Tarver would outbox him imo
tarver easily.
calzaghe would beat tarver...probably by clear UD...maybe on points...
I don't think Calzaghe would win, he's too small and isn't as good against counter punchers.. Also I don't know one good southpaw he has ever fought.. Could be wrong, but that's a big intangible if this fight ever were to happen.
you question calzaghe's chance against tarver because of his size and yet you think hopkins has a much more reasonable chance against tarver....remember calzaghe is a large supermiddle weight...a jump up to light heavy is nothing too big...Quote:

calzaghe has a good chance of beating this 37 year old tarver...
We're talking about if they fought this year. And Calzaghe would be knocked out brutally by tarver. Calzaghe is neither Hopkins or Jones Jr.
im talking about this year and tarver facing a top of the game calzaghe....no way tarver ko's him...
calzaghe has never been close to being ko'd and no way tarver does that to calzaghe....tarver may have ko'd jones jr, but no way does calzaghe have jones jr's chin....
i think both hopkins and calzaghe can beat tarver, only i think hopkins at this stage would have the more difficult job, but both men can do it....
And how would Calzaghe who is open between his shots not get caught by Tarver's straight left hand ???
I've have only seen Calzaghe fight Lacy. He fought a perfect fight that night. I'm not sure if he was that good or Lacy was that bad, but I would have to guess the first. If that's the case I think he would have a good chance against Tarver. He's a tough fighter with great skills.
who's to say calzaghe couldnt take tarvers punches? he's taken punches from other opponents and remained firmly intact. never close to being ko'ed. jones went 12 rounds with tarver, johnson went the distance twice, there is nothing to suggest that calzaghe couldnt outwork tarver for a clear decision and eat a few punches on the way...calzaghe can fight non stop, tarver cant. he has stamina issues. he's coming down after heavily bulking up. and he's ageing.
i maintain that calzaghe beats tarver at this stage in the game....
Have you seen his fight with Byron Mitchell.. Dont say he wasn't remotely close to being Koed, he was completely stunned for a few seconds before he went to his knees, and honestly he's lucky as shit that Mitchell didn't pounce on him and land another big shot on the way down, really Mitchell was shocked that he had him so hurt, more than anything.. Also you say Calzaghe wouldn't get KOed cuz of the fact that Roy Jones chin just isn't as good.. Well the fact is that Jones looked good in the second fight, and that punch Tarver landed was a great shot, much better than the shot that Mitchell landed on Calzaghe. If Tarver landed that punch on Calzaghe, I definetly think he would get Koed. I mean either guy could win but I just don't see any way you can say there is NO chance of either one getting KOed, its completely possible both can crack and anyone can get KOed. Tarvers got a great chin too, you know. I just feel Tarver could keep Calzaghe away with his reach and like I say, he's a tricky southpaw and a great counter puncher, both things that aren't in Calzaghes favour imo. It would definetly be a great fight though, maybe the no.1 I would want to see happen right now.Quote:

I agree Calzaghe has a chance against Tarver, but don't be fooled by his fights against RJJ who hits harder and faster than Calzaghe even now... Tarver's jab IMO would really screw Calzaghe up, and Tarver throws good combinations himself.Quote:

Star do you want any money on that??
Calzaghe works to hard for Tarver, gets knocked out hahahahaha, yes ok, he knocks out old man Jones now you think he would knock out Calzaghe, Glen Fucking Johnson knocked RJJ, dont make me laugh.
Tarver would be beaton by Calzaghe.
agreed. :coolclick:
tarver IMO is overrated....his wins over jones jr and johnson were good, but you have to keep it all in context...
johnson was previously regarded as a very good journeyman and jones has been on the slide....
still, tarver lost to both before needing rematches....
Also lets put into context Tarvers amazing left hand that Knocked out the glass jawed RJJ.
That was the same jaw Glen "far from knockout artist " Johnson put to sleep.
Johnson has knocked 2 opponents in his last 13 fights.
Tarver would not knock Calzaghe out in a month of sundays.
Tarver struggled to dispose of a journeyman Johnson who has been beaton by far from A Class fighters like Sheike-Ottke-Gonzalez-Vanderpool all these guys Calzaghe would demolish. Given Johnson seems to have improved a fiar bit over the years, but Tarver is not in Calzaghes class and that will be proved when they meet in the ring.
Tarver looked poor against a totally shot RJJ, i cant wait for this fight if it happens to shut the even more growing doubters ten before the Lacy fight.
Tarver had stamina issues anyway. Now, at 37, hes gotta come back down from ballooning up for that Rocky film?? If he does ever make it back down hes not gonna have that much in him, calzaghe's ferocious workrate should make this an easy win for him. Personally I dont see Tarver ever fighting at light heavy again after Hopkins, I wouldnt be surprised if he missed weight for the Hopkins fight. 37 is pretty old to take off all the wieght and still be in fighting shape.
