Gatlin should have been banned for life. To be caught drug cheating twice shows a lack of remorse and indicates the man will not be rehabilitated.
Does anyone actually think he is clean now?
Gatling is hitting record times at the age 33 and it must be more than just running technique that is doing it.
I actually think track and field athletes should be allowed to dope, let's just see who can possibly run the fastest, jump the highest, with the benefit of the freakiest steroids out there, who cares. The way dopers are treated in mainstream and olympic events compared to boxing is a head trip really, when you consider the nature of it.
In boxing when you get caught doping, you get a slap on the wrist, and the fans/authorities/promoters/TV companies don't give a shit. Roy, Mosley, Toney, etc, are fan favourites that will go into the HOF.
In Athletics dopers are treated like paedophiles.
Yes but at least they make them out to be "evil." In boxing you just pretend it never happened
I'd draw the line in any contact sport, where you have the potential to hurt a guy badly affecting his livelihood, so of course not boxing. As Fenster said, there are HOFers everyone knows juiced, and nobody cares, even though it clearly could have far worse consequences in a combat sport than most any other. I understand that it's not fair to legalize it in other athletics either, I'm just not much of a sports fan and couldn't personally care less as long as guys aren't getting physically harmed for it. Athletes shouldn't be role models for anyone in the first place imo.
Good won and the evil dark side lost!
Bolt the man.
That is what makes you a legend.
After nearly tripping up in the semi-final the Funker showed the best turn of foot since Sea The Stars in the 2009 Arc (horse racing) then made Gatlin bottle it in the final. Respect.
Ali v Foreman all over again.
He won by .01 of a second! I'd hardly call that bottling it from Gatlin;D Glad to see Bolt won though, guy seems class. Was he a big underdog to pull this off @Fenster?
Gatlin lost his form in the final 10 yards because he could see Bolt was alongside him, started rocking and rolling all over the shop then dipped to soon.
The great Michael Johnson will back me up. :D
Gatlin was the favourite going into the final. After seeing the heats he looked a cert.
The prick will not talk to us.
“Justin, as well as I, feel that the British media and journalists have been extremely unkind to him. There’s been nothing positive said about him now for some time. Every characterisation is solely about doping and vilifying him,” his agent Renaldo Nehemiah told the Guardian.
He feels unfairly singled out given there were three other competitors in the final who had also served doping bans (the Americans Tyson Gay and Mike Rodgers, along with Bolt’s Jamaican team-mate Asafa Powell).

So glad Bolt won this, however I agree that Gatlin shouldn't be the only one vilified when 3 other runners in the final had positive test previously.
But Gatlin has managed to fail drugs tests TWICE as many times as those others?
There is going to be a rematch in the 200 meters.
its ironic.
bolt was the beloved massive underdog in the 100 metres, past his best, out of form, coming back from injury, facing a dominant monster (who ALLEGEDLY may still be benefitting from doping) and who is deeply unpopular.
I think Bolt won't by out psyching Gatlin. He lost his form and technique and tried to blast his was to the finish line but badly tied up at the end
Sound familiar?
Bolts best event is the 200 metres. but Gatlin is still the form runner, and he won't make the same mistake again IMO. I hope Bolt wins, but I can see another upset here
I wonder what would have happened if Ali had a rematch with Foreman? ;D
I totally got caught up in the Good V Evil pantomime. I didn't think Bolt was going to get the job done after he fell down the track in the semi. What a turn around though. Gatlin's arsehole fell out once he saw the imposing figure of Bolt looming down on him. The 200 gives Bolt even more of a chance to get on Gatlins shoulder, I wouldn't be surprised to see Gatlin fall apart again, he's like the reverse of Sea Biscuit.
Gatlin looked the bollocks in the semi easing down to 19.87, then Bolt ran 19.96 but clearly stopped running with 50 yards to go.
2/5 Bolt
7/4 Gatlin
Gatlin's getting chinned again.
I'm afraid that Gatlin will get this.
Bolt had the quickest reaction time out of the block in the 100m and was fortunate that Gatlin flopped at the end.
Gatlin genuinely appears to have the better speed of the two. Speed endurance is a factor too but I feel Gatlin will benefit from the bigger margin of error and Bolts sub par form (by his standards).
On a happier note, I've seen the 100m final on YouTube in about 4 different languages and it's clear just how relieved they are that Bolt won.
How long do you think it'll take before someone is faster than Bolt? I mean, able to break Bolt's records.
Bolt wins again!
