Oscar De La Hoya said today in San Juan "....I promise I'll be in my best condition ever....I'll weigh a max of 155 to 156 pounds...I'll be fast and I'll use my all of hand speed to beat Hopkins on Sept. 18." De La Hoya, in San Juan to receive the WBO middleweight title belt, was very upbeat throughout the press conference. Bernard Hopkins was also there, adding "congratulations Oscar. You won the WBO belt. "You can enjoy carrying it around for 90 days, then you'll be turning it over to me. I want all four title belts when I walk out of the ring on Sept. 18." After the press conference, De La Hoya took a flight to Los Angeles. Hopkins will stay in San Juan on Friday night and be at ringside for the Top Rank/Telefutura fight card which features Henry Bruseles vs. Lino Perez in San Juan. Billed as 'Quest for History,' De La Hoya vs. Hopkins for the World Middleweight Championship, is scheduled Sept. 18 (HBO Pay-Per-View) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. 8)

I agree. I think the only guy that can beat Hopkins is De La Hoya. No I'm not ashamed to say it but I think DLH will pull off an upset and Hopkins streak will end. Then everyone will :bowdown: :blow: DLH.

DLH says he will weigh in at around 155, that he will give up the weight in prefrence to being mobile . But i still think he will lose by ko probably around round 8. DLH is tough but Hopkins will be entirly to strong and he will adapt to DLH speed, i think Hopkins is going to stay close to DLH take his body out and then ko him.

I do think that the Oscar who answered the bell at the Vargas fight will beat up the big mouthed, mask wearing B-Hop.
I don't really think that 6 pounds, or whatever it is, is going to make a difference.
Oscar doesn't need this in his life anymore IMO.
He is doing it cuz he wants to.

i hate to say this mram but i dont agree with you man.....

if hopkins is going to win it will be a decision.. its hard to stop the golden boy.. i dont think oscar will make the same mistake like tito did against b-hop... dlh by unanimous decision

like to think ODH is really in this, but if it aint his AAA game he brings...... :-\ I just keep thinking bout the Tito V Hopkins fight. I reckon ODH won his fight with Tito...but Felix just looked so small in there with 'I will execute my own career Hopkins'. I know styles make fights but damm i dont want to see Oscar go out in a bad way. :boxingmatch:

8) I still think Tito has a better chance of beating Hopkins right now than Oscar does at middleweight! But want to see Tito fight the winner of Bernard vs Oscar! If Tito does end up having to fight Hopkins again Id still like to see him fight Oscar somewhere down the line again after that! ! ! ;D

I agree DLH is a tough guy i dont think ive ever seen him seriously hurt in a fight, I thought Tito was gettin close when DLH starting running away. Anyway the reason i think DLH will get koed is because even at 147 he couldnt come in in great shape, he seems to lose something right around the 6th rnd, i dont think that will change now, on the other hand Hopkins is ready to fight 15rds wich im in favor of. Hopkins is stronger and craftier, the only advantage i give DLH is hand speed and i think Hopkins will be able to smother his hand speed by coming in close to DLH and hitting him with short punches to his whatever he wants to hit him.

What worries me is I thought Oscar looked all business & focused for the Sturm fight.
That didn't end in round 1 like I thought... ;D

Don't let the Sturm fight discourage you. Sturm is a bum and got lucky. DLH will beat Hopkins either by decision or a shocking counter punch KO. Yeah, you damn right I said it, DLH by KO. :o

to be honest I don't even think that Tito put all his effort into the Hopkins fight. One reason being all the propaganda that was going on with the flag issue and 9/11, I know that over here in Puerto Rico, they kept showing the promotion of the fight as if it were PR Vs. USA! that was really disturbing! I still honestly believe that Trinidad is a better fighter than Hopkins, just not a better fighter that De La Hoya.

Sturm didn't whoop DLH's ass for 11 rnd's that was a close fight and DLH hurt Sturm more than he was given credit, he stunned him at least three times in that fight......still i had the fight 114-113 DLH

The ONLY WAY Dlh Will get a win is if the judges give it to him, the same way they gave it to him in the Sturm fight..IT WAS A GIFT...Sturm was the sacrificial lamb... DLh Did not earn that win..
DLH will get his head handed to him against hopkins..if it goes to decision, what the judges may or may not do is a whole different story.

And I don't really see what the big deal about Hopkins is, most of his title defences have been against mediocre fighters, and Trinidad didn't really put his heart into their fight so wouldn't even count that as a big victory! DLH by UD even maybe late stoppage and I'll put my house on it ;) lol

No Trinidad wasnt a big victory.. but it was an easy one, because he had no business being in the ring with Hopkins, lol.. Trinidad is OVER-RATED.. period.. :)

ODH got taught how to counter and score with harder shots against Strum. You scoring the same as the amatures there or what? You cant score checked shots and glances ,this is the pros.

Oscar has to hurt Bernard to win. We saw how all his quick and clean combos were picked off and walked through by Strum, again i ask, how the f**k is Oscar going to keep B-Hop out of his ass? He's gonna get in there and make oscar his bitch. The ONLY chance Oscar has is if Hopkins decides to get old that night. But hey, crazier things have happened.

8) I also think that Oscar just may fight one of his best fights hes fought in awhile on the night of the Hopkins fight! But unless this fight is so close that they call it a split decision and give it to Oscar and I wouldn't doubt it for a second even though your suppose to beat a champion convincingly! I see know way Bernard Hopkins wont beat him that night because hes still the champion! Like I said Oscar might fight his best fight in a long time but just can't see him beating Bernard Hopkins straight out that night not by what I saw in the Strum fight! I still will be rooting for Oscar but he just didn't look good in that fight at that weight its going to make a difference and did against Strum. Bernard is a whole different story he knows how to win when its time to step up just as Oscar did at the lower weights but this fight is at middleweight and Bernard is a naturel middleweight with much more power than Strum! I even think Tito has a much better chance of beating Hopkins than Oscar! I hope the winner faces Trinidad if everything goes well in the Mayorga vs Trinidad fight and I see know reason why not Tito can box much better than most boxers that have beat Mayorga so far and thats where he has his problems is against boxers so I think Mayorga is in trouble anytime in that fight unless he just flat gets lucky early but Tito has been touched by harder hitters so think even if that happened he'd get right back up and finish hard as he has in his past! Only time he didn't was against Hopkins but I think hes gonna get another shot at it real soon! ! !8)

I'm shocked to read someone thought Oscar rose for big fights! :0

It was a huge fight and Oscar gets credit for taking on B Hop. Hopkins played with Oscar before stopping him.

I now find it interesting that Oscar finally admitted he could have gotten up after that body shot.
