Wlad controlled distance really well. He used his excellent jab when he was in perfect range for it, and his opponent wasn't. He closed with the big right, or sometimes the left hook, when his opponent had been manoeuvred into place for it.
He didn't like fighting on the inside, andhe didn't let his opponents throw punches when they were in perfect range for it. He got around this by holding them excessively.
I agree he held a lot, but he did it as part of his strategy of controlling distance.
IMO, anyway.

I think people are confusing the the two versions of Foreman.
The first was clumsy and wild swinging powerhouse. The second was more measured better footwork, strong but less energy.
Foreman also got dropped and hurt plenty in the 70's by much lighter fighters than Klitschko.

Next time, I hope he does the former.
Foreman had to power to knock anyone out so Wlad would be kinda fucked there. On the other had Foreman when he was younger was a dumb fighter with no form the guy got rope a doped by Old Ali and lost to fucking Young for god sake biggest underachiever in history of boxing. I kinda wish you could combine the smarts of old Foreman with the body of younger Foreman then you would have the goat.
