Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Paul is a good boxer. He has some speed but he's lacking in the power department. If he gets caught with anything big he will probably go down but it is not out of the question for him to outbox cotto.Cotto is so overratted. I've never seen a so called CHAMPION fight so many second-tier opponents and actually get praise for it. People like to say hes a warrior because of the Torres fight but no one likes to mention that he shouldn't have been in that kind of trouble with that kind of fighter in the first place. Cotto is a lost waiting to happen but it probably won't come at the hands of Paul.I don't think he has enough power.

Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
I'm really fond of Paulie in the ring. He's got some skills & the kid is fast...but Cotto will have to catch him at one point or the other. Neither one of these have faced anything like the other...but I expect Paulie to come up short. Cotto catches him & it's all over. A few body shots will slow Paulie down & without the speed & no power...he's fwocked.

Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Paulie has a good jab, pretty good handspeed, and his pretty slick.
There is a possibility that he could outbox Cotto for 12 rounds, but if Cotto catches him with a good body shot or on the chin, I don't know what would happen because Paulie has never been tested before. Paulie has fought bascially shitty opponents and his last opposition was no different.
Etheir Paulie will upset Cotto by outboxing him for 12 rounds or Cotto knocks him out and Paulie goes back to playing Gatti on the reality show.
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Paulie's not winning this fight. I think he has the talent to outbox Cotto, but if he gets caught with a good clean shot to the chin or body, he's gonna be hurt. And if Paulie actually goes 12 rounds, do you think those judges are actually gonna give Paulie a decision over Cotto? Paulie's gotta be what he is, a slick boxer, and really work that New York crowd and impress those judges because there's no chance of him KOing Cotto.
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
I think Paulie's gotta a real good chance, I don't like Paulie, but with his style, quick hands and quick feet, I think he has a real good chance. I'm gonna check the odds, if they're good I'll bet on Paulie. Doesn't mean I for sure think he'll win but its very winnable for him IMO
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
It seems like alot of posters are selling Cotto short. This fight will not go 12 rounds...no way. Cotto WILL eventually catch Pauli and it will be lights out. I think this is a huge mismatch and Cotto will gain no respect in KO'ing one of the long lost Gatti boys.
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Mailignaggi is decent and like someone said, neither guy has faced someone with the style of the other and it will be interesting to see how Cotto handles a boxer/mover but I mean Miguel, from his career so far, can do practically anything(front foot, back foot, really aggressive etc) and he has enought lateral movement of his own to catch Malignaggi and punish him. I expect a late tko from Miguel.

Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
I think if Malignaggi can last past round 7 he should do well, it will be a close fight, I can see Malignaggi landing more punches but Cotto landing the harder punches so this will be a thing for judges. is the guy landing more punches get the round or the guy landing the more harder punches?

possible Taylor-Chavez repeat?

Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
cotto has the perfect style for paulie. paulie likes to beat his oppenents off of their guards which is why cotto is made for him. he always keeps his hands high and walk straight in. paulie will have a ball with fightes like that. if u fight him with ure hands down then hes gunna have a hard time hitting u because he wouldnt know what do.

Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
i just hope cotto manages to land at least one headshot while magalini is falling from the first body shot of the fight...
or else magalini may retire without ever getting hit in the head :D :D :D
COTTO IS MY MAIN MAN :D

:-X Malinaggi is a lil punk, thinks he's PBF. He ain't. He is fast, but gots zero power and has fought nothin but one dimensional brawlers. Cotto gonna knock his butt out Wacko.

yea i'm talkin like 10$ lol ...so i guess i'm already prepared to lose ....but history has shown us if anything that when the underdog is a very fast& slick, Very undefeated jabber/counter puncher ...odds arent always as bad as they seem ...from Liston-Clay to Morales & Zair Raheem its part of the ebb & flow of boxing
...anyway we'll see though but if Malinaggi is much of an underdog i wouldnt bet the horses on cotto if i were you ;D

Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
This is the bottom line:
How are Paul's hands going to hold up? He has had surgery 3 times on his hands. He is saying that after this last surgery, which was before his last fight, that his hands feel great and did not bother him in his last fight.
Ok, do we believe him? I would like confirmation on how his hands were after his last fight. Because, if they bothered him again, he is taking this fight for the money. He knows his career is going to be short, and why risk losing in a small money fight if he breaks his hand again.
The bottom line: Find out how his hands held up in his last fight, and then go from there. He is plus 350 in the betting line. I live in Vegas, and bet the fights, and this is one that has tremendous value. There are only 2 fights a year where you can get real value on the dog. This year it was Calzahge, and last year it was Winky Wright when he fought Trinidad. This is the 2nd fight this year that has value.

Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Paulie can win this. He just has to turn him all night, Cotto's heavily on his front foot when he's coming forward so Paulie could turn him easily with his quick feet but he can't get lazy and stand in front. Beat him to the punch, turn him, repeat. He's gotta be smart
I'm gonna go ahead and pick him, of course my last upset pick turned out horribly horribly wrong

Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
I think you are forgetting one thing. What if Cotto finally catches Paulie. And Paulie takes it well?

Possibly could happen but I can't count on that in making a pick cause I've never seen Paulie get hit by a guy with Cotto's power, its an unknown
And looks can clearly be deceiving but he looks a bit fragile, just his build. Either way a war of attrition is no way to go for him, he might need to take a clean punch or two to win a decision but he doesn't need to be taking too many shots
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Classic boxer v puncher bout. Can Paulie stay away and land his own shots for a full 12 while taking the occasional power shot from Cotto? Does Cotto have the stamina to chase Paulie all night if he has to? I really like bouts like this that you can easily make an argument for either fighter. I think Paulie looks good the first half of the fight, but Cotto starts to wear him down the second half and gets the (T)KO late.

Yea but other people who look like a brick house wilt from the first tap of their chin. Example Louis Azille.

Malinaggi is crap and will be killed by Cotto. And I will partay!

Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Chances? Good, Very Good.
It's about time some of you guys are starting to wake up. ;D ;D ;D
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Faglignaggi sucks. He has no chance against Cotto. He dosn't have the power to hurt Cotto, so Cotto will walk right in with no worries. Cotto body attack is really going to punish him. Two things happen. Either Paulie gets knocked out cold by the 5th round. Or he will quit in his corner. The boy is garbage. Simple as that.
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Just because he doesn't have punching power he's garbage? Hurting Cotto isn't the first priority here, his priority is to outbox Cotto which he is very capable of doing. And he can't punch? Why hasn't anyone been able to walk through to him yet? If he hits so small, then wouldn't all of his opponents be walking through it?
-

Nobody has walked through him because he hasn't fought anybody. There is nothing but C and D level fighters on his record. Cotto is going to embarrass him.
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
His punched really do look to have nothing on them I don't think that he's even got enough to buzz Cotto. No-one's walked through him because he doesn't stand still. He looks really active and thrown on the move. His feet are never set to punch. he looks small in the ring too and Cotto is a big 140. If his legs and chin hold up maybe he can box and run for a decision but Cotto will be the house fighter won't he?
I suppose if your a non-punching boxer you've got to do something different to promote yourself, hence the silly trunks/hair and self promotion so I shouldn't really hold it against him
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
Well look at what Cory Spinks did. I don't think it gets any worse then chicken heading to the ring and then getting knocked out
-
Re: Paul Malignaggi.....how good is he and what are his chances against Cotto?
From the few fights I have seen of Paulie,he looks ok,very sloppy sometimes and his balance can be poor. I do think his lack of pwer will be an issue because when he is flicking whatever he is,Cotto will feel he has no power and counter/take more risks/walk through him. Also,Malignaggi is not good enough to evade Cotto's shots,he has fast hands, and if Cotto works the body early,he can finish Malignaggi off. The only way Paulie is going to win is if he SERIOUSLY stinks out the joint.
