Would really want to have to listen to that bollocks between rounds?
What a pathetic show for the camera.....
Lighten up ross. Bradley was probably thinking he's a fucking nutter.
At least he wasn't announcing the fight, when he's in the corner we only need to hear him for a short time.
Atlas is great, dont knock the man. He knows his boxing asides from the predictions thing.
Hilarious, annoying, staged for the camera, total BS, or what Bradley needs? I can see all around that pentagon, but the important question is how Bradley was reacting to that pep talk? You can see from Bradley"s wide eyes and the way he jumped up from the stool that he was eating it up!
Oh yeah, Bradley wanted to get in there and put out the Rios fire! Tim Bradley, team player and warrior!! IMO.
Thats not what a fighter should be thinking. He should have clear instruction on what he needs to be doing, just bare min um stuff because alot of stuff told to you between rounds you dont remember anyway.
I havent watched the fight bt from that im presumng Bradley had no threat in front of him so Atlas thought hed take the opportunity to show off because it was no where near a critical moment where his fighter needed instrction and he could have told him a nursery rhyme for the same amount of benefit.
Watch the fight sir, you'll see Teddy at his best, giving detailed instructions and a pep talk between rounds. Watch Bradley at the beginning of that 7th round, you'll wish there was more of Bradley's spirit in Fury. Relax, I'm just rattling your chain! You will be surprised at Bradley's reaction to that pep talk, without doubt!
Kind of a categorical imperative. That's not directed at anyone in particular but everyone.
It was a brilliant job by both tutor and student and the result speaks for itself. You certainly don't get any idea of how that brilliance manifested by a 40 second clip in one of the 2 or 3 round breaks where he got a tad animated. If anything, Teddy was controlled throughout. I watched it twice because the programming geniuses in Yukon have HBO starting an hour late. You know just to make sure the door mats don't miss their show.
People are already making broad conclusions about how bad Rios looked and ignoring completely how good of a job Tim did on making him look bad. I thought for sure he'd turn into Holyfield. Brandons little cry fest after the fight and retirement announcement changes nothing. Foreman did the same thing after Jimmy Young. Bradley fought a fight I thought he no longer had in him and Teddys corner talk was spot on until the stoppage.
Now that Khan has most likely lost the Manny fight by blowing his load in the press again(starting to make me think he does this on purpose) he can challenge Bradley since Kell is not yet worthy.
That is classic Teddy Atlas and I don't believe he stages anything. That is just who he is and that is who he has always been I'm sure he does the same s*** what he's by himself and no one is listening. I thought it was very motivational myself although it borders on ridiculous still it was a good analogy and really had an effect on Bradley as he jumped off his stool. Job well done if we didn't have Teddy Atlas what would we have
Rios was fat and slow and getting slower by the round. There was no way he was suddenly going to come out guns blazing. A little bit of grandstanding by Teddy there. Never mind. Bradley did look really good so Teddy earned his money.
All things being equal, the bigger man wins.
All things not being equal, being bigger could get you the win.
Tim put on a masterful performance Saturday night but its somehow overshadowed by the fact that Rios looked bad ?
He looked bad because Tim put on a masterful performance.
It was the same Rios who had the luxury of using weight and having guys stand in front of him.
Nobody said he was slow or 20+ pounds heavier when he was winning.
Every time the better man wins there was something wrong with the loser.
Even the announcers sell out to that crap weekly.
His weight cheating came back and bit him in the ass because things were not equal skill wise and the speed difference was almost palatable just like in the Manny fight.
Bradley is an elite fighter that put on an elite performance against the exact same fighter that fought Alvarado, Manny and Chaves. He was never a world beater.
About two plus minutes into this- Teddy is humble like I've never seen. His (trust) conversation here shows the (other) side of Atlas

Love Teddy!
What a bunch of miserable cunts. Blimey.....
@Fenster
After watching it again---yeah..Funking hilarious.:biglaugh:
Teddy is so cringe though dude lives his life like every scene is a movie. imagine him at 5:30am "this is not just any meal, ITS FUC*ING BREAKFAST. WE'RE THE EGGS AND BACON, THE SYRUP IS TRYING TO SLOW YOU DOWN! USE THE BISCUITS AND ROLL WITH IT!!!!!!!
;D
Brilliant.
The results speak for themselves. Teddy was in fact giving detailed instructions to Bradley, and making sure Tim was listening. More cornermen should do that. Most of the time whatever's said falls on deaf ears. That being said, it's pretty obvious Teddy knew he was on TV and Teddy's never known a camera he didn't like. He's usually on the announcer end, so he was well aware that he was "on stage". More power to him, though.
;D
With Teddy you know what you're getting. He just gets all short circuited..wide eyes and partially drooling and once that happens you just know he is about to come out with some off the wall part comic book, part fortune cookie auctioneer and part pro wrestler ;D In between the bluster and soap box its obvious he has an impact on Bradley. Shit I'd rather see cornermen try to be part of the show than some intrusive referee (unless its John Ruiz trainer norm stone) :-X. It was a bit of a sidebar nod by Teddy to the first responders of N.Y, police and fire that he's done work with too, that and he loves FIRE TRUCKS!!!
teddy is the man! i met him once, very nice guy and a fountain of boxing info. bradley looked great with atlas in his corner!
Bradley did look like he was getting fired up lol.
Some fighters need calm cool instructions, some need inspiration. The good trainers figure out what their fighter needs to hear and that's what they give them.
Teddy is always using metaphors to get points across, sometimes it can sound silly but he has solid reasoning behind it.
Atlas is a lunatic.;D
That was inspiring and Bradley was psyched by it. If it works, keep it up.
Teddy has always been my favorite. Nothing like a good ol metaphor!
I think it worked, Bradley looked ready to respond. Beyond all that fireman hype there was good instruction in the previous rounds. That was just the lil spark Bradley needed at that point to not get complacent. I thought it was good corner work.
I always liked his input to a certain degree but he had more confusing analogies than Doctor Phil. Sayings like ' You can take a man to the ocean but that doesn't mean he can put out a small Ethiopian campfire' . (I actually just made that up but am not far off here). Then I would just shake my head and do a double take. But I read his autobiography and it was very good and would recommend it personally. I do get a kick out of him and maybe the difference he is making in Bradley (if indeed he is) is all in Bradley's head. But if so that is all that really matters. Not crazy about how Bradley praises him so much pretty much crapping on Diaz without actually saying so.
Give Atlas a break after Tyson put the gun to his head he f****** lost all his senses
I watched the entire fight.....Bradley loves that kind of pump up talk. It's quite obvious that he thrives when he has someone in the corner giving him that kind of halftime "Win one for the Gipper" speech. And the style looks good on him....I like it. I am happy for Bradley and for Atlas that they have made their trainer/fighter relationship gel so quickly.
