Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
Nobody really gave him too much of a chance, he defeated a champion in his home, unbeaten in 11 years, on route to beating Joe Louis record...So would have had a great chance of beibg recognised as one of the best heavyweights ever , even though he still probably is. Fury dominated the fight and did it in impressive fashion. He put on a boxing display and didn't stay in the pocket to get wacked by Wlad. Wlad didn't get that right hand going at all and was truely beaten.
Chocolatito should have a good chance too and Golovkin. But fury really does have a great chance of winning FOTY.

Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
Haha. Hopefully this is a joke thread
-
Mayweather beat Pac , who was higher on the p4p list than Wlad, so why would Fury be fighter of the year?
Golovkin, Crawford and others would be above him . Let's have some perspective, Fury won a World Title against the odds. It was a great win.
It doesn't make him fighter of the year, Prime minister or Nobel Prize winner! It makes him HW champ of the World.
Why is it that when a Brit wins a fight, they become elevated to God like status?
I'm seriously considering starting a thread saying "Should Fury be Knighted?" Only people would think I was serious. π

Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
Furys win is more significant than any other win this year. Pacquiao was in the p4p rankings? Big deal! Wlad was supposedly THE top p4p fighter after Mayweather.
So Fury beats the most dominant champ today and p4p best fighter in the world in his home of Germany but hold on lets not get carried away because Mayweather beat Pacquiao in Mayweathers home town;D Your right, no one expected that!

Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
Wlad wasn't the P4P no.1 and not even close to it.
Who decides the fighter of the year? Fury arguably pulled off the biggest upset (not betting odds) but he can't hold a candle to the likes of Chocolatito, Golovkin etc.

Who said it was unexpected ? you dopey twat. so are we saying that to be fighter of the year, you have to have the most unexpected victory:rolleyes: even if that was the criteria, it still wouldn't be Fury, because as you keep telling me with your vast knowledge of betting , this wasn't that much of a shock result , was it?
and as for significance , Mayweather and Pacquiao were no.1 and no.2 P4P. how can there be a more Significant fight, you fucking idiot?
If there is a prize for "fighter of the weekend", Fury would win it hands down. But what the fuck has he done for the rest of the year?
as far as I'm concerned, someone like Golovkin or Crawford or A World Champ that has consistently defended his title against top opposition throughout the year should be candidates for fighter of the year. Now Fuck off cos I'm bored of you and I'm busy.

Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
Nobody should have Floyd victory as a reason for him being p4p number one. It was boring and he only beat Berto apart from that. Pacquiao had been knocked spark out by Marquez not too long ago and also lost to Bradley although I didn't agree with that loss. Nobody had came close to beating Wlad. Unbeaten for 11 years, nobody give Fury a hope in hell and he dominated him.
Golovkin still hasn't beaten an elite fighter, he's looked good in whooping contenders but doesn't have that elite name. Gonzalez was good vs Viloria but I think Furys victory outweighs that one. Same goes for any of Crawfords victories.
I actually think that win is fighter of the year worthy.
-
Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
Not sure you should bring up the "boring factor" when making a case for Fury. If forced to watch a fight again i'd pick Floyd-Pac over that heavyweight rubbish all day long.

Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
Wlad wasn't that good. Not even a top p4p fighter. He did dominated a weak division. And also having an upset doesn't make you deserve FOTY. Winning one fight shouldn't make you win the fight. As primo said, pac is easily better than wlad so mayweather should be FOTY by your criteria.
If fury beat wlad earlier this year then beat wilder and got his belt I could see him getting it because he proved to be dominant in his weight class instead of just getting an upset win. Winning FOTY means that you showed your dominance. It doesn't mean you upset a good fighter.

Amen to that. Like I said, Fighter of the weekend, yes, fighter of the month , probably, fighter of the year , no!
-
Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
Fury has a good argument for fighter of the year, as does Mayweather. Like Mayweather, Fury really only has one good win this year. However, Wlad is a future first-ballot HOF, and never mind the level of the division, beating the decade's best heavyweight says a lot any way you cut it.
Canelo beat Cotto and Kirkland. He might be the front-runner.
Crawford beat whom? Dierry John and Thomas Dolorme. Not even close to FOY.
Postol has had a good year with the win over Matthysse.
Chocolatito beat Viloria, Leon and Sosa, only Viloria is a really good win, but still not a great win.
GGG beat Lemieux, Monroe Jr., and Murray. Good wins, not great.
Glowacki had a good win over a long-reigning cruiserweight title holder in Marco Huck.
DeGale beat Bute and Dirrell. That's a solid year.
Is there anyone else with at least two really good wins?
For me, unless I'm missing someone, it is Fury, Mayweather, Canelo, DeGale, and GGG.

