Just 5.

4.Barrera ramming Hamed's Head into the Turnbuckle.
3.Hasim Rahman vs Oleg Maskaev fans brawling
2.Elijah Tillery getting flipped backwards out the ring by Riddick Bowe's little manager Rock Newman ..when he witnessed Tillery trying to kick Bowe after the bell.
Thx palmerq
#1.Tyson dropping Berbick 3times...with one punch "We have a new era"
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
Great topic/post!! My top 5 are:
1. Hagler vs Hearns: first fight I saw and I will never forget the electricity or excitement that surrounded that fight. To this day, I feel like it was the best fight I ever saw.
2. Evander Holyfield knocks out Mike Tyson: I'm a huge Holyfield fan and I had been dying to see this fight for years. Evander just had Tysons number, in my opinion, and he confirmed his ATG status with me on that night.
3. George Foreman knocks out Michael Moorer: one of the most historically significant fights ever. I bet big and won big on George that night, only made better by the fact that he was such a stand up guy and a favorite fighter of mine.
4. BHop stops Tito: Hop is one of my favorite fighters ever and this fight was his masterpiece. No other fighter of his generation ever matched the display of skill Bernard put on that night (defense, jab, angles, brawling, inside fighting, outside fighting, traps, countering, punching power...etc.).
5. Roy Jones Jr. Obliterates Montell Griffin: on this night Roy was scary. Most talented fighter ever, and on this night he showed the world what his potential truly was, and how superior his natural talent was to the rest of the world. I don't rank Roy high on my ATG list, but the Roy from that night could've probably beaten any fighter who ever laced up a pair of gloves.
Honorable mention: Jorge Castro come from behind stoppage of John David Jackson. Most amazing comeback and display of will/courage I've ever seen. I will never forget the crowd screaming and the sheer disbelief when a horribly beaten and swollen Castro came off the ropes to land that monster shot. Such an impressive display of punching power and BALLS!!!
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
I can only go on what i have seen while alive...
Foreman demoliton of Smokin' Joe....it just wasn't possible, but there you have it!
Ali KO's Foreman...nobody expected that...
Duran V Leonard 1...the biggest fight outside the Heavyweight division
Hagler V Hearns....i mean wow!
Tyson obliterating Berbick announcing his arrival as invincible?
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
This is a list from what I saw during my lifetime (obviously)
5. Seeing wlad getting KO'd by Sanders. I didn't like wlad and never thought much of him but he was seen as the next big thing so I was sooooo happy to see him get KO'd. Then losing to Brewster was hilarious too.
4. Watching the first castillo-corrales fight. I wasn't really invested in either fighter but it was so exciting the whole time and then the ending made it epic.
3. Freitas knocking out barrios in the 12th round. I was a big fan of freitas (before he quit against corrales) and I had him down on my scorecard (even though the judges didn't but we know how judges work). I didn't want him to lose or get a gift decision. I wanted him to win legitimately. That last round knock out was awesome.
2. Morales beating pac. I was a huge Morales fan and hated Barrera. After pac destroyed Barrera, many people thought he would easily beat Morales. He was supposed to be the next big thing (which he did become) but Morales put him in his place for that fight at least.
1. JMM knocking out pac. I thought that JMM won the first 3 fights. The first and third I thought he was robbed and the 2nd was really close but I had JMM winning although it wasn't a terrible decision. I was so happy he could finally get that win without the judges robbing him again.
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
INPO
Hearns thumping Leonard for 13 rounds was both one of the finest moments of my time and also ending as one of the worst.
Calzaghe's spanking of the then indestructible Lacy.
Tito sparking Vargas
Jones v Griffin 2
Lennox stopping Vitali
Hatton stopping Zu
And a shout to Mab doing in Hamed.
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
Tyson v Berbick – New Era in boxing as he was my idol.
Tyson v Spinks – just glad Mike got the job done from the perceived threat.
MAB v Morales – Stayed up until 4 am to watch tired but just wow when the fight was happening. Just woke me up.
Benn v G Man – proper Rocky movie knocked down and then gets up and wins. Never cheered so much in my life.
Not in my time but Ali on Parkinson Show when he blew away Michael that was brilliant.
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
In no particular order.
Ali winning the title for the third time.
Berbick up down up down again against Tyson.
Kirkland Laing giving Duran a boxing lesson.
Hagler Hearns.
Barrera Morales 1.
Benn McClellan deserves a mention too. Like Benn says, it was his Rocky fight and would have made him a superstar had it not had the tragic aftermath.
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
There are some good ones in this thread though. A good recent one, Maidana battering Broner.
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
Seriously, you all think boxing history started so recently
What about
- John Heenan beat Tom Sayers in the first 'world championship' fights. The title 'world champion' is born and becomes the defining achievement of all future boxers and a proper money spinner!
- Jim Corbett beats John L Sullivan in the first boxing match under Queensbury Rules and with gloves, thus legitimising the sport and paving the way for it becoming a recognised sporting match.
- Jack Johnson beats up Tommy Burns to become the first non-White world heavyweight champion.
- Muhammad Ali refuses the draft and is stripped of his world title outside the ring, taking a political stand and getting the sport true worldwide mainstream coverage
- the Kefauver hearings in the States, which effectively removed organised crime from the ownership of the sport
That is all
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
Unless you are 100 years old @x it says your top 5.
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
Any wild moments...indirectly related to what goes on in the ring?
I stated one was Rahman-Maskaev melee..but I meant to say the Bowe-Golata melee.
Watching poor Lou Duva carried on a stretcher through the crowd, watching it almost tip over.
The fights in the crowd was WILD!!
The best press conference is a toss up between Ali-Frazier wrestling to the floor and Vargas-Mayorga!!! Vargas was throwing the sloppiest almost girlish punches.
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
Watching live:
Getting chased by Lou Duva
Minter/Hagler riot
Bobby Frankham attacking the ref
Lewis KO'ing Ruddock
Benn/EubankII
On TV:
Hagler/Hearns
Hearns/Duran
Duran/Barkley
The bite
Honeyghan/Curry
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
The 5 fights that I'll remember the most I reckon are
Benn Eubank 1
Benn Maclellan
Bruno World Champ
Calzaghi v Lacy
Moore v Mackin

