yes, that was the main reason why he only fought in the US.....Quote:

Even then I think he'd still walk away with the win. :)
well this was the legitimate reason why he didn't go back overseas....unlike calzaghge & darius...
Disgraceful - no wonder boxing is in trouble and has been for years.
I thought Daruis was in the X Factor or Fame Academy or Pop Idol or something. Was he not the feminine one with the gay goatee? He used to work in Debenhams on Oxford Street years ago, and he was a c**t then as well apparantly.
One word for that fight=BULLSH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
THe worst part of this fight, was that it created the button pushing scoring, which is almost always horrible.
Actually something similar happened to Joe Calzaghe... some say it was even worse during his amateur career.Quote:

calzaghe was fighting for the gold during the olympics and beating the shat out of the guy and had it go to the other fighter? If not...I don't think there's anything worse than that as far as amateur boxing goes....or did you just make that up?Quote:

what happened? how did Calzaghe lose? and what were the stakes?
128 wins, 2 losses
He was screwed out of the Barcelona Olympics due to politics, the Welsh ABA refused to nominate him because they felt he was disrespectful to opponents the way he would drop his gloves and tap them on the head, and Ali shuffles etc.
1985-88 British Schoolboy Lightweight (132lbs) Champion
1989 Junior Multi Nations Welterweight (147lbs) in Denmark (represented Britain against Sweden, Norway and Denmark, beat Armand Krajnc and Ole Klemetson)
1989 Junior Multi Nations Welterweight (147lbs) in Italy (represented Italy against Germany, Ireland and Romania, beat Adrian Preda)
1990 Senior Welsh ABA Junior-Welterweight (139lbs) Finalist (robbed against Michael Smyth)
1990 Junior European Junior-Welterweight (139lbs) Championships in Czech Republic (robbed against Romanian Adrian Preda)
1991 Senior British ABA Welterweight (147lbs) Champion
1991 Italy vs USA Junior-Middleweight (156lbs) dual meet in Italy (beat Raul Marquez)
1992 Senior British ABA Junior-Middleweight (156lbs) Champion (beat Chris Sanigar's Bristol boys Dean Francis and Glenn Catley, stopped Francis in semi-final and stopped Catley in final)
1992 Italy vs USA Middleweight (165lbs) dual meet in Italy (beat Chris Byrd)
1993 Senior British ABA Middleweight (165lbs) Champion (beat Jason Matthews)
It was his loss in Eastern Europe apparently that was worse or as bad as Roy Jones Jr.'s decision granted this was written by Watt, but I think it was a similar fight personally.
It's pointless...the biggest stage for any amateur boxer is the olympics...period...IF CALZAGHE DIDN"T GET ROBBED DURING AN OLYMPIC FIGHT IT CAN't BE WORSE THAN WHAT HAPPEN TO RJJ!!!! there's no other venue that you can name that will top that.....and it was for the gold medal!!!!
In my opinion, the country of Korea disgraced themselves with their blatantly biased and corrupt judging in that Olympics. It wasn't just the Roy Jones fight. There were several others in which they did the same thing. I had some Korean friends in graduate school and even they were embarrassed.
Why do you have to bring Calzaghe into it??Quote:

who cares....that loss made him more popular than he would of been had he won the gold.
Abit like when Lewis and Evander fought the first time to a draw, so much fuss was made out of it....
People gave their sympathy's and apologies to Lewis making him that much bigger to the public ;D
Ever wonder why he was in the Leno show 8)
whats PBF excuse then?Quote:

So what? It would still make you not want to fight outside of the states regardless of popularity.Quote:

Chill out, and losing is losing IMO. Sure the Olympics is bad, but Calzaghe got very bad decisions against him which would make him less likely to want to fight over seas or even outside the UK, and also Calzaghe was robbed of going to the Olympics.Quote:

being robbed of such an honour must of been terribly hard to take. even though the people know he won, he still got a silver medal.
This is an old old topic but i just wanted to tell everyone the person Calzaghe lost to was Mike Smive "The Barry Bomber" from my home town Barry....Mike's dad apprently was the ref but Joe admits Mike was just alot stronger than him because he hadnt developed properly yet and he lost the first 2 rounds...it's in Joes book aswell.
Smive still runs around bragging about how he battered Joe :D
He had 9 losses. And he was set to go as a welter weight. but as the time came closer he was no longer able to make it, but the ABA would only alow him to go as a welter. His dad tried and tried to get him in at a higher weight, even willing for joe to fight anyone in an elimination but they would not alow it. The claim was because he had to pull out of numerous bouts aboard and at home due to hand injuries they believed that he only fought when he wanted to, and not for his country. The gerneral feeling at the time was that it was bullshit and a joke not ot let him go.Quote:
