woah!
Bugger I didnt know he was suffering cancer. RIP MR Bowie. :(
Rest in Peace
Thank you for everything, David Bowie. You will be sorely missed.
I had the new Bowie album delivered this morning. I played it and flicked through the inlay reading the lyrics. This is what I have always done when a new Bowie album comes out. It is an important event.
To hear that David Bowie has died today breaks my heart. RIP.
I wonder how his ex Missus is feeling now , the fucking Whore! I don't know if you guys in the States would know about Celebrity Big Brother, but She's currently in the house. She's also been in the tabloids for the last few days completely slagging off Bowie to make a few quid.
Either she knew he was seriously ill, in which case she's a spiteful cunt that slags him off but still wants to make money off his name, or she didn't know he was as ill as he was , in which case she wouldn't be close to him so why dredge up shit from all them years ago? Again, to make Money from his name.
Poisonous fuckin slag!!!!
Amazing artist and always way ahead of his time.
Even his stuff in the 80's (lets dance, modern love etc) was brilliant and hooking up with Nile Rogers produced some KILLER Bass lines.
Randon fact.....
The myth about his different coloured eyes is just that..... a myth.
He had a permanently dilated pupil after his mates ring scratched it when they were fighting over a girl in school.
Legend RIP
I just saw the video for his new track Lazarus from his new album.
He's basically telling people he's gonna die.
Freaky video.
Your always gonna get loads of people posting on social media when someone famous dies but i have never seen literally every post on facebook today about one man before.
There's a brilliant tribute to him by a dj who has two vinyl copies of "Let's Dance" in the mix and scratches/mixes them up old school hip hop style.
Wicked stuff!
The famous face that brought European postmodernism into the mainstream psyche.
To get through the demons he did in the 70s and 80s was amazing.
It is almost too cliche, as so many misuse the phrases; but he was iconic and arguably a genius.
RIP legend. Shocking news and no pictures of him recently?
Timeless songs

There have been pictures but carefully taken and even with the last albums no interviews. Maybe since the heart scare in 2004 he has faced other set backs and then the cancer that took his life. Bowie gave so much in those last few years with a lot of songs. The new album feels a little like Closer in that the writer is explaining that this is the end. I didn't see it. Bowie was thin and you hear breathing on the album that wasnt there before but the vocals are strong so you just think it is age. You dont think 'He's dying' but he was. This has knocked me for six really. Will take a while.

David Bowie’s final photographs | Consequence of Sound
Rest easy legend and thank you. What gets me is what strength and even loneliness it took to suffer with cancer over 18 months and not say anything. Its the exact opposite and way of society today.
Damn he looked good in those photos. Hell of a talent.
What was David Bowie's last hit?"
........ morphine, probably
;D
Badum-tish
Isn't it strange the way someone dies and suddenly everybody becomes a fan. He has something like 26 albums racing up the charts. 'Everybody knows me now' indeed! Still, kind of cool that Bowie is getting out there and if it can change more lives, then that is great. I've been a bit down after the death, but I finally sat down and listened to the new album properly and it is excellent. I also love how Bowie has had himself cremated already as he didn't want a fuss. It's not just the music, but a code of conduct. Bowie is someone to admire because he seems to have been a really cool person as well as the greatest musical artist in music history. I don't say that lightly, his body of work is unmatched. Also a hysterically funny person too. Some are talking about other tracks made before his death and about what is in the vaults, but I am happy with what we have. It is a great body of work and even if you are not a fan I am sure you would find something in there that you do like simply because of the range of the work.
To know that Bowie wanted to start work on another new album only a week before his death shows his incredible commitment. He had 5 songs ready and said 'one more album', but then he got sick and it was the end, but to know that was on his mind, is just extraordinary. I was really upset earlier in this thread, but now I feel strangely positive knowing Bowie went out on his own terms and that he spoke to his fans through the art.
Keep hearing about this now: him and nearly every other star from those times: Beatles ,Zepplin,Stones dont know of any that didnt have something dark in the groupie closet.
The Complicated Sexual History of David Bowie
Rock star has sex with women ...... Shock horror!!! ;)
At 15 when he was in his 20's its still Pedophilia. Jimmy Page had the same girl locked away for a year so he could use her and not get caught out for it too. That was par for that course back then but really
you guys may as well Let Rolf Harris out if that how you all feel about groupies.
one of the all time greats. Very sad news from one of his biggest fans.
I like this story as it helps show up a rather pretentious industry, where no one has the confidence to say: "I have no knowledge of this" whilst showing Bowie's mischievous side and ability to sell his brand.

I've not posted in this thread purposely up until now
Bowies death has absolutely crippled me, if David Bowie can die then anyone can, when I found out he'd gone I just sat one the edge of my bed at 6:30am questioning everything, Bowie, how the fuck can he be dead???
I text my dad and told him, he didn't believe me, I text my mate and he was just as shocked as me, then I started getting texts from loads of people who knew how much I loved him, I was fucking gutted, for the last week or so I've been in mourning, its horrible, I thought when Lou Reed went I was crippled but old Lou has nothing on Bowie.
Yeah he did some shit but up until diamond dogs you can't say a bad word about him, and I have always put labrynth in my top three films of all tim.
The goblin king has passed, I just hope that now sarah, Ludo and Hoggle can breathe easy
And the other thing about Bowie's death, I can;t believe that I havent heard Mott the Hoople mentioned anywhere, HE GAVE THEM ALL THE YOUNG DUDES FFS
This weirdly reminded me of .........

Funny that this thread should be resurrected now, I've been listening to Bowie pretty much exclusively over the last few weeks, I can't stop listening to Station to Station and Heroes.
Strange to thing that soon it'll be 3 years since he died.
Also 2 years for George Michael.
Lots of great albums, but Station to Station is the one I return to most. How you come up with something like that is beyond me. The guitars howl and scream, the vocals otherworldly, the subject matter dense and dark. I consider it a twin album of Blackstar which I think comes from a similar place. They are both staring into the abyss albums with long title tracks, fewer and longer tracks, and a real longing to connect in some way.
It's funny how time changes you, when I was a kid it was Ziggy Stardust, Man Who Sold the World and Hunky Dory, these days it's Station to Station, Heroes, Diamond Dogs and Blackstar.
One thing for Bowie is that he spanned all genres.
Special shout out needs to go to Mick Ronson as well what a guitarist he was.
Yes but George Michael he could sing.
Love a lot of Reed around that period too. Reed was far more hit and miss than Bowie, but Transformer and Berlin were sublime. Also Coney Island Baby from the 70's was great.
Ronson doc was 'Besides Bowie' or something like that.
I also think Iggy's 1977 albums were excellent. Who writes the music for 4 albbums in a year? Freaky.
4 years ago today that Bowie went.
I think I'll be having a Bowie marathon along with my Stella tonight.
She will love it. Even my wife enjoys the music of Bowie. There is something in that back catalogue for everyone. For me lately it is Diamond Dogs. The ballads on there are sublime and I love the cut up lyrics and concept. Utterly bonkers but crystalline in its dark decadence. You feel Bowie edging to the precipice that lead to Station to Station. I tend to skip Young Americans. That's the weakest of the 70's canon for me, but if they had kept in the outtakes it is up there again. Still a decent album. STS is almost supernatural and otherworldly though. Maybe my favorite, but then there are all those other classics. What a back catalogue. The best of all time for me.
You get bands like The Stones repeating and doing it worse each time, then you have someone like Bowie who always tried to take it a little bit further or do something different. I would be very shocked to see any of those legends produce a Blackstar. Such a strong album and so fresh sounding. Ridiculous really.
