Dear England,
You had your chance at running this nation, you did a piss poor job, we whipped your asses twice so we wouldn't have to deal with your bullshit bellyaching.

Sorry if I ruffled any feathers, but a rule in general is that Americans don't typically take kindly to Brits telling us what we should and shouldn't do....we aren't Canada.
The gunman was a black man that used to work for the same tv station as a reporter. The camera man went to Human Resources to report the guy for some incident after 1 day of working with him (so the shooter said in his Twitter account) and the reporter also had a hostile relationship with the shooter. The station manager described the shooter as someone who was always looking to be offended.

It is in Americas history, culture, tradition, constitution, psyche, nature to have a gun we have to accept that just as it is not for us.
-
I dont do "ruffle" Lyle just to be clear on that :
If an alien came and asked me what a stereotypical pompus American tit looked like id send him your way for sure :)
Facts constantly hit you in the face but your too blinkered to see the bigger picture which is why I called you a fool..... naive fool actually :)

So at least theres some kind of pathetic reason for this reporter to do this insane act.
What was the reason behind the maniac killing all those peope in the church.?!
There is no justification for both of these evil crimes, but guess what, that four letter word brings them both together.
Guns.
Its written in your constitution..theres no stopping this obsession with the metal.

Your point being? If the other guy has a gun does my NOT having a gun help me at all? It'll certainly help the other guy.

Because you didn't have one......UNLESS you believe that banning guns will not only remove any and all firearms but also make people nicer and friendlier and less likely to oooooh I don't know attack another person who may not have the physical strength or ability to defend themselves. Or you believe the government via the police will "protect" citizens....well I can inform you that a large portion of people don't buy that shit for 1 single second!
Maybe you'll figure out sooner or later that there are guns, there will be guns, and there's no getting rid of them. I mean....you can certainly try but even in England there's still shootings, even in France there's still shootings and the best part is....you're sitting ducks!
The Police, the very people sworn to protect the citizens ran away from the Charlie Hebdo shooters!!!!
You want ME to put my faith in THOSE bastards???? No thanks

Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
I just don't see the legality being the issue, this is such a tired argument on here lol. Many of the worst areas/cities in America for gun violence have some of the most stringent laws, in places like New York, Detroit, Chicago, the process of getting a legal firearm is probably not unlike it is in the UK, here in Canada, or most anywhere else. If you want to suggest measures to stop the millions of illegal weapons being smuggled in and trafficked in the US then by all means, but at least acknowledge that's the bigger problem.
-
Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
Apparently the shooter was also gay and was I guess upset at perceived slights due to that as well.
AND this shooting (so he said in his "manifesto") was not just revenge for slights against him but a retaliation for what that jackass did in South Carolina.
....guess we'll have to ban the #blacklivesmatter movement now what with this tragedy and all
-
Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
Bit harsh to call the Charlie Hebdo coppers cowards. Whether or not they were armed it wouldn't have prevented the attack. Which is proven by the USA.
On average 300 people every day are shot in the States. The fact your coppers have guns is not a deterrent.

1. Didn't call them cowards, they didn't have guns!
2. Where are they shot? Are they shot in places where people own more legal guns or are these shootings happening in Chicago, Detroit, New York, where the gun laws are very strict?
-
Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
If those "bastards that ran away" had guns would it have prevented a terrorist attack?
-
Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
No, but if the cartoonists did it might not have been quite as bad. Fact! :p

Depends on how close they were to the scene. Could have saved 1 cop's life though. He was unarmed and executed in the street
-
Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
Statistically, you are much less likely to die of terrorism if you have a big gun collection and never leave your house.
-
Certain states in America having strict gun laws means fuck all when other states have very relaxed gun laws, they are all over your country and are easily moved around and have been for years so the having strict laws is a joke, the damage/problem is already cemented into your culture.
Nowhere in the UK is it ok to have a firearm like it is in some US states.
If say Scotland had similar relaxed gun laws like some of your states then we would have a massive problem like you have but they aren't and we don't.
Its gotta be an all out ban across the entire country to even begin to tackle the problem, that is the USA problem.
A 10 year old could suss that out to be honest :)

What a fickle world American small time TV news is.
One minute you're doing the early morning slot, the next you're on the graveyard shift.