Yes, well sort of; more 'his people'.
Myself and a few mates were around the back of Earls Court (using a 'shortcut' to the station), celebrating Lewis' victory over Ruddock, with a few too many drinks in us, when we saw Duva, who's fighter Meldrick Taylor had lost to Espana on the undercard. We started to take the piss, and Duva, who is not exactly known for his calm approach at the best of times, let alone the worse; called us all bums and started to run towards us, before his people stopped him and chased us off themselves.
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
A great moment that turned into a bad ending for women's boxing.
Ann Wolfe at one time was with a group called RPM boxing. They had a website that I was fortunate enough to get a couple of columns/articles on.
I learned from corresponding via email with the only woman that beat Ann named Valerie Mahfood.
Laila was asking to fight Valerie..who at that time wasn't champion. Ann was
Here is the stupid part: Ann gained another belt, so rather than fight her....they decided to fight Valerie again.
Her last email to me was that Laila was leaving the division to fight the HW Vonda Ward...yeah...fuck unifying the MW division.
In my article I mentioned that Laila was Vonda's next fight and called her out.
The top moment in history here !!!!!!!! Vonda Ward accepts the challenge..then states for a tune up ....I'll fight the girl you just ran away from!!!! Ann Wolfe.
So Ann is fighting Vonda Ward as a tune up....Ann knocked her the fuck out
.....Ann ...pop killed, Momma died of cancer...she was twice raped...homeless raising two kids on the streets...by age 18!
After Vonda lost and Ann won....Laila went dancing with the stars...and a lie claiming...there was no one for her to fight.
Out of the need to make a paycheck...Ann started a gym, where a fresh out the penitentiary...James Kirkland came into her life.
I think Wolfe has made a little more money from (boxing) as Kirklands manager than Laila All-lies and her sorry resume of fighting George Forman daughter, Joe Frazier Daughter and a LW Christy Martin outweighed by 20lbs.. no catchweight...
Side note Valerie Mahfood gave Ann a title @ shot 4-0....she avenged the loss. Sweet moment to see Ann win titles in four divisions...becomes a trainer with a fighter who never lost under her tutelage.
If anyone deserved to be called Ali...it's Ann.
Re: Your Top (5) moments in boxing history
Ali's virtuoso against Cleveland Williams
Riddick Bowe catching Larry Donald with a 2-piece at their press conference. Best and Fastest sucker punch ever. i SEE why a boxer's fists are considered deadly weapons in regular society. Whoa
Archie Moore's fantastic comeback against Durelle. That would NEVER happen in this era. Durelle would have been declared the winner long before the turnaround.
Spinks defeating that prick Holmes
Leonard/Hagler from the end of the 11th round to the decision. The excitement and surprise of Leonard's performance was absolutely amazing.
Angelo Dundee (after the 11th): "New champion"
Ring Announcer: "And NEW Middleweight Champion of the World"
Most memorable decision ever.

Yeah, that was funny, but hey...Donald took it well!!!
Leonard/Hagler from the end of the 11th round to the decision. The excitement and surprise of Leonard's performance was absolutely amazing.
End of the 9th? or 10th? When he combo'd his way out the corner...that point on to the end was epic
Angelo Dundee (after the 11th): "New champion"
I like Dundee's moment going into the round Ray stopped Hearns.
"You're blowing it kid...this is where we separate the boys from the men...ya' blowin' it"
Ring Announcer: "And NEW Middleweight Champion of the World"
Most memorable decision ever.
