Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
OK... Now you know this is my boy and I've been talking him up for a long time. There have been a lot of doubters out there. Hasn't faced anyone good, not really that powerful, big holes in defense, gets winded in the late rounds, never really been tested...
Now that he did what NOBODY has ever done in 44 fights against Howard Eastman, including Hopkins, Joppy, and AA, what is the future for Miranda? He is very young and still improving with every fight.
I really don't see him having trouble with any of the top guys out there. He has proven he can take a hard punch and recover quick. His power is tremendous. The only thing I see that still needs work is his Defense. Much improved, but still I see some holes. I think with another camp or two with Jose Bonilla he will be unstoppable.

Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
Plain & simple...good fighter, good power, needs to work on his defense.
Other than that...he's a good prospect. Still think that there are some unanswered questions...even after last night's fight. He got clocked a few times & didn't really work that out...but he did close the book on Eastman in the end...so what else can you say.
He's good...but that didn't sky rocket him into the stratosphere. Now...if he KO's Abraham then he's got my vote.
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
Miranda's conditioning and power are outstanding but his balance and footwork need improvement. Also, the accuracy of his punches was not that impressive against Eastman, especially in the 1st few rounds. His overall speed is good, and although his footwork is not exactly graceful, he moves well enough to get the job done. My sense is that he's an excellent fighter who will probably win a belt soon, but that he's not going to become an all-time great. He does not look like a great athlete when I compare him to other great middleweights of the past, such as Hagler, Hopkins, Sugar Ray Robinson and Carlos Monzon. If he does become a great fighter, heart will have a lot to do with it. Maybe he will have a career something like that of Kid Gavilan? I really don't know but that wouldn't be too bad! ;)

Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
Wacko! Man you are a tough sell!
Eastman has never seen the canvas from the likes of AA, Joppy, and Hopkins. Miranda was winning the fight, almost KO'd him in round 3 (if it wasn't for the low blow stoppage I think Eastman was done), and finished business in round 7.
Miranda did take a few hits (but don't most fighters in tough matchups?). I agree his defense needs some work, but how can you still call him a prospect? He is a top contender now. I am fairly confident that if AA comes to America to fight (as he said he would like to do) Miranda will continue his 'new' KO streak.
Gotta love the Reyes gloves!

CC. I agree with ya Wacko. Immpresive performance that still left some questions unanswered. Defence seems to be his biggest weakness, and a guy like Abrahams would take advantage of that. About Howard Eastman... has almost everything you could want in a fighter but will to win and killer instinct. Hes like the Middleweight Dominick Guinn

;D Agreed...but I just calls em like I sees em babe. He's got about as many holes in his D as Jeff Lacy has.

He is a contender climbing to the top...& again...I was impressed...& I am happy for you...but he's a "wait & see'er" for Wacko.
:coolclick: your man done good.

is this all because before the fight you saw Eastman beating Miranda ???
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
Before the fight i picked Eastman, taking nothing away from Miranda he looks a great prospect, who has the power to anyone around 160, but does anyone think time has caught up with Eastman, i didn't think he reacted well to the shots he was taking and at 35 maybe it's time to call it a day, does anyone know if he is going to retire?
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
Good work from Miranda, got buzzed a few times but Eastman, despite what the commentators said CAN punch. Howards been on the slide for a little while and generally lets himself down when it matters most, but stopping him is an achievement. Well done Pantera.
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
I think Miranda needs to keep his left hand up and not lead with his hook. I think a trainer like Buddy McGirt could really bring out the boxer in him instead of him going on talent.

Nope. This is all because of the same thing that I told you regarding Jeff Lacy before Calzaghe beat him...holes in his defense.

Mcgirt pretty much ruined Gatti and do about the same to Miranda. He thinks he can make every slugger into a great boxer. He's a jackass. And Wacko, Eastman is better than anyone Taylor had ever faced leading up to his matchup with Hopkins, yet you had it a pick em fight just about. Yeah, I know Taylor is a better boxer, still, level of competition means a lot.
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
McGirt ruined Gatti? He saved him from taking unnessesary punishment with the style change and I don't think Gatti would have won his last fight without McGirt.
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
McGirt does great with Gatti. The only mistake he made with him was trying to outbox PBF. Other than that hes brought out the best in him
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
Miranda has a great trainer in Jose Bonilla. He has trained both Tito, Casamayor, and other greats. I think he did a great job with Miranda in their 10 week camp. I am sure he will be reviewing this fight closely and work hard on the few problems Miranda still holds. I think with a little better defense and more contol on his power shots he will be unstoppable.
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
Maybe the use of his jab a little more too and not holding his left so low when he's so close to someone
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
haha, all thistime i thought Panteras Name was from "Panteras italian Bread & pastrys"
yea Miranda looked good tho i hope to see more of him....i wanted to see him fight pavlik though

