Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
What do you make of this? Lots of wear and tear since the first fight and not sure how or why Ortiz gets a payday off being ko'd 3 times and beating a lightweight since. Would like to see whatever is left of Berto challenge a deep welter division instead but they are on for late April.
-
Neither have done much over the last few years, but if they can make good money fighting each other with no belts on the line, good luck to them. It's their job after all.
I'd rather this than a Garcia v Salka for instance.
-
Good fight, but far less meaningful than the first.
I expect Berto to win and Ortiz to quit after getting dropped.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Fair enough, no better option for either and it's not like they are horrifically shot or something, no reason it shouldn't be another fun fight.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Will Ortiz quit before Berto tears a bicep or ligament
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
they're both shot, and neither full reached their potential or were vastly over-rated

Definitely the latter. At that time boxing was anxious for someone to challenge Mayweather and the talent pool was weak (outside of Pacquiao). So they they put these two together with the intention of exaggerating his value as a threat to Floyd.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
First fight was great. I expect this one to be a let down. I never thought berto was special. I thought Ortiz had the talent but we found out he didn't have the heart or the brain.
-
Ortiz is a quitter and berto is just a smaller jeff lacy?
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Ok this fight will not achieve the status the first fight did but it will be interesting to see what each has left. The first fight was a classic and Berto should be favourite to get his revenge.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
First fight was amazing to watch. Good match up rgardless of where they are in their careers this will still be an exciting fight.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
If we're lucky we get a rough copy of the first fight but probably it's more like an FNF fight where at least one of them has just turned up for the cheque and bails out at the first opportunity. I thought Berto was shot to bits the fight before Mayweather but I thought he looked decent against Floyd.

Berto is in better form currently. I wanted him to put some serious hurt on Floyd but it seemed they had an "understanding" not to hurt one another too much.

Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Man talk about guys that i thought would turn out better then they did. They both had so much talent but one lacked heart and the other was a rushed product they both did ok but man that could be so much better then what happened. The fight should be pretty good though they throw down a lot.

Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Blk Vs Mexican ? Interesting
But in reality. Mayweathers leftovers looking for a last big pay day.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Berto and Ortiz i do not think you could even call left overs because of the people they lost to before hand and must under whelming fights with with Mayweather that i have seen almost as much as Pac. I not am sure how big fan base Ortiz and Berto even have at this point to make the money.

Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Yeh I'm with consensus as they are doing what fighters do and its a convenient match with some history. Can't fault the either as its Al Haymon just sifting thru the in house recycling bin trying to push winner into another opponent role. Berto should have far more left and did sound pumped and focused in Tuesdays interview. Both were rushed to market early in careers and Berto is the poster child for a guy who's mistakes became a part of his skillset as much as a jab. I'm really not sure the other hand that Ortiz committed himself one hundred percent to the sport and fell in love with a cheesy smile and celebrity. Not to mention his chin is checked with the regularity of a ballot box and has suffered some kittens in his chest.

Love the way you write your posts. So true. :)

Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Perfect crossroads fight for both and the first fight was pretty damn good. I hope both fighters come in healthy and clean.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
This would surprise me if they came in as the old adage says that this is the one more good fight they have left. The only problem is what hapens after to either or both of them after that one good fight left in them.

That's just it. A win win for promotion as winner will surely be in 'name' opponent role. Today a part of me hopes Ortiz can manage a repeat though, he seems to think the welters are not on his level :-X. Pretty dumb pop off for a guy last seen falling ground level in last 3 name type fights.

Evidently Berto called Ortiz a fag for getn too close to his lips in a face off and now must apologize to the entire gay community as well as profess his love for gay people.
I'm not making this up.

I'm not making this up.
There's no place in the sport for such intolerance.

Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Well the pc Nazis strike again can not even talk shit for a boxing match are you kidding me. Not to mention why would it matter if he did not like them anyway i mean as long as he not hurting anyone why would we have to make him like something he does not this is the United States.
-
I'm excited for this match on Saturday.
I almost want to root for Ortiz. He's just such a fuck up male bimbo scatterbrain that I feel sorry for him.
I like Berto too and he's gotta be the favorite here to stop Victor.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Ortiz is a himbo? You fancy him @Hulk

Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
I don't know about you guys but I like the fight, I liked the original Ortiz-Berto matchup and I think this will be a good brawl too regardless of these two guys being afterthoughts in their respective divisions. Sometimes fighters need to have warm up fights, sometimes fighters need to have stay busy fights, but the fans win when those seemingly meaningless fights are exciting and competitive. Remember Gatti-Ward I-III? Those fights were epic, they didn't mean much of anything, but they were big time fun to watch. When boxing is making matchups that are exciting regardless of what's on the line fans will return to the sport. Matches like this have to happen so that the winner will fight a young up and comer or an established contender for another title shot but it's great that the styles mesh up well and the fans will have fun watching the fight.

A Blackhawks hockey player was suspended multiple games for calling another player a "fucking fag".....it's absolutely ridiculous

Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Ortiz is one of those fighters I've always liked. I figure this will be a major fight for him pertaining to his boxing career. Despite my like for him I did write him off a while ago thinking he was gone for boxing. I hope this will be the start of a come back but I won't hold my breath he has put on a number of good fights in the past and came very close to giving Floyd a major headbutt which wouldn't have been cool but it kind of would have been cool. Good luck Vic
I just put this and the Dawson fight on record as I'll be stuck at work this weekend

Agreed with this, Kabong and Spicoli. Sometimes fighters don't lose because they're exposed or shot. I think sometimes fighters lose because they dared to be great when called to task. Neither fighter passed their tests, but at least they took their tests on our time, not theirs.

Well he's no Robin Reid but he'll do.

Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Stoked about this not clashing with Showtime card. Berto sounds sound and profound going in. On side hope Chambers boxes the ears off Washington. Full night of fisticuffs!
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
That is cool, didn't realize there was a solid undercard for this, should be a pretty fun card. Really no overlap with showtime? I saw there is 2 hours start difference, any idea how many will be televised on this one?
I'm thinking Berto by TKO, Edwin Rodriguez by TKO, no picks on the Montiel or Chambers-Washington fights really. Haven't seen Montiels opponent, have no idea what Chambers has left and Washington will dwarf him.

Yeh set for two hrs and Showtime begins at 9pm here. Some odd reason hope Chambers-Washington makes air with ko in Rodriquez vs Williams fight. Liked Washington start of career but last out he's built like a beast but fought like a ballerina and should have lost to Mansour.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Looks like Fernando Montiel vs 27-0-2 Jorge Lara makes the air in opener
They are seriously pushing Ortiz in opening. Ortiz is singing Scorpions :-X Dude is touched..
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Wow, this is a mugging. Lara came out like a fookin bull possessed. 4 knockdown tko!!
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Did not expect that at all. Didn't think Montiel would win but didn't expect him to get blitz like that either
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Rodriquez figures to be much stronger than Williams but both hurt bad recently.
-
Re: Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz..again.
Bombs away ;D Both rocked! Something tells me Ward would fight Rodriquez another 5 times if he could.
