I would love it if Jacobs wins, just love it.
Who can take the other's punches better? That's the question here. They both have questionable chins. I question whether Quillin can make 160 anymore. Is the fight at 160? I lean Jacobs.
Great match up and its been brewing for awhile. I really think Quillin is levels above Jacobs and will knock him out. The guy had the shoulders of Lt heavyweight and his left hook is on point last out.
I'd probably take Quillin. Jacobs might outbox him for good spots but I think he's the more likely guy to get hurt first and worse. Good match up for sure though, will be fun.
To play devil's advocate, he's also plodding, flat-footed, and has chin issues. I agree that he is huge for middleweight. He's working with Memo Heredia this time out, however, so who knows what he'll be taking to get him down in weight for the fight. I like Jacobs.
And as still, stiff and upright as a fence post. Jacobs should be able to just pepper the guy but he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer and he could easily let this one get away by trying to hard to be the king of New York. He might want to consider a Nike ad on the bottom of his shoes. I'm sure Danny has matured in the 5 years since Pirog but the moment could get to him.
I honestly don't see Quillin as all that plodding, if anything he's improved the backfoot and showed he can vary his attack. I think Jacobs can still be a bundle of nerves and over extends himself when closing in. He doesn't retreat well. Pirog didn't just catch him..he totally outboxed and outclassed him. If Quillin lands the clean left hook Sergio Mora suckered him into, I have a hard time seeing Jacobs recover. Jacobs is an outstanding guy with good hands but he leaves all of his windows open. Awesome fight either way.
Petey Quillen ftw. Jacobs has had a rough career and he's a good fighter but Pete can take his power I doubt Danny can handle the shots coming his way.
By the by it feels like Jacobs-Pirog was ancient history....that dude fell off the face of the earth!
Jacobs is a bit of an enigma. I have seen him go out there and swing for the fences sometimes and go out there and try to box on other occasions. Its easy to hunt when you know you're the one holding the gun. He has a great never quit attitude and confidence. That counter shot that Mora dropped him with told volumes though. More had planned that shot getting up from his own knock down, retreated across the ring, drew jacobs in while locked and loaded. Jacobs never even saw the punch because he was so intent on finishing. It all seemed to happen in slow motion.
As much as i have been anti quillen on here, for his crazy stiff legged footwork. I he got from the lee knockdown a lot better than i expected him too. He has quite a few flaws and leaves himself open sometime but i not sure if jacobs has the chops to really school him. Also i dont think jacobs can resist the allure of a knockout and will go in sloppy and get caught by quillen in an exchange. If pillow fisted mora can put jacobs down, i think quillen will have him on queer street the whole night.
Jacobs has chin issues too. More so than Quillin. If we are basing Quillin's chin on the Andy Lee fight, we are forgetting Lee is probably the hardest punching MW in the division today outside of Lemeiux and GGG.
With the greatest respect to GGG, Lee may have more one punch pop to him than GGG does. GGG gets you with accuracy and puts you down, but Lee can bang you out with one shot out of no-where and out of position that can end the fight!
I like this fight.
I'm siding with Jacobs because of his back story and the fact he comes across as a nice guy. Pathetic reason but whatever. I think either man could score a KO. Quillins punch output against Lee was poor, but maybe that was down to Lee's tactics/power.
Jacobs PTS 5/1
I like this fight.

Good competitive evenly matched fight.
Both nice guys and I'm torn who to root for.
Best man win I suppose.
True enough. I'll be cheering for Jacobs because I'm not fond of how Quillin approached the game and his choice of nicname while taking that approach has always bugged me. The real Kid Chocolate would never dreamt of taking that approach. Quillin has sat out and almost ducked much of his own prime while Jacobs fought Pirog at the beginning of his. I'm a sucker for adversity. Not much of it in this era of padded records and divisional stand still. Daniels chin quite literally comes to a point. Almost like a triangle. Quillin still looks awfully stiff above the waist and does not have Young Stribling's chin either and both men can bang. Jacobs imo is the better boxer and more fluid of the two but Quillin has the ring savvy upstairs. Should be a good one.
The real issue I have with picking Jacobs is how he got put on the canvas by Sergio Mora. Mora is the lightest punching middleweight in the top of the rankings. If he can put Jacobs down, I have to think Quillin might take him cold. Quillin is also a monster middleweight. I really wonder if he makes 160 safely today. On the other hand, Quillin is plodding and flat-footed, and more of a one-two guy. Jacobs has more nuance to his game. It's a good even scrap. I'm excited for it.
I'll add it kind of rubbed me the wrong way when asked if he would give more an rematch due to the broken ankle and he went "no, i'm just moving forward". If it was a one sided beating, i'd have no objection. If he said, "well right now i believe the tables set for a big fight... something my promoters working on, but after that sure, id rematch him in the future. He still seems like he has an injury to come back from." , i'd have no objection.. Jacobs has gotten some practice talking out of the side of his mouth while doing his commentating. So it kinda made it look like he realized he had some kind of close call, he lucked out and was going to take that and run. To anyone thinking, "who would run from sergio mora"?.... exactly
And Jacobs is talking bigger than Quillen for this fight... I understand the promotional aspect of running ones mouth... It just rings a little hollow now considering the Mora thing.
Love this very much slept on match up! This unfortunately has trailed in the shadow of that Cotto-Alvarez middleweight non middleweight show and at the risk of jinxing it, I cannot see this ending in anything other than a explosive shoot out. I too am stuck with the vision of Jacobs being badly dropped with a perfect Mora left hook and more so how Jacobs rushes out of position and has always dangled his chin. Anyone remember when Ishe Smith had him badly hurt and staggering? Wouldn't be shocked to see Quillin come in a bulky Lt heavyweight and think his left hook will be the one to cave in the house.
Btw anyone interested....the awaited return of Chris algeri in on Showtime extreme :-X
I got Jacobs winning this one. I think this may be a multiple swing fight. Where one guy takes over then the other takes over. Its a good match-up credit to both for putting it on the line.
I think Quillin KOs him. Jacobs is pretty good but I think that Quillin is a little better and has the punch to take him out. It's a good match up though. Definitely wouldn't be surprised to see Jacobs win though.
What time is the fight in the uk?
Undefeated Lt heavy Marcus Browne v trailhorse Francisco Sierra on Showextreme right now
Sierra misses weight by 6 lbs, fight goes on. * tko 4th for Brown. Bad cut result of right hand in 1st round.
Decent little scrap by Algieri and Erick Bone! Chris scores iffy KD in 9th and they finish with solid exchanges and 95-94..97-92x2 win Algieri. A lot less posturing and tap dancing by Algieri tonight.
Jacobs at 175 lbs..Looked like a KD for Cuellar in 3rd??? Oquendo is slowly running out of room to move..
Better 6th for Oquendo, stopped Cuello still on his heels with couple of counter. Cuello is so crude and seemingly open it works to his advantage.
If anyone cares Deontay Wilder is dressed like a Mime. He's also greatly anticipating his upcoming 3rd defense vs. the always game TBA next month.
Someone is about to get KO'd early! I'll put a anonymous ban bet for an undetermined time on it!!!
Boom goes the dynamite. Make a movie about Jacobs already
Terrible stoppage imo
Another bad call. Unreal.
Justified stoppage. However, it would have been nice to see Jacobs finish him off.
Not saying it wasn't headed that way but wtf
What the F**K was the ref doing ? That was an awful stoppage. Would not have thought that in the USA ring. Even UK refs (who are notorious for stopping fights early) would not have stopped that fight.
I take it back one eye was going left one right
