighting and beating Pacquiao.
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
Its berto.
Whether its his last fight or not I would have preffered a better opponent.
Khan will now fight another weak puncher in december and wait for floyds 50th fight in May.

Spot on hulkster. There is a lot of playing on that Reality tv motif in this thing. I really think Floyd is doing this for Al and to capture the tv audience as you point out.
I also think its a tricky fight. I again don't think it matters how Berto did in the past. He is a gifted fighter by way of born with speed and power. People get into a different mind set for Floyd. A mind set that seems to be lacking against others.. Maidana is a great example. I thought it would be a complete tar and feathering by Floyd.
I've always looked at Andre as Mosley 1.5 while attempting to be Shane reborn. Having said that, I think he's a fresher version then the Shane Floyd fought.

This is starting to get a little Tyson/Douglas feel

Feelings are indeed mutual from Bertos side. Some odd history between them with the phone calls and stuff. I think Berto juices so I think Floyds random demands cut his chances lol

Re: Mayweathers september opponent
Khan said on twitter he's heard its Mayweather vs. Berto. Khan & Berto have same trainer so looks like its probably true.
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
A joke fight. I can rmember thinking after Berto's last fight that he looked like roadkill for any world level welter. I think it'll be like Floyd-Gatti. Floyd will go for a KO in front of a huge audience to set up another Manny moneyfest either next May or September.

Personally I think Bradley deserves it more than any of those guys. He's a proven fighter and we know he will come to fight and throws caution to the wind.

Re: Mayweathers september opponent
How come Floyd is not fighting ppv when he has a contract with Showtime?
Berto is an embarrassing choice as he is shot to peaces and was regarded as Thurman is now.
Khan will be pissed now but he will have to fight someone good like Brooks or Bradley or Thurman now.
-
Mayweather vs. Berto in September?
Admittedly not the most reliable source, but where there's smoke there's (sometimes) fire.
Assuming this goes off, it should be an easy $30 mil at the very least, and while Berto didn't exactly live up to expectations, he's still a pretty quality fighter.

Back of the net.
Completely agree..the fact that bradley has been overlooked is pathetic.
As much as I want floyd to fight khan I still feel that khan should be ignored so he is forced to fight a brook or garcia 2

I think everyone thinks Bradley is the best choice, but he's with Arum and since Top Rank is suing Al Haymon, I think we all know that politics get in the way of that fight happening.
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
Yeah I didn't even consider Bradley. Arum and Haymon came together for Floyd/Pac to make mega millions, but I doubt they'd do business for Bradley.
-
I like bradley.
He even called out GGG.
Won't see ggg doing that with ward.
Floyd can do what he wants at this stage but at least end with a bang.

Might get his first KO in 100 years.

Re: Mayweathers september opponent
Just to be clear... So everyone pays 100 bucks to watch him talk copious amounts of crap leading up to a customized (all his demands met) fight with Pacquiao so he could throw punches from his bike; But now he'll fight like the version of mayweather that fought maidana, cotto, alvarez again so we can watch him wipe his @$$ with Berto for free?
Perfecting the art of Bait and switch... Maybe we'll get lucky and there will be a fight on the undercard.

I will still pay.
Perhaps we can get pac on the undercard against Algeri 2.
Once he is gone, he will be missed.
-
Re: Mayweathers september opponent
Joke of a fight. If it's on Showtime I will likely TIVO it. No way would I pay any money to see that farce. Floyd has had a great career and I'm not holding it against him to fight a weak opponent on the way out, but NO WAY in hell would I make an idiot of myself and pay for THAT. For the guys saying they will gladly pay to watch that farce, u must make some pretty damn good money to be happy to waste it. Or u r related to Floyd, one or the other.

Re: Mayweathers september opponent
If its Berto we know what to expect. It’s a poor choice but is he really that much worse than guys like Guerro and Maidana. Alvarez was abit green and Pac was on the way down and injured so you can pick holes in any opponent if you go down that road. Ortriz was pretty bad too and Bertos another that isn’t given much hope of actually winning.
Stylewise Khan would have been a stiffer test IMO but at the same time with two KO defeats and appoints loss theres not much between him and Berto. Andre has struggled with Collazo, Ortiz and Guerro and never fulfilled his potential when he was being billed as a new mayweather.
On the positive side he has a decent punch and good speed when he is on form but its very difficult to make a case for him being competitive in this one. He took a mauling from Guerro but made it to the final bell despite those injuries so Its hard to make a case for Floyd stopping him. 12 rounds written all over it. Floyd UD

Re: Mayweathers september opponent
a lot ofeople being a bit harsh on berto, I would prefer to see floyd fight some one better but berto is still a decent fighter. He's Not as bad as rios or Algeri and it was fine for pacman to face them.

First off, NEITHER was "ok" for PPV, but they were "ok" as opponents because Manny was coming back after a ko loss with Rios and #3 P4P Bradley when he fought Algieri. I didn't waste my money on either of those fights, and was glad I didn't. I don't blame Floyd for taking on Berto (shot at this point and not nearly consistent enough to pose ANY threat, but still a fighter who I'm ok with him fighting), but u have to be a moron or Floyd hugger to pay ur hard earned money to see that garbage.

Re: Mayweathers september opponent
I'm a Floyd fan but Berto is a shit fight, given the fact that he (supposedly) only has 1 or 2 fights left.
Porter would have been much more interesting (avenging his "little brother"), or of course Keith Fuckin Thurman!
Even a guy like Danny Garcia moving up would be sweet.
Andre Berto is lose/lose for Floyd. He dominates and Berto wasn't shit. He has a hard time and he sucks because Berto wasn't shit.

I think at this stage everything is lose/lose for Floyd because people will shit on whoever he fights and the excuses will start once the fight is over.
Hell, even fighting pac ended up being lose/lose.
His whole career was lose/lose as he hasn't gotten credit for a single win yet.
There will always be an excuse.
But back to the thread Berto isn't the worst choice but there are better choices out there.
Like I said before Bradley is the most deserving but the politics wont allow for that.

Berto is a Floyd clone mate.
Shoulder roll style, bigger, just less skillful, less speed, less defences, less everything.

Floyd already avenged one Broner loss and got much more then he bargained for.
I'd say he's done sticking up for the lil cunt.
