Guess who's #1????

Sorry I couldn't watch it as I felt the vomit in the back of my throat when I noticed the guess who's number 1 comment
See now that serves as a great example of why Floyd is mocked at times as great a tactician as he is. He lists himself at number 1 which is not unusual but his reasoning for doing so is. He lists PPV and gate receipts as 1 and 2 and then sputters on about 5 weight classes. I understand it was a setup because how do you leave out the other Ray, Greb, Langford, Jofre etc off a TBE list? And taking Chavez at #3 let alone having the guy on the list made my hair stand on end.And he leaves the most deserving guy off the list who to my surprise was actually on it in Armstrong. Again I realize it was probably a setup even though he appeared to actually be thinking about it but he could have a least attempted the appearance of legitimacy.
Floyd, you awkward standing silly git. He lost me sighting fewest number of fights and PPV numbers as cred as an all time great ???
Shame on you SRR for not bettering the great FMJ in the PPV stakes. Floyd is profound.
I thought he made an interesting point - "I've had fewer fights than all of these but beat more champions" (although Leonard only had 40 fights). Sort of reverse numbers game where we tend to favour the more fights the better.
On another note - good to see that Floyd knows Duran would have beat the living shit out of him.
makes me cringe watching any vids of floyd talking, hes an awkward dribbling idiot who just sounds like a cunt
embarrassing
Yeah well if earlier eras had all the belts floating around that he does instead of 1 and later 2 I'm sure the gap would have closed. In addition fighters like Rigo and the Kazak would never be denied. Whats happening in the middleweight division would never happen. They have about 10 world titles in each division and yet its a closed system.
It was very telling that he left Hank off his list and never included Robinson on the pick and play. Robinson beat 18 world champions and 11 Hall of Famers and the only reason Floyd did anything with less fights is because he retired for about 5 years all tolled during his career thus far. And at times out of convenience. One of the lap dogs on the show should have also reminded him that fighters fought more cause they had to.
But again the whole thing was choreographed and designed to create more Floyd threads on boxing forums because as we both know there are simply not enough.
There was nothing telling about Floyd's picks. He was on a Latino show.
From his perspective he is TBE because he's beat more "champions" in less fights. I do not think he's TBE, or anywhere close, but in this modern age there's no reason a fighter would think winning titles is less of an achievement than in the past.
Floyd maybe could have been 130-1 in the past.
Robinson maybe could be 48-0 in the present.
Its who was off the list to begin with that was telling ffs. The rest was a dog and pony show.
Is it fair to say Floyd should stick to boxing and leave the rankings to the people that know about rankings?
I agree with Floyd that he is likely the #1 of all time, but I think the rest of his list was shit, yeah.
I didn't even agree with his reasoning for why he was the #1, even though I think he is the #1.
Beaten more world champs than anyone... that's because there are about 10 "champs" in each division now a days. :D
Floyd is a genius in the ring but borderline retarded outside of it I think.
Floyd needs no choreographer in the ring but he needs Bob Fosse outside it. He actually belittled himself by his choices for the list who he picked off said list and who he left off it. He feeds the hysteria even if he wasn't serious.
Thee end.
Floyd also left Ray Robinson off the list as a deliberate slight. Its an attempt to distance himself from the fighter people have him in constant competition with for the best ever title. A tad petty, but look who we're talking about here. He based his number #1 selection is based off of earnings and beating more champions. Like I said before, some of the accolades hes boasting about are him being a beneficiary of the time hes fighting in.
I don't TBE lists are appropriate anymore. Its really all about era's. Fight game has changed so much its near impossible to compare guys who fought 100+ fights a fight every 2 weeks, against guys who fight was less frequent and maybe get 50 fights. Add in 15+ round fighters. Also that pool of fighters was good but he only had 10 to choose from....and guess what he picked mostly the more recent options. My top five out of those would be:
1: SRR
2: Mohammed Ali
3: Mayweather
4: Armstrong
5: Duran/JCC
List leaves out guys like Monzon, Sanchez, Langford, Hopkins, Hagler...any of those could easily be 3-5.
Floyd never struck me as a ring historian anyway or someone who watched long hours of footage of ATGs during his rise. I take his list with a grain of salt....
Duran would annihilate a NON PUNCHER like Floyd.
Unless I've missed it, I'm really surprised there's virtually no mention anywhere of Sugar Ray Leonard, yet lots of Duran.
Adrian Broner is poised to and most likely will be calling himself a "FOUR" division champion by years end. Does anyone in there right mind think he remotely compares to a Jones Jr, Hearns or Whitaker as far as ring/ big fight accomplishment ??? We live in the era of everybody gets a star championships and trinkets. The things should come falling out of gum ball machines now.
However pathetic we think the titles are today the actual fighters don't think the same.
Have you ever seen a fighter that has won a belt say I don't want that rubbish, i'm not a real champ. There are currently dozens of "world" champions - who clearly weren't the best in their division - dining out on the fact they won a silly belt. The record books will forever list them as a champion.
The more Floyd talks the better because he just digs a bigger hole for himself.