Lord have mercy! I never thought the day would come, but I actually gave Mr Means a :coolclick:!
What is up with Pavlik though? Last I heard he 'supposedly' hurt his hand as hasn't make any noise since. Not to bring it up, but does it have to do with the 'incident' he got himself into? Before this layoff he was pretty active.
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
I think he's just letting his hand heal, we'll probably hear from him within 4 or so months
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
But I want to see Pavlik on ESPN soon he's only been on Shobox once ??? Miranda should be on Shobox too.
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
I think Miranda just bought a date with HBO with the Eastman KO ;D
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
yea like starr said hes resting and he used to have alot of problems w/ his hand so it just needs alittle time but he came in kinda overtrained against Zuniga so i'm sure this is a good time off for him ...i havnt seen much of him honestly
CC back :) ur man did look good
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
i think he needs to work a bit more on his technical boxing, and his defense, he looked good for the most part, but he got hit too cleanly and was even rocked, i think in a couple more fights he might be ready for the rest of the big guys, right now i think he'd lose just as badly as Lacy did against Calzaghe
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
I was very impressed with Miranda he kept his poise and fought a smart fight he didn't rush into the fight and was very patient.
Miranda beats Pavlik 8)
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
I was somewhat impressed.. Very impressed with him offensively, but honestly, he could have just as easily lost that fight if Eastman had landed the right hand 30 seconds before.. He was badly hurt, completely saved by the bell.. I dunno how he would fair against most top guys.. Eastman's no big puncher so I think most top middles could rock him like that and with his defence that's a problem.
-

obviously i'm biased on this subject but Pavliks the better boxer ..as far as who looks more comfortable in the ring etc....and Pavlik is known for his slick defense ..his KO ratio makes him look like a slugger but hes really not anyway i dont think Miranda loooked a whole lot better than Zuniga ...both have hard punching styles ...anyway i cannot wait for these 2 to meet ;D

Eastman has 35 KO's in 40 wins. That's not a big puncher ??? And lets not forget, if Miranda had hit Eastman in that 5th round 30 seconds earlier, Eastman would have went too.
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
Miranda might still be a little green, but overall he looked good. Congrats on the win, and yes he deserves a date with HBO or Showtime. Well, at least an undercard.
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
I just realized something rather interesting...
6 out of the last 7 guys Miranda has faced have never boxed again (this includes Eastman). Getting hurt real bad by that power would make you think twice about getting back into the ring.
Rumor has it that Eastman went to the hospital after the fight. If he was smart he would have stopped by the unemployment office as well!
-
Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
ok buddy don't get carried away, Eastman had him hurt and a few times at that, plus the fight just happened Friday, give him a break, as for the hospital every fighter has to go to the hospital after the fight it's routine check up to make sure they're completely ok, Trinidad beat his opponants way worse than what Miranda did, and I'm pretty sure he would have KO'd Eastman as well, probably in a more brutal fashion than it happened on Friday, as a matter of fact, if Trinidad and Miranda were to fight i think Tito would blow him away completely

To be honest mate you are getting very annoying!!
We gather your a big fan, but your going on about Miranda as if he has just beat one of the top guys in World Boxing, relax sit back and have another look at who he has beat, a 35 year old man who has never won a fight outside his own backyard, who had lost his previous fight which 8 months ago. I predictid Eastman on the sheer fact experience and who he had shared a ring with.
Eastman was a decent challenge and Miranda took his oppurtunity very well, but you are going way over the top, Eastman was just about top 10 in the 160 divison.
Also are you going to talk about anything else on this forum apart from your boy " Miranda??"

Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
exactly quit running your mouth boy
like he did something great
he beat a man just like many others have beat opponents
that doesnt make him a big name
well see when he gets his ass handed to him
by a real great fighter
if you stilll gonna ride his dick like an obsessive bitch

Easy now...not necessary.

As stated by ElTerribleMorales...yes...every fighter that get's knocked out goes to the hospital after a fight babe.
As harsh as it sounds though...I do agree with you...it might be time for Eastman to think about something else outside of boxing. Two young up & coming fighters have pretty much humiliated Howard...no matter what faces he makes after the decisions or him getting stopped.
I like Eastman & I recognize his skills...I always have...but it might be time to ride off into the sunset.

Now...my thing about Edison Miranda is this...Tito had a pretty extensive background with boxing. Olympics/ams & what not...Miranda did not. He's just coming up & he's doing it damned well. I'll be honest...I'm fairly impressed with what he did against Eastman...but he's still got a lot of work to do. Power only carries you for so long...as Trinidad found out later in the game.
Tito's defense was just as holey as Miranda's is. That's going to be a problem...especially if Miranda matches wits with a thinking boxer that's got a good defense. Eastman was skilled but he fought the wrong fight IWO & he fought it against the younger stronger man.

Fair is fair...Eastman was a huge step up. Let's not disrespect the win by making excuses for Eastman now. Backyard or not...he got his ass handed to him in brutal fashion.
Also...Eastman has always done enough to be top 10 material. I wanna see how Miranda does with someone that's as young & hungry as he is. Toss him in with Abraham...that'll be a damned explosive fight.

Re: Pantera Miranda... What you think now?
Agreed Wacko, it was a good win for Miranda but he was favourite to win this fight.
My point was that Pantera has created probably 9/10 threads regarding this fight, which i dont think it merit's, it was an IBF eliminator not a unification or even a World Title fight. Also he repeats himself and states the same messages over and over and it's now becoming very boring.
Like i said all credit to him and his boy, but lets put it into context he beat a good pro campainer who yes has never been stopped but who also has failed at World Level more than once.

True...but in such a fashion? Knocking out Eastman? I would have never expected it...

I agree...it is...bothersome...but everyone pretty much does it. Read the same shat over & over about Joe Calzaghe, Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather, & Margarito...everyone is up in air over their favorites...it's common place but it does become a bore.
I myself am guilty of it...we all are.

Again...I just think that it's impressive how he beat Eastman. That will stick out in my mind...also the fact that it was Miranda's first attempt at a World Level status...
I see where you are coming from...don't think that I don't...it's just one of those things.
