David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Who? This is like old school matchmaking before we got access to all the fighters records/footage. Just pick a guy with a pretty record that has zero substance to it.

Judging by this he's purposely picked a tall fella. Practice for what's next?

Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Yes, I had never heard of this guy so I looked him up.
He's only ever fought in the elite boxing hotbeds of Switzerland and Hungary. His last three fights were against opponents with a 20-4, 39-10 and a 6-0 novice.
What a fucking joke David Haye is.
I see where he is going ..... not a dangerous opponent to derail the gravy train, padded record and also he outpointed a Denis Bakhtov, who Anthony Joshua ironed out in two rounds. another con job from a guy who has never acted like he respects boxing.
I seriously hope this is free on Dave again, the traditional haunt of stale and dated comedians from another era.
I was going to try and slip in a good joke here, but I cant type properly since I broke my toe

Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
I said he wouldnt pick on anyone dangerous. It was a dream come true that someone as shit as DeMori had an actual fucking ranking from somewhere! It was like a ripe fruit on a tree ready to be picked. Hes going to sit on that ranking and fight people like this to keep himself relevant. Thats all he has ever done.
-
Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Hes fighting zsa zsa gabor...:p

that may well be his thinking, you're probably right. But if it is , I reckon it will backfire on him. During the time he's had out of the ring , new contenders and champions have emerged and he won't jump the queue by treading water. There's gonna come a time when he has to step up , because his current ranking won't get him a shot.
Also , although he's currently selling out the O2, even his most loyal supporters will soon want him to step up and they will get pissed off with this. they will eventually see straight through it.
The other thing is I don't know if he's got the patience to wait , and clearly nobody is gonna put anything on a plate for him.

I dont think its totally just a ploy to have risk free fights to have an easy title shot. He obviously recognises he desperately needs rounds. The fight against DeMori can be discounted towards making him sharp because it may well have litterally just been a punch bag! He needs to feel what its like to get in to the 4th because he will tire, he used to and now he hasnt had his stamina tested for 4 years. He will feel it and he knows that. Hes not taking on Briggs who can take a shot and punch back no matter how old Briggs is. A fight against Briggs here could end up looking identical to the Thompson fight.
Who knows, even Zsa Zsa might push him?

Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Except Chisora , Cunningham and wlad this is a better opponent than all the rest of furys by a distance
You never know, he might even beat Chisora and Cunningham :)
Who should haye be fighting?

A known quantity.
This Zsa Zsa hasnt fought anyone that we know could give him trouble, just like DeMori. Lots of wins over nobodies and somehow crept up the rankings with it. In fact Briggs has recently managed to do the same.

tbf I have to say I agree with Ross here. And it's a fair comment to say who he should fight.Purely based on ranking only, I would've rather seen Haye fight Briggs.
I know that's a joke, but that's the governing bodies for you , a Joke!

If you want anyone else, how about Joe Parker, Hughie Fury, probably both also makeable.anyone above him in the rankings. How many more do you want?
I'm not a Haye hater, but I think the aim should be to go up the rankings, and you can usually only do that by beating someone higher ranked or at the very least similarly ranked.
On another point, I've heard a rumour that Haye said he'll donate some of his purse to Nick Blackwell.
If he does that, I'll forgive him for this fight, and give massive respect to him.
BUT, if he now doesn't or gives a relatively small amount , then I will be the first to royally slate him for shameless publicity.
I'm happy to wait and see on that score.
-
Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Neither Parker nor fury would fight haye now
Or they would be very difficult fights to make at least
Top fighters don't fight top fighters every time they fight
Fury fought nobody, then fought Cunningham then fought a nobody then fought Chisora then fought a nobody
-
Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
at least the nobody haye is fighting isn't a nobody with a shit record

As long as it is free Haye can fight Joe Bugner for all I care.
David is being busy, active and filling stadiums.
Lovely jubley.

Nothing much changes does it? At least it will be some brits doing it for the next few years, we might even get it on free telly!

If he fights Joe Bugner I'll be there!!!! I'm his No. 1 UK fan (alright he's my age). Memorabilia a speciality.....

I'm not going to call the Gjergjajgergagjeraj bloke a bum, I'm not going to knock him at all, other than his name is unpronounceable I don't have anything against him and you can't really blame him for his name.
His opponent though is a cunt

The reason ive been calling him Zsa Zsa as its close to how iv heard his name pronounced.

