Bad news for me...Malta fight is off due to injury (pics)

Basically I suffered a concussion in boxing a few weeks ago and i came to work when I shouldn't of 😞!Wasnt in a good way at all. A lot of people have been acting different with me especially this old prick who I work with. I went home yesterday cos I cracked my filling and my tooth was in pain so badly and I didn't go back to work but txt me boss and she didn't tell him. Then he came in this morning fully kicking off on me at like 6am saying nobody wants me to work there and I need to sort myself out etc. I'm a disgrace bla bla. So I said well if that's the case here's my pass and threw it at him. I didn't kick off or swear or got violent but just packed my stuff and went home. Got home at like 6:30am and my mum is very work stressed at the mo and she went mental but I did the right thing cos I had a 12 hour shift with him and I was getting so angry cos he was speaking to me like a 2 year old. So I lost my temper cos my mum and stepdad were screaming at me !!! Then I punched what I thought was a plastic picture but it was glasss and it fractured my finger and fucked my fingers 😞!!! I'm an idiot but I was so stressed from work an everything just got to me. I never lose my temper but if i do stupid things like that happen.

im leaving this dead end job anyway and joining my friend and professional boxer Mike Staffords security firm now but can't work there when I'm apparently the 'talk of the building' cos I came in concussed. It's unfortunate but I will still be training , just no punching with my right hand for 6 weeks :/!!

I personally Facebook messaged my opponent and apologised and explained and he was understanding, it's not like the fight is this weekend it's 5 weeks away and they will sort a replacement. He said they have shows on a lot and they will sort out I can fight on it again which was good to hear.

I spoke to the RAF yesterday and in three months time I'll be able to apply to be a physical training instructor so hopefully in a years time I'll be doing that after the full application and acceptance is complete.

Thats how I ended up getting out of boxing. Got pissed off with something going on with a girl and punched a wall in our house as hard as I could and instantly regretted it. The back of my right hand swelled up like half a tennis ball and couldnt punch a bag with any force it for about 6 months and gradually lost interest.

Shame for your career in the short term but what I did was continue training and only punched with my left. My jab got very good!

Anger can be a bit of an issue when training (or when you're used to training and you stop) you need to have other outlets other than just training. The clearer your head is from frustration and anger the sharper you will be.

Take care of yourself, it's good that you are away from the older gent who treats you like a child, but this is not going to be something solved so easily. You may feel as though anger helps you in the ring, but that can be very difficult to turn off outside the ring....I had that issue moving on from my days of playing sports.

Hand doesn't look good. Sorry to hear about your issues at work. Hope things heal quickly for you.

Bummer. I broke my hand once. North of 40 bar in Edmonton Alberta winter 1995. Half loaded got into a dust up, went to nail a guy he moved his head and my fist met the cement wall outside. Never felt a thing and continued but the next day my LORD! Hand the size of a football and the pain was beyond description. The only thing close was a cracked rib.

Cheers guys everything will be ok. I've got a new job, better pay and less hours. Things will be a lot better for me. It's a minor set back but I don't think itS going to be too bad. It's not my knuckle that broke its the middle bit which is better.

My frustration is doing a degree in sports business and then working a not good job and being spoke to in the manor I have. I've got a very good social life and I'm happy. I'm at happiest when I'm training and it's helped me sort out problems I had in my life.

Look at what happened with Crolla and Brook... This isn't even anything compared to that. I take them as inspiration and I'm starting a new job tomorrow and I'll be fine again in no time.

Vella said he will fight me in the future so it's just a delay to this happening. I've spoke to my conditioning coach and he's working out a plan for me until my hand heals so I'll still Be in the gym and I'll be doing more running. I'm not letting this get the better of me.

I'm the most calmest and relax person ever, that was out of character from me. But you can only provoke somebody no matter how calm they are to a certain point. I rarely lose my temper, and at least I didn't do it to the guy at work. I walked away and didn't say a word. It was the mature decision. But when your own mother is screaming at you and pushing you , and you're already angry and upset I just had to let my emotion out and I would never in a million years do that to my own mother no matter how horrible she was being but I saw red and I'm having to pay the price for it now. It was a stupid mistake but we are human at especially when this company has me up at 5am doing 12 hour shifts 8 days on the bounce and me training so much and people acting funny with me it all got too much.

I'm fine now, it's happened. I've sorted everything with the boss, and my mum. I've got myself a new job and life goes on.

