I am looking forward to seeing andre ward, even if no one else is !
ooohh nice work from diaz in the second round, he wasn't so active and then landed quite a few really good hooks and uppercuts and did a good amount of damage i think. Diaz was cut by a good straight right at the end of the first round though.
This fight is pretty good, diaz is winning fairly easily but he is short and the other fellow is occaisionally landing some really good straight rights on him and diaz has 2 cuts.
Nice little scrap and style mix so far, Velez catching plenty but back in it a bit 5th.
No one has congratulated roy jones on his great win earlier on this month.... bad work hbo...
diaz and velez are slowing down a bit now, I think this is going to the score cards.
Wow... good scrap here. Looks like Jayson is headed for a loss here, though.
I think diaz won just about every round there but a fun entertaining fight. Maybe it is a bit worrying for diaz that he landed so many really good punches and didn't seem to come close to knocking out this fellow, I thought he tired a fair bit too as the fight went on, it will be interesting to see how far diaz can go from here .
Ward's fighting next. Let me go get my pinhole projector.
Diaz better learn to get out of the way! but showed great punch selection. Very busy bit stationary. Velez did well to hold up. takes way too many clean shots again
They ring walking yet?
C'mon Barrera! Kick that inactive ass.
Glad hbo could interview Seth curry rather than Kovalev there. Not like they are building anything
I count 101 people in Wards corner???
When did Ward say "I want to fight for a heavyweight title"? I like him even less now ;D
pedestrian first, Ward just sizing up
Ward pretty straight up over two. Best work for Barrera was three solid rights. Ward best shot last left hook at bell.
nice ... ward knocks him down with a short punch there. I like it
Pleasantly surprised thus far. Good effort and good KD by Ward... caught Barrera a little off balance, but good shot. Good trading near the end of the round.
That was some awkward power shot off the top of head, solid. He's free swinging inside but is eating some stiff jabs himself. Good scrap
Never seen a ref order a fighter to apologize???
looks like ward is settling into this now
Can't see giving any round to Sullivan just yet.
(I hate agreeing with Lederman).
Ward just boiling it down and showing some master class last few rounds. Barrera beginning to wonder more about what time the rental limo is coming.
Oh shit man? Ward with the low blow
I'd have to see that again, didn't look intentional, kinda funny the ref just calls it "vicious". Has been pretty clean for a Ward fight so far, if the fight were closer that coulda been huge.
SOG touching balls.
He seriously works the blindside with the beltline stuff, using some aged Hopkins kinship and that's not an insult ;D very physical here
andre ward doesnt seem to use his right hand much, maybe i am imagining it though, is he injured ?
Final round! Like to see Ward shoot through the openings, make a statement. Very sparse with the right
Ok Ward.... you won. Now get off your ass and go fight Kovalev.
my score card is 116-110 for ward :S although i dont think he should have had a point taken off..
good to see ward back in action, I think he certainly needs one more fight before he takes on kovalev though.
I'm with you guys wondering about the lack of rights lol, maybe Ward was worried about counters, he seemed to get tagged off balance after throwing it big a couple times earlier. Overall a good fight, Barrera is a physical beast with some skills, but fairly rigid and was to slow.
If this son of god shows up against the russian he'll get stomped!
Boring but impressive. Ward totally shut him down. FFS Barrera was still trying to go to the body the last half of the 12th round down by 8 rounds
The fight was a little shallow on output but Wards D was phenomenal dare I say Floyd like. Did the same thing to Barrera that Floyd did to 95% of his opponents. People that routinely throw 400 punches a fight or more get reduced to a third which they miss with. I think Barrera hit him in the face semi-clean twice in 36 minutes.Barrera was gun shy the last 4 rounds and the hesitance started back at the kd with Ward coming off the ropes. Never saw Barrera have to fight going backward before. Hope I never have to again. Ward fought a very intelligent fight and it was probably the most important win of his career given the circumstances. Ward showed no skill erosion at all. Put on a clinic really.
Who was more impressive today: Kell Brook or Andre Ward?
Ward beat a fringe contender IBF mandatory by UD.
Brook beat a fringe contender IBF mandatory by KO 2.
Sullivan Barrera: Boxrec #23 at 175 going into the fight.
Kevin Bizier: Boxrec #20 at 147 going into the fight.
Barrera is not on ANY credible top ten 175 list I've seen (Ring, Transnational, etc), but many are hyping him as a big win for Ward.
Bizier age 31 has faced slightly better competition as a pro and is younger than Barrera, who is 34.
Also take into consideration Ward resorted to illegal tactics (hitting after the bell, holding, and a deliberate low blow thrown with bad intentions). Brook did not need to foul.
Right, so now Ward has won and I'm pleased. But PLEASE announce your next fight quickly and get back in the ring. I have no problem him taking another fight with Kovalev, but please keep active.
