MLB Playoffs Thread

The NFL thread isn't getting much attention, so I imagine this MLB thread will get even less.

Still...

I'm not exactly a big baseball fan, but this is a good time of year. Football is in full swing, and baseball is in playoff time, with the World Series coming up. (Yeah... I hate the name too... but what can you do... it's tradition).

It's the Kansas City Royals vs. the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League, and the Chicago Cubs vs. the New York Mets in the National. Looks like the Royals are going to make short work of the Blue Jays.... and right now the Mets have a 2-0 games lead over the Cubs. I'd like for the Cubs to win the whole thing, seeing as to how they haven't won a World Series in over a century. But regardless of who wins the National, I'll be rooting for them in the Series. I wouldn't mind the Mets winning... as I can't stand the NY Yankees, and having the Mets win would give them New York bragging rights for the next year.

I was kinda hoping the Houston Astros would make it, since they got a phenomenal rookie from Puerto Rico (Carlos Correa)..... who's poised to be a huge star for years to come.

Watching Game 3 between the Mets and Cubs right now, and they're tied at 2 runs each.

Ahh crap! Mets won. The Cubs are officially dead, down 3-0 in games.

I hope toronto lose after their beer throwing incident against texas :S... Fun team to watch though.

Wasn't aware of that incident. But your wish should come true very soon, as Kansas City looks like the team to beat from all 4 teams in the playoffs. They beat the crap out of Toronto today.

I hate the Royals. I hope the Jays beat the shit out of them the next two games.

I thought they played tonight. Toronto isn't out of it. They seem pretty explosive at times.
Still.... I'll be rooting for the NY Mets in the Series.

Great, now two teams I hate are in the WS. I hate the Royals more so I'm pulling for the Mets.

I feel for ya, bro. Just out of curiosity, why do you hate the Royals? I've heard of people hating the Yankees and Dodgers, but never the Royals. I'm neutral on them. Like I said I'll be rooting for the Mets, just 'cause I want them to be able to thumb their noses at the Yankee fans for the next year.

I'm a Orioles fan. They beat us in the ALCS last year. So go Mets.

I like the orioles, just about every time i have put one of their games on it has been highly entertaining and just back and forth. A total coincidence i'm sure but whatever.


I am glad that toronto are out now, even though they have been a great team to watch throughout the season, I bet a couple of dollars on kansas to win the whole thing and I think they will but I would prefer if the mets did

NY Mets hanging on to a 1-run lead in the 8th..... bringing in their closer.

Yep..... Royals win it in the bottom of the 14th inning. :(

So now the Royals blast the Mets in Game 2, and go to New York with a 2-0 game lead.
I smell a sweep.

Brother Titofan It's starting to look like a sweep. KC pitching both starters and bullpen are tough. The Mets will have to score at least five runs tonight or it's 3-0.

Ahhhh!!! Take heart, MrBig!! The Mets averted a sweep by handing the Royals a pounding of their own. I'm so glad it's not going to be a sweep. That would've been sooooo embarrassing to what is in fact an excellent team. Seems like going to New York helped them out.

Damn, though. The TV network is so good at throwing a wet blanket with their statistics... LOL. I thought I saw a stat on the percentage of teams that fall behind in the WS 0-2, and still manage to come back and win the Series. It wasn't pretty, my friend.

Still..... if the Mets manage a sweep in New York and go up 3-2..... they can still pull it off.

the way the mlb playoffs are set up helps the lower seeded team quite a lot, I like it, in the nhl I think they go 2 2 then alternate home games, having the 3 games in a row at home can really create some good momentum for the lower seed even if they lose the first two games. I hope new york pull it out but I think kansas have this in the bag unfortunatley

Yeah, I prefer the 2-3-2 format to all others. Less traveling, for one thing. Also, it balances things out a little bit, like you said. The home team might sweep you at the start, like KC did. But the next 3 games gives the other team ample opportunity to get back in it. And yeah..... I like the Mets.... but KC has an astoundingly solid team all around. Hard to pick the Mets in this Series.

The Mets totally deserved to lose this Series. Errors galore, no batting whatsoever.... and just no perceptible desire to win. Daniel Murphy, after lighting up the Cubs with homeruns, went all meek at the plate, doing absolutely zilch. Not content with not batting, he suddenly became an error-prone infielder. WTF?!? His errors totally cost the Mets the Series.

Can't take any credit away from the Royals, however. They just kept on coming and coming.... like the tide. No stopping those guys. They totally wanted it more.

Bad weekend all around for New York (LOL). The Mets, Giants, and Jets all lost.
Oh well.....