Very silly Tam (although I have punched a wall myself but that was shadow boxing and not in anger). Try to count to 10 and take deep breaths. It works.

I know head injuries and trauma is common in boxing but not so much concussion.

I am concerned about your concussion and need to get it scanned as well as to give sparring a long rest.

Nobody likes to hear this type of pap, I know I didn't, but sometimes things do work out for the best. Take some time away from the gym and figure out what brought you to where things got away from you. You think you're fine now, but slow everything down and think some more.
Lack of sleep, pressure/too many demands, overly optimistic priorities are all triggers for meltdowns. Take the time to really figure it out, there's only one Tam, so don't try to do the work of three.

It's hard when i have to be up for 5am for work everyday and then train for this big fight and then have to deal with a draining dull 12 hour shift with an achohlic who use to be in the navy. My head is fine now, i did have doctors do tests on me and everything was fine. I was angry because I've woken up to a pointless argument which had nothing to do with my former work colleague and my mother was screaming at me too. I was calm as anything master I could of easily assaulted the guy at work or verbally abused him but I did the correct thing and walked away and spoke to my boss ok the phone after I had been to the hospital. It's rare I ever get angry and it came out because my mum pushed me too far and I'm not an aggressive person but I'm human and everybody can get wound up and lose it. Especially when I'm training and dieting and doing countless 12 hour shifts with low life's like this guy was.

Anyway I got back to trained Today and the owner of the gym posted this on Facebook about me. I could of easily sat at home feeling sorry for myself or i could of got back to the gym and carry on what I've started and do what I can do. I also did a 5 mile run after because I didn't do that much in the gym just light shadow boxing , ab work and some ring step ups.

I'm not going to let this situation turn into a negative. I won't fight again this year and fingers crossed this will give me good preparation time to turn into a decent 12 stone fighter in the new year.

Oh well. Its not as if you are the first fighter with a hand problem;D At least you never had a punch up with a glass shower stall like Zab Judah.

Good luck Tam these things have a way of working out for the best if you simply allow them to. New things will pop up for you mate, go with your instincts and follow your heart.

Shit happens man, must be hard trying to work and do boxing at the same time. Kind of like work and college. Try and walk away when shit gets heavy. I've done the same thing, luckily it was dry wall and all I had to do was patch it up.

I hit a lot of walls in my early 20's, sometimes the head came it as a follow up. Third knuckle is smashed since and I've never boxed a day in my life. These are your tools mate and obviously trained and hoping to provide some future. Everyone loses there cool though and better to hit a wall than a cop, mum and dad...or the cat. You get the drift. Take care of them and hope ya heal up quick. Always footwork to work on eh? When negative soul suckers surround you..especially old ones nearing the otherside...and bash about your job and personal dealings, fook them. They have not earned the right to drain you like that and its easy to get overwhelmed and lash out. Been there, own the t shirt :-X. Take care of yourself bud.

Can't do anything on the training front apart from running and I'm going to have a good chat with my coach tomorrow about seeing what I can do in the mean time to keep positive and see what I can actually do in the gym with one hand.

Completely have messed up here and one heat of the moment action has caused me a lot of bother. I've lost my job and I'm in pain, can't fight, can't train properly. Shit times really :(. I put on Facebook I fell off my bike because I don't want people to think I'm an angry man who punches pictures. If you knew me in properly in person in the complete opposite of that. This was completely out of character and it takes a lot to push my buttons :(!

Hopefully will make me a stronger person though and make me realise I need to keep control of my emotion all of the time. Even if it is 6am in the morning and arguments start. My hands stil really sore, but thankfully I've got a new job already. Similar money and it's in a strip club on the door. Hot ladies, work half the amount of hours and I'm on pretty much the same pay.

Hopefully my hand heals soon then I can spend more time training too, want to have a fair amount of fights before I go to the RAF next year and make sure my fitness is better than it already is. Just need to keep positive and keep doing what I can do and hopefully this year will fly by and I can be a physical training instructor in the RAF

Training wise you can still spar and do padwork, just left handed only. Your jab will improve massively. There will come a point in a few weeks you can hit the pads with the right but lightly, not the bags though. Too much resistance. Skills wise it shouldnt effect you, it could help. You can concentrate on jabs amd left hooks and head movement, defence.

I've been working on Jab and hook work, cycling and running too. Weigh 12 stone 4 at the mo so still feel good. I've got my finger in a splint now for a while though and got to speak to a doctor on Tuesday so I'm gona find out more then