If having strict gun laws is a joke, what is an outright ban going to do differently? It's an absolute fact that the majority of gun crimes are committed with illegal firearms, that means weapons that never pass through any kind of system or registry and are dealt just like drugs are, not to mention most often purchased by people that couldn't(or at least wouldn't) legally obtain a firearm in any state no matter how lax the laws are. If you ban them all for everyone, it overwhelmingly harms people that obtain them responsibly and are inherently much less likely to hurt anyone. It does absolutely zilch to stop all of the guns that are already in the wrong hands, and the millions entering the country and being purchased underground. Cocaine is completely illegal, do you think that does anything whatsoever to curb the use and trafficking of it? I agree with you that it's embedded in the culture and that stinks, but you are oversimplifying it immensely. If you know any sensible 10 year old's they might actually be able to help you with this.

Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
That's insanity today. Plotted murder and follow up meltdown campaign via social media. He sounds like he had as much want of it being seen, filming it, as he did actually carrying it out. The guy was a time bomb and wore a failed persona to a vengeful finale. In some cases I don't think a gun makes a bit of difference. You cannot legislate a nutters level of want.
-
Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
Do you honestly think if USA had no rights to arms , this fruitcake wouldn't have got a gun illegally like most criminals do ?

Ok your still not seeing the bigger picture here so let me give you some "Absolute Facts"
No one is disagreeing with you but where do you think the source of these "Illegal" guns starts....
It is absolute fact that the 3 main sources of illegal guns in the USA are as follows -
1) - Straw Purchases - a straw purchase occurs when someone who may not legally acquire a firearm or who wants to do so anonymously has a companion buy it on their behalf (legally)
2) - The second biggest source of illegal guns in the USA is where legally licensed but corrupt at home and commercial gun dealers sell the firearms to criminals (there are several reports to back this fact up and that illegal activity by those licensed to sell guns (legally) known as FFLs - Federal Firearms Licenses is a huge source of guns used in crimes
3) - Guns that are legally owned are stolen and used illegally for Criminal purposes
These are the hard facts and anyone who thinks that the problem doesn't stem/start from the fact that guns in the USA are widely Legal is deluded, naive, uneducated and stupid :)
Like i said these are facts and they are constantly hitting you in the face hard but you and people like Lyle just choose to ignore them and yes i do believe a 10 year old could suss out the source of the problem.
Evidence implies that many of the mentally ill who are determined to get firearms will wind up "jurisdiction shopping". After Virginia started reporting its mental health records to NICS, 378 of the 438 those denied guns because of a Virginia mental health record were trying to purchase a firearm in another state.
It's not fucking rocket science to see that the guns used illegally are obtained from legal sources.
I just gave you the hard facts (i even made the clues BOLD so dickheads like Lyle can figure it out easier ;D
Are you still going to disagree?
-
Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
I agree with the last post. Gun owners refuse to engage in any discussion of how legal guns become illegally obtained.
They obfuscate the issue by decrying gun laws from the most vague stand point.
Rand Paul said it best-he doesn't want the government to even know the serial number on his guns.
Why?
Badger guns in my homestate led the nation around 2008 in guns bought online that were used by criminals who obtained them illegally.
The argument has been framed: more gun laws vs the right to carry guns as a constitutional right.
Entertaining the idea of how legal guns become illegal is a discussion gun owners refuse to engage in.
Let alone raising my biggest gripe-while Americans should have the right to own guns...and as many as they choose: why should the same Americans have the right to sell them without a legal transfer of firearms?
How is that a constitutional right to sell your gun under the table, or to buy a gun for someone other than your self?
Last point gun owners have no desire to engage in another discussion: its not just the poor and criminal element in America doing heinous crimes with illegal guns. Every poor nation on earth that doesn't have access to water, technology, food...has access to guns and a seemingly endless supply of bullets.
With that, nut jobs like the guy who killed three innocent news reporters root for gun owners.
How else does people like him get guns?

Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
Some short facts on the matter-
America has a massive issue with people shooting each other, it happens too often
There are too many guns already in America to ban them
The people of America love their guns and don't want to give them up
It's a problem that will never be solved, probably because most Americans don't see it as a problem and they don't actually want to fix it.

How often is "too often"? I'd like for that to be quantified 1 shooting, 3 shootings, 85 shootings, 100,000 shootings....just curious.
Won't stop people from trying
True, but then again the overwhelming majority of legal gun owners DON'T murder people.
Fix it yes, but do pay attention "shall not be infringed" ....that was put in the Bill of Rights for a reason.
-

Re: America you seriously need to sort out your gun laws - Reporter shot dead on live
Don't have a problem with people going Clint Eastwood on bods trying to rob their homes but it's stretching it a bit to say the gun saved their life.
Most of that footage was of botched robberies. The robbers were "unlucky" to run into old biddies with a shooter. Which again goes to prove that guns don't prevent crime.