Shannon Briggs was up to his usual tricks again. This time calling out David Haye as his latest press as long as he passes his brain scan.

Just listened to the press conference . He's giving 10% of the gate receipts to Nick Blackwell. That's a pretty substantial gesture in my book. Fair play to him, credit where credit's due.
I understand some cynical people will say it shameless publicity, and that's their opinion.
What I would say is we all know he doesn't need to do that , he'll sell it out anyway.

Haye markets himself very well, he also promotes himself, he can also box a bit, whats not to like?

Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Hayemaker Promotions have confirmed that Sheikh Fahad Bin Khalid Al Thani, a member of the ruling family of Qatar and the country’s first ever professional boxer, will make his debut on the undercard at The O2.
Al Thani fights at super lightweight.
If I was a cynic I'd say there's money in this.....

Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
People are knocking him for fighting this fella but the only viable alternative that we can come up with is Shannon Briggs

Briggs won't get sanctioned by the BBBoC either, so that counts him out
-
Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Briggs is not the only viable contender.
Or are you just talking name value?
Plenty of fighters with better names on their records, even unbeaten fighters.
Listen to Hayes interview in IFL, he says the same thing the Furys have been complaining about for years that fighters are pricing themselves out.
-
Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
There has still only been 1 name mentioned in this thread
Sounds like we all agree it's a decent opponent considering the options :)

Now , now Eric, let's not twist the truth. ;) I gave Hughie Fury and anyone in the rankings around him, that could be any of the below. I can't say they're all available but I'm sure one or two will be.
Fres Oquendo
Andrey Fedosov
Antonio Tarver
Johann Duhaupas
Michael Wallisch
Edmund Gerber
Malik Scott
You could also add Steve Cunningham or Bermane Stiverne for Name Value.
now Ross mentioned about Haye and Fury being priced out of it. well tbh, they make think they are being priced out, but its a supply and demand market. Maybe they have their pricing wrong and maybe they need to start paying a bit more.
I'm not getting at Haye too much here because his gesture towards Nick Blackwell is very admirable. he just needs to be careful he doesn't take the piss too much with his choice of opponents.
The guy is 29-0 and tbf he may be very good, but we don't know what those 29 are like.
I remember AJ's first pro fight. he fought an Italian with an 8-0 record. I thought "bit risky", but he blew him away in a couple of minutes!
hope this satisfies you.;D;)

Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Haye is cleverly picking his opponents , this guy is probably another chump.

Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
He should have fought someone better but I'd imagine there arent that many people lining up to fight Haye.
Very skillful, very fast, very powerful and he doesn't hold a title.
-
Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Fuck Briggs!
No WAY Haye fights him - Ever ;)
It's pretty obvious that Haye doesn't want to take too big a risk and is simply gonna tick over every few months while packing 19,000 into the O2 Arena everytime he fights until Joshua wins a world title then he can jump straight into a HUGE title fight at Wembley Stadium against Joshua in front of 90,000 fans on Sky Box Office and hit the Jackpot £$£$£$£.
I doubt he cares if he wins or loses that fight as he'll make Millions and be set for life.
Joshua knows that's the biggest payday he will ever get and so does Haye and no other 2 Heavies in the division can generate that kind of money.
That fight will 100% happen and even if Joshua loses to Martin it still sells out Wembley Stadium.
Biggest money fight in the division bar none - Fact
And let's be honest here what fighter on this Forum gets the most attention?
Haye does.
What fighter gets the mosts posts per thread?
Haye does.
Who is currently the most talked about fighter on here?
Haye is.
Just look at the amount of posts the guy gets in any recent thread about him since his return ;)
Donating 10% of ticket sales to Nick Blackwell = Kind gesture/Genius marketing.
He's all over the UK newspaper sports pages every week in some way or another again because he is a master at self marketing and always has been.
You lot really need to think a bit more out of the box to see what Haye is up to ;)

My one post about David Haye for this year. He's the HW version of Broner.
A waste of time.

Re: David Haye-Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj - May 21/London 02
Can't knock a guy for staying active after sitting on the bench for so long. He's just hammering a doormat here but at 6'5 and undefeated there are even worse jobbers he could have picked.
This is really about being seen..and heard..on the same night as Wilder vs Povetkin.
