Fighters Whose Biggest Moment Was a Loss
What fighters can you think of whose arguably biggest claim to fame was a fight in which they came out the losing end? Of course you think of Chuck Wepner losing to Ali, and more recently Vargas in the Trinidad fight and Vitaly in the Lennox fight. Is there anyone else whose stock went up after a loss?

Richardo Torres comes to mind. He got a lot of props for the way he fought in his loss to Cotto.

I agree with most of those except DLH losing to Mosely wasn't his biggest moment. It would probably be either his loss to Felix or his wins vs. Quartey and Vargas. With Hopkins, his biggest moment was beating Trinidad.

Your right an argument can be made it could also be the Tito loss like you pointed it out. 'Tho I don't think his win over Ike or Vargas are in his biggest moments

but he came back in full after the loss to Morales, he had a long string of big wins and the fight itself was a very close loss

Re: Fighters Whose Biggest Moment Was a Loss
Ricky Burns has a bright future but his loss to Alex Arthur gave him a good reputation and it could turn out to be the best part of his carrer (although i seriously don't think that will be the case)

I don't think Tyson loosing to Douglas was one of the fight that gave him a "claim to fame". ???

I'd have to say Tyson's biggest moments were either crushing Spinks in 91 seconds or biting Evander.

Re: Fighters Whose Biggest Moment Was a Loss
I assumed that the thread meant fighters who are looked upon as being great or close to, due to a loss, not simply that they are most remembered for losing. For instance MAB against PAc or Nas against MAB aren't really what was meant,( I hope :-X). For biggest props in a losing effort, I would have to say Emanuel Augustus against Mickey Ward is a big one, although it isn't a real well known fight and he didn't deserve to lose imo.. Also Duran against Hagler, he kept it close the whole fight during Haglers reign as middleweight king. Thommy Hearns definetly, against SRL and Hagler.. Barkley against Duran, even. Ken Norton vs LArry Holmes is also one I would say. Gatti against WArd, first fight.. THere's lots.
