Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV 7pm)
Afternoon all,
This card is one I'm naturally interested in because Andrew Selby's progress is going ahead quickly, and this fight night is from his backyard in Cardiff. The bout if for the British Flyweight title, and Selby goes up against Louis Norman in his fifth fight. Looks to be tailor made opponent for him, with a decent record but has one loss and one draw when he stepped up for the English flyweight title. First step up to a competitive bout for Selby, but he's looked dynamite so far and think he will win tomorrow.
The other bout is Haskins v Morales for Haskins' IBF Bantamweight title, and I suppose its interesting that its over in Cardiff rather than a hometown show for Haskins. Haskins' record is significantly better than Ivan Morales, but Morales has a reasonable KO record and all three Haskins defeats have been by KO.
Elsewhere on the card, cruiserweight Craig Kennedy goes against Belgian Joel Djeko, and undefeated Tony Dixon goes up against Paddy Gallagher for the Celtic Welterweight title.

Haskins is popular but it's very localised to his area and a couple fo neighbouring ones. Bristol venues only go to a couple of thousand bods, Cardiff a no brainer really.

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
As usual with these McGuigan shows it's been fantastically promoted, there isn't even any IFL coverage. Blimey. Having Eric Morales little brother is surely worth a push.
I had a look at Morales, he's certainly not his brother (obviously that's an unfair standard to judge someone by), but a young Mexican with a boat load of wins speaks for itself. He'll be bemused by Haskins style. Looks a good fight.

That explains that then...I didn't think the Ice Arena was much bigger, as its really a new place for the Cardiff Devils. Capacity is 3k for boxing, with maybe and additional 500 ground seats, so still not a huge venue. Sanigar does have connections across the bridge though...

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Stuart Hall has a lot of hate for Haskin would like to see that again.

Eriks little brother is going to over achieve on this one.
Ivan on points.

By the way...it has only just occurred to me...if you aren't watching this, it means you're probably watching the Eurovision Song Contest tonight. Don't be a @Master

Or match of the day.
I will be doing a round by round, it is free TV and therefore has me all of over it.
BTW talking of free boxing on tv Dave will be showing the Haye fight.

Dave Cameron's got it on? Let's all pile in to number 10, tell him to get the beers in and we can see if he knows how to use a pint glass.
Didn't think there was an MOTD tonight, as it's tomorrow that all the games are.

Yes the football is on tomorrow. Eurovision it is then.

Glad I tuned in on time for the first fight, Gallagher v Dixon was a one-round cracker. Dixon looked like a proper scrapper, and was doing well landing some good shots. Then, a cracking shot from Gallagher caught Dixon on the way in, and he practically faceplanted the canvas on the way down.
Fair play, Dixon tried to get back up from a heavy knockdown, but he stumbled backwards and the ref waved it off. Good little start for the card, and Gallagher takes the Celtic Welterweight title back to Belfast.

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
The sparkage shot looked like it caught him on the back of the head. Good stoppage

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
We now have Baby Jake Matlala vs Hughie Fury.

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Gotta love a bonus fight...Thorley v Dube, and I bet there's over a foot in height difference between these two. Thorley looking a little more cautious, but I'd put my house, if I had one, on a 4 round decision to Thorley.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
I suppose we can put this one in the books, not exactly a cracking fight, but Thorley clearly has the quality, while Dube is strong, but just a journeyman.
Thorley probably learned he has to concentrate a little more, and then work his jab more to keep the opponent off. As Richie Woodhall's saying, having the cut may help him in the long run.

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
I did not realise it was on spike TV! That was added later!

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Don't worry mate, I enjoyed the peace and quiet!
Long interview with Carl Frampton there, I'm not sure he is as confident about Leo Santa Cruz as what he said might suggest. Now time for the Tartan Tornado.

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Taylor's opponent used his pensioner's bus pass to get to the venue. Won't make it past 2 minutes.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Josh Taylor v Miguel Gonzales on now. Quality fight is finished as I type.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Seriously?
No interest in getting involved there at all from the Honduran, who the heck gets finished by a jab. Granted the guy was flinching from a few of the big rights to the body which were very good, that finish was embarrassing.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
I'm recording this, I've got the volume turned up pretty loud so I can hear it whilst I'm playing my piano in the other room, doesn't sound like I've missed much.
There isn't anything that really interests me tonight, I'll probably just flick through it tomorrow morning
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
The old boy was gonna dive on the deck the second he signed for the fight but he deserve credit for that dramatic feet in the air from a jab KO (the body shot finished him)

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Morgan Jones is looking like a world beater against this guy, although Richard Harrison does remind me of generic henchman #6 in many movies. Jones did kind of run away at one point, which didn't look too clever, apart from that it was very nice.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Jones looked good (reminded me of an Ingle fighter without the switching, might have been the shorts) although Harrison needed to go back to his bar stool at the end of the first.

Looked like he went straight from behind the keyboard where he was saying that he's got ample experience of watching boxing, but hadn't really done too much in terms of practical experience.

It was like watching Floyd v Gatti.

That'll be on his next press release...."Jones...dubbed the next Floyd Mayweather by some.."

What an awkward fighter he has herol Graham/Lee has in/naz style.

The key to star wars boxing from Richie Woodhall...
"You can't afford to be caught with your Han Solo against a fighter like Selby."

Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Selby is taking over now. He is class.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Selby is doing everything right against Norman. Combinations, accurate punches, good range, also going southpaw.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Norman has changed tactics and coming forward now.
Selby is still dictating the fight in the 6th.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
I hate to jinx him, but this kid is looking like a young Calzaghe. I'm not sure if Selby knows that Norman can't hurt him, or he has great confidence in his chin, but he's happy to throw five, land four and take two shots in return. Fantastic fight.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Norman stopped switching and had a good round. Custers last stand job though I guess
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
At the end of 7th, Norman landed a big punch at the end.
-
Re: Channel 5 Card - Haskins v Morales plus Andrew Selby - 10pm Sat 14 May (Spike TV
Norman needs to stay orthodox
