Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
"The retired welterweight claims he could sink Saul (Canelo) Alvarez’s May 7 middleweight title fight with Amir Khan at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with just two phone calls: One to Angel Garcia, father of welterweight titleholder Danny Garcia. And the other to MGM Resorts, which operates T-Mobile together with the Anschultz Entertainment Group.
In Mayweather’s hyper-competitive mind, he believes he could coax MGM Grand officials to cancel Alvarez-Khan in favor of a bout between himself and Danny Garcia. ....."

Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
The mayweathers and the garcias... there isn't a stadium built that could hold that much mouth.
At least fight fans would have the undercard. The difference here is that more people would rather watch the probability of khan having his mouth shut and being humbled by a middle weight slugger rather than the improbability of Garcia (that was already had his shine taken by Herrera, Peterson, Guerrero) landing anything of significance on mayweather.
Mayweather's just fantasizing about how much people want to see him win #50... no matter who its against. Even though he has nothing to fear his timing is kind of stupid-- just makes it look like he resurfaced with with the urge to fight right after khan was obligated to fighting 'nelo...

Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
Floyd is the biggest egotistical prick there has ever been and that includes Khan.
You can tell Floyd is hurt that no one cares about his 50th fight. He thought he could write his own cheque for that fight but he is boring and I hope no mug pays him for his return.
At least we know he wants Garcia for his return fight. Manufactured fight which means no one gets a decision over Garcia because he is being St up for Floyd.
-
He skewed the nearby weight divisions just by sticking around. Tatie bye FM

Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
Mayweather is getting worse after retirement. At least when he fought he could focus mostly on his fights and we didn't have to hear much about his political of philosophical views. Now he is just running his mouth because he doesn't have the spotlight anymore.
Unlike many people, I was a fan of mayweather the boxer. I was never a fan of mayweather the person though. Now that he isn't a boxer, I just don't like him.
-
Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
When I read the thread title I had a fleeting thought that Floyd might mean he'd call Khan and say....
"Ok, I'll fight you now."
Regardless, boxing is full of loud-mouths, prima donnas, and deluded individuals.
When there's a lull in the action, we still get "entertained" by the B.S. that comes out of their mouths.

I'm a massive floyd fan but its obvious he does miss the attention.
I was disgusted at the prices for his meet and greet in london and I'm not as bothered about the 50th fight anymore as its obvious it will be garcia.
Garcia is an al haymon fighter and it makes sense from their side to be greedy just like bob arum is doing with pac vs bradley.
Floyd might have that hopkins gene and could happily take off 2 years and make a comeback...what else is going to make him this much money.?
-
Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
Floyd meet and greet has been crap. Venues have not sold. He has more money than he can ever spend but it does not mean anything to someone who has major self esteem issues.

His ego will get the best of him and his hubris. He still is the biggest draw which feeds those qualities. He knows he still makes 100 million at least for 50. Seems to me that he's actually saying he is coming back for the winner.

That's the thing.
Hate or love him..he is still very relevant and could be for many more years IF he wants to be..
They (showtime) still want to pay him 9 figures when he is ready so just think of the money he must generate when he puts pen to paper.
Floyd can still clean up the porter/thurman/bradley/garcia era as jumping up in weight makes no sense at this stage.

I could see him try and claim it as fighting for the middleweight title. Triple G gets done over again.

The thing is that boxing fans are very selfish..
When floyd is doing an interview do we all really care what other stuff he has in the pipeline?..all we want to know is when is he fighting next!
Its great to see a prospect like errol spence but he is yet to be tested..i always knew jleon love was missing something and I can't see him returning.
So mayweather promotions is a young business and steadily growing but we still want to know who and when floyd is fighting next...why do we still not want floyd to retire?...do you want to see him loose or are we just addicted to his skills?..how is he different to any other fighter that retired in his prime?

Whether one is a Floyd fan or not, the meet and greet is pathetic.
@ruthless rocco could score some major credibility points here by agreeing.
Unfortunately, the only thing we're going to get out of him is another T.B.E.
-
Add the fact that no one else is calling Floyd out anymore. Floyd's ego is obviously taking a hit.
It's like dumped boyfriend who decides to stop desperately calling his ex and move on with his life and even find some other hot chick. The ex-girl notices the calls stop and finds out about his new flame.......NOW she becomes vocal.

Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
I've read and seen more of Floyds fat mouth since he "retired" than I had over his last two years active..ish. Fact that he's talking about a guy in Khan who looks at him with the misting eyes of boy band wonderment and a guy he has already beat just yells look at me.
What's sad is thinking Canelo v Khan floats in the first place. Turds and dead bodies can float ffs. Doesn't mean we anticipate or watch them for hours.
-
Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
If the people around him are smart, they'll invest his money and keep him away from it. The man's ego will cost him in the long run. Spending money to get noticed, to make himself feel better, to prove he still has as much power and stroke as he thinks he does. He's been in tax trouble once already. These things tend to happen in patterns. T.B.E could mean TOTALLY BROKE, EVENTUALLY... if hes not careful.
-
Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
I figured he was maybe responding to Khans "I would have fought him for free" spiel. Not sure who has less of a clue between the two of them, but I don't doubt it might actually have worked in shutting Khan up so whatever.

TBE should retire peacefully then and leave boxing. He is just upset no one has offered him silly money for his 50th fight. That is funny. Any amount less than he got against Fanny Pac is an insult to him.

Floyd says a lot of crap. I guarantee Floyd will come back. He is an egotistical wanker who is a shit person in life. People like him need attention to make up for his small prick.
You get ready for I love Ross avatar/sig.

Maybe Floyd should follow RJJ's lead and offer fans money to fight him. :)

I would do it but for free obviously I am not paying that twat for the privilege of beating him up. :)

Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
I hope he never returns. Just stay retired and fade into obscurity.
I cant wait for Pac to retire also. After choosing to fight bradley again I could care less to watch him fight ever again.

Yeah and why would he inject himself into the mix unless he had intent. The thing is, this was probably already the game plan. Ray Leonard is a thorn in his side for many reasons. He's probably heard his entire life how he'd never beat Hearns, Duran or Benitez. But the big thing was Ray coming back to beat Hagler after retiring for 3 years.
This move imo was and is strategic and premeditated. He knows that the weight is inconsequential. Alvarez will be the same weight he was in their first fight regardless of the scale-off. Even if Alvarez decides it would be at 155, his fight time weight will be the same and Floyd already beat that version with relative ease. I'd wager they don't announce it at 155 and leave it at 160. Floyd would simply weigh the same as he did in the first fight cause it makes no difference. Its all about appearances. Most casual fans will buy it hook, line and sinker.

Just spitballing, but what if his meet and greet tour isn't going so great and he decides to throw this out there to get the most he can now for #50 before the price drops any more. And what if he decides to try and get the winner (canelo) and preempt GGG's unification as a slight , there by feeding his own ego... He'd get 50 by beating a guy he already beat and get his money and retire again (drop the middleweight belt, not have to fight Golovkin).
It's funny. For someone who once claimed that judah "talked about it while, I (Floyd) be about it" , he's never STFU since he retired (and stopped being about it).

I'm sure the timing of this is all just coincidence like Khan chasing him the last two plus years. He might as well have just said he's challenging the winner. Can you imagine if Khan transformed and somehow pulled the rabbit out of his ass? "And the new lineal, Ring, Wbc middleweight champion of the world Amir Khan"
Floyds probably had this planned pre Berto.

Re: Mayweather boasts he could sink Khan-Canelo fight with one phone call
You are giving Floyd too much credit.
If Floyd had his way he would have fought in May against Garcia for 15 trillion dollars for his 50th fight. However no one wants to watch the most boring ever. They would only be interested if he challenges himself and that boat sailed many years ago.

I agree. Take 49 with a less than stellar opponent, go on an international press tour and try to make more fans and more haters that will pony up when you go for 50... Its not a bad plan unless the tour isn't fruitful and you just realize more people don't have the desire to know you for a fee than the number of people who forgot who you were... but now a kid you beat is fighting the entitled kid you never fought for right to lose the belt to guy everyone thinks is a better fighter than you because they're more exciting inside the ring and more humble outside the ring.
Khan as lineal would be hilarious ... "tell floyd he has to wear 30oz gloves, the ring has to be 12 feet... and he has to wait till im done fasting..."

My thoughts exactly. LOL at people attributing all these convoluted, complex plans to a simple mind such as Floyd's. Floyd knows how to count money, how to beat on women, and how to make an ass of himself. "Pre-planning" anything is beyond his simple, narrow mind.

It’s not that big a leap. Every year boxing becomes more like the World Wrestling Federation. Its boardrooms are just like any other and when you are talking about the coin Mayweather 50 brings its not unreasonable. Apple works that way along with everyone else. Add the Reality tv feel which is what it’s become in many aspects and it’s not farfetched. And again it’s the WBC after all.

Well..... boxers are talking waaay more sh*t than ever before, so in that regard, you're right.
Trash-talking has been around since the beginning of man.
But the unsubstantiated crap that comes out fighters nowadays is enough to make any WWF fan proud.
