Re: GGG vs Canelo done deal
I was reading they just touched base and started talks today? Be surprised if it actually came off so quickly but Mosley is someone who would know! What can you say, all credit to Canelo if he takes this fight at 160 pounds. To go from fighting Amir Khan to GGG is comedy when you think about it.
Re: GGG vs Canelo done deal
I was just about to say 'September, that's fucking ages away' then I realised it's actually not.
Jesus where is the year going, I'll be dead before I know it :(
Yeah nothing boxing related in this post

I really think this is going to be a lot closer than people think and it could well be ggg toughest fight yet, I think golovkin is the favourite but canelo has some obvious weaknesses but a lot of strengths too, I think golovkins style suits canelo too and will make an excellent fight.
canelo is also young enough to recover from a defeat here, so I think he has to go for it at 160 !

I heard the same thing. I only hope if a deal was reached this soon, that Team GGG didn't do something silly like take 160 as some kind of concession made by golden boy and the agree to everything else they wanted.... light fighting in Texas, with Laurence Cole as the referee and 2 of the judges are from Mexico and the other one is CJ Ross. The fights for Canelos title hes probably going to enter the ring last anyway. Gloves? dope tests? etc etc. I hope they buy their own water.
Does Shane still have a stake in golden boy or did his wife take that too?

I don't think any of those things could tip the fight for Canelo unless it was a blatant con job. To me, if he sees the final bell it will have been to much of a shelling to give him the nod in anything that wouldn't be a publicized robbery, and they are both pretty clean fighters so even Laurence Cole might have a hard time botching this one. It could be that no dope tests is a clause and Canelo has an inside hook up for some A side meth, so I'll curb my bets.
Re: GGG vs Canelo done deal
No idea about Mosley either, I just figured whether he is or isn't still with Golden Boy he would likely have the scoop.
Re: GGG vs Canelo done deal
I'd have more faith if they took steps to enforce the weight limit rather than a timeline. It's put up or shut up time for Canelo and honestly to see what he is all about. Throw a wrench in with CW sticking point where Golovkin should tell him to get bent, or Canelo actually sacs up and quits being some imposter crashing on the sofa of the home.
on a side how is Mosley about to fight for a welter strap???

He had to give it up to take the Pacquiao fight.
Alvarez was over 175 in his last fight and probably over 180. Not the biggest guy Golovkin will have fought but pretty big and not too shabby a fighter. And Golovkin may have to drain a few pounds for a catchweight. Does anybody think we could get an Alvarez decision or is he just going to get too much of a battering/sparkage from Golovkin for the judges to be able to rob GGG?

I'll only buy it if there is a solid undercard, as I don't give Canelo a good chance to win.
Re: GGG vs Canelo done deal
Part of me doesn't want to put money in the hands of canelo and golden boy after then stalling and catch weight business. At the same time, GGG deserves a payday for playing the game straight up. I guess i cant put all the blame on canelo and Golden boy when half of it was Cotto too. Price will be the decider for me most likely.
Re: GGG vs Canelo done deal
I will believe it when I see it.
Canelo deserves a beating for avoiding this fight for so long.
Re: GGG vs Canelo done deal
See this is what i do not get Canelo was fighting in 154 and just won the belt off Cotto in november even if Canelo fights him in October it is still under a year which is about right amount of time. Canelo does not need to get time added for Cotto and Martinez because they did not fight GGG.

True but allowing Canelo to have the WBC title means it all counts.
Canelo has always ballooned in weight and had an unfair advantage over all the real light middleweights.
Re: GGG vs Canelo done deal
Look if you make the weight i really do not care i mean if he can cut down and not die i mean that just what rules are today. I do not charge Canelo with dodging when he got the championship in late November he does not get time for Cotto and Martinez dodging GGG does not make since.
Re: GGG vs Canelo done deal
I do not understand the hate for Canelo the kid is 25 years old and has a resume better then most in this sport i mean even guy he is facing resume is shit. GGG is great and is favored but the more Canelo is hated the more i kinda want him to win. It should be good fight but this is GGG first real opponent.

Really? Some think it is a big mis-match.

What all counts? Obviously Khan was a sham of a title defence, but if Canelo is going to fight GGG as it seems, what can you blame him for? You alluded in another thread that you aren't even aware of the Charlo brothers, watch them and tell me they look like smaller guys than Canelo? In fact what top junior middleweights do? Canelo puts on a lot of weight after his fights, but he's not actually a big man.

Holding the belt means he has to carry the obligations that the previous champ had. If you are not a middleweight, stop fighting for the title then.

Again, if Canelo fights GGG next, what is your point? Cotto started the 155 pound division, and apparently didn't have the same obligation when he was champion? I don't give Canelo much hope against GGG and would actually rather see him vacate and fight either Charlo or Andrade at 154 for the sake of seeing good fights.

Cotto did have the same obligations and stuttered she hearing triple G name was mentioned.