I have to disagree completely. Wlad dominated a division for ten years. He literally rarely lost a round for 10 years. That's incredible, never mind the level of his division. Just to name a few of his accomplishments, he pitched a shut out against lineal, unified cruiserweight champion, David Haye, beat multiple former gold medalists, and fought in countries around the world. Wlad is a first ballot HOF. Easy.

Canelo beat Cotto and Kirkland. He might be the front-runner. Agreed
Crawford beat whom? Dierry John and Thomas Dolorme. Not even close to FOY. He fought 2 top 10/15 fighters in the year, Fury fought 1.
Postol has had a good year with the win over Matthysse. About the same as Fury although Fury tops him because of the previous dominance his opponent had.
Chocolatito beat Viloria, Leon and Sosa, only Viloria is a really good win, but still not a great win. Definitely a Contender if not the winner. He's dominating his division in fine style!
GGG beat Lemieux, Monroe Jr., and Murray. Good wins, not great. Again , Dominating his division and beating top 10 guys with regularity
Glowacki had a good win over a long-reigning cruiserweight title holder in Marco Huck. Similar to Fury
DeGale beat Bute and Dirrell. That's a solid year. Yes, but not good enough to compete with some of the above
Is there anyone else with at least two really good wins? Maybe Kovalev
For me, unless I'm missing someone, it is Fury, Mayweather, Canelo, DeGale, and GGG.
Fighter of the year has to be more than one good night, albeit an exceptionally good one. for me, you have to show consistency through the year. and I don't think it has to be someone who has pulled off One upset. I would put Mayweather (Sorry Eric), Canelo, GGG, Chocolatito and Crawford(Possibly) above him, and I would probably put Chocolatito at the top of the pile.

Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
If Wlad didn't look so bad against Jennings and the Fury vs Wlad fight didn't look like shit on a shingle, I'd say maybe. Truthfully and I'm blaming Wlad mostly, it was one of the worst heavyweight fights I've seen!

I put money on Clazaghe to win and he did so its not impossible.

Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
Of course Fury will be fighter of the year.... he's just gone and ripped multiple Heavyweight titles from a man who hasn't lost in nearly TEN YEARS and in his back yard making him look a novice scared cunt in the process - all this on a square bouncy castle for 36 minutes with THE most corrupt judging system in boxing history against him;D.
Takes some doing that

Holly Holms is a better boxer than Fury, she should get it for her win over Rousey. It was much more exciting and her opponent was trying to win!
Holms for fighter of the year! A big plus is she doesn't sing after she wins! ν ½νΈν ½νΉ

Depends on your definition.
Fight of the year? Hell no.
Best fighter of the year? No.
Best result (for boxing) of the year? Yeah.

Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
I don't think the powers that be like fury , so probably whatever he does he wont get the award. But then again he doesn't give a shit.

Khan , Froch, Degale, Frampton & Quigg to a degree "Biggest fight in the division, yet they've both systemically avoided the best fighter in the division." Joshua a bit (I like him, but how is him v Whyte worthy of PPV?) even Hatton to a degree, McGuigan. Do you want me to go on?

Iv already called yo up on this. You even quoted it which proves it wasnt his views at all. He was quoting the bible:rolleyes:
Never mind the media it seems some of this sites very own moderators resent Fury winning and being THE heavyweight champion of the world.

Re: Will Fury be fighter of the year ?
The fuck you talking about? "Called me up on it?"
Fury compared homosexuality and abortion to paedophilia. He believes the first two should be illegal and there's a comparison to be made.
My point in this thread was about the BBC. Fury might as well be a million to one because an open bigot is never winning a BBC award.

As for the word Bigot, loads of biggoted opinions seem to be coming out of the wood work from the moderators here!
