Lucas Matthysse Admits No Desire To Fight, May Not Return - Boxing News

Hopefully he has put his money to good use and can stay comfortable in whatever is next for him. It is a shame, he was good to watch and a nice fella.
Did he ever get big check?
That's to bad if he never got a big payday, he looked like such a killer for a while and was never in a bad fight, but never quite put everything together in his big chances. I'd still love to see him fight Maidana, even if its a battle of two guys who don't care about boxing anymore;D
Hate to see him go as he's always come off down to Earth and must see competitor. Really though it's oddly refreshing hearing a guy get in front of it and be straight instead of knowing it wasn't there before the bell and simply lending his scalp for coin. Theory is if he's talking about it, maybe its just a time off thing. Helluva battler!
He was a fighter that I kept expecting to make it to that next level but never did. Good fighter though and always exciting.
Had he beaten Garcia soundly, it would have been Matthysse against Mayweather instead of Maidana. That was the plan anyway
He was never the same after suffering the eye injury against Garcia. Think in every fight since you can hear the corner telling him his eye is fine, it clearly bothered him big time.
He might not have made millions but he seemed pretty content about raising his daughter and setting up his own gym.
What a puncher.
Have to hand to him and his compatriot Maidana for getting out when the getting was good, Maidana no doubt with the bigger account balance. I think the boxing establishment fell asleep at the wheel in not matching the two of them. They must have had a silent agreement.
Plus he'll make a killing on the exchange rate if he lives out the rest of his life in Argentina, outside buenos aires. After the provo fight, he made 500k for Postol. (1 USD = 14.5560 Argentinian Pesos). So lets say he walks away with about half after paying his promoter, trainer, etc etc. (Chances are it might be a little less) . 250k in usd would give him 3,639,000 Argentinian Pesos.
It just seems he needs a long rest and needs to recoup his batteries to get his hunger back.
I am a fan of Matthysse so when I recently read on this site how he feels, I was but at the same time was not surprised. Throughout the history of boxing in South America and other Latin Countries in passing, the boxers in Argentina boxed as macho fighters do as in the country of Panama like Mr. Hands of stone. The word champion does place a heavy burden on these smaller fighters. Mr. Monzon was a hard act to follow and Nicolino Loche and others and the list is not short would give fits to others who call themselves champions. Lucas belonged there but made a couple of classic mistakes. Tito fan mentioned Lucas had sick power in either hand and underrated boxing skills as per the example of Roberto Duran-Dejesus 2. Master says the guy needs to take time off. I agree! Sometimes relaxing and counting your blessings is a good way to restore your batteries and priorities. The man in a macho boxing setting forgot the name of the sport is boxing. I was reminded of the great Pernell Whitaker that speed creates longevity and supplies power when it is needed and MR. Hurtado found out, that man can hit. Lucas should remember that there was a man who did deal with speed until he met Ali, Sonny Liston. If one was to look at his old films Sonny Always used a text book approach and never took long unnecessary swings and never out of position. Too bad age didn't cut him a break or the urge to punch out cops. Lucas is in a good position right now because "Living well is great revenge." Should he come back, be calm and stay in your best stance and recover like Sonny. His jab should have been used more and exciting the crowd is OK but you have to watch your opponent and straighten your punches because it confuses the shit out of Guys like Garcia who think they know it all. If he decides not to come back enjoy you children they keep you sharp. Keep calm.
