Re: What if you were Oscar
Well he i mega rich so he should give back to the fans that made him rich and make the best fights possible.
But from a business standpoint, I understand why he is doing what he is doing. He is just ruining boxing with it.
Re: What if you were Oscar
If photos of me in lingerie with things up my butt were on the internet, I wouldn't be to worried what people thought about me professionally either.
Re: What if you were Oscar
I'd try to make up the money I spent on shitty cable cards and lost with the coming of Darth Haymon by pimping out a manufactured superstar on ppv??? Oh and fishnets at sundown.
Re: What if you were Oscar
Mexican fans will still back a native son with 2 losses that fought with pride. Who will still back a champion talked shit, invited his biggest rival into the ring before punking out and handed his belt over... make the fight... this isn't a no contact sport where being a b*tch can be camouflaged. See this is not like they made the fight and canelo fakes an injury so he has more time to prepare. The issue is that once you make the fight you eventually have to follow through. The beat down is imminent and it shows you have no faith in your fighter to do this song and dance and then target much lesser fighters.
We don't f*ck around... marinate, percolate , m@sturbate.. rinse and repeat...
Re: What if you were Oscar
If I was Oscar I would feed Canelo to GGG and take options on Golovkin.
Canelo can get some pride back and start again as he did after Floyd.
Re: What if you were Oscar
After the embarrassment Oscar suffered finally having to admit it was him in those cross dressing pics he isn't too concerned what folk are saying about the Canelo-Golovkin BS.
But how Canelo can sit back and let his own countrymen disown him & label him El Pollo
The Chicken beats me. Mexican fighters have always been proud warriors, never back down from a fight etc. The Mexican fans say Canelo is not a true Mexican he is a man without a country. That is the biggest insult they could give to a real Mexican warrior BUT he has no one to blame but himself. After the bravado inviting GGG in the ring after the Khan fight & bragging I want GGG @ 160 put the gloves back on I'll fight him right now. Then few days later meekly hands over his bogus title. He'll NEVER regain any credibility now as a fighter. Maybe Him & Oscar could form a double drag act & maybe invite Pretty in Pink Cotto to make up a trio act

He made fun of Arum when Arum said letting fights marinate and then used the exact same terms regarding his cash cow.
I don't know what I would do from a business perspective. If there wasn't so much demand I would do what he is doing now but it looks like it may be backfiring.
Golden Boy always prided themselves on making the best fights but I understand what he is doing. Just not sure I agree with it. I do not think Canelo himself is scared and I honestly believe he has a good shot at winning. But if he was my bread and butter would i risk it?
What would you do if you had your only real star in that position?
You could have worded that better knowing that this is Oscar Dela Hoya. ;D
Re: What if you were Oscar
Canelo losing to GGG is not the end of the world, Canelo only turns 26 this coming July. Oscar himself took the risks when he fought Mosley and Trinidad, it wasn't even the end after the 2nd Mosley fight. GGG is 35 next year, he has maybe 18 months left. Canelo could fight on for another 8-10 years himself? Get this fight happening asap.
Re: What if you were Oscar
I think Oscar learned that boxing, is similar to politics: it is an entity designed corruptive from its inception. It can't be changed.
His early endeavors were good intentions, initially. Guys like Bojado to Ortiz were given tests we wanted to see. Hey....they came up short.
And I think Pacquiao fucked over DLH. Once Arum snatched him away..DLH IMO began thinking more like the promoters he claimed to detest.
Canelo not fighting GGG is probably the result of DLH's thinking in the interest of GBP as opposed to the fans.
If so, I don't agree with it....but I understand how\why he is running his Corp.

Oscar is then running it into the ground and shows no integrity. If GGG struggles in his next fight and Canelo is suddenly ready, that makes them even worse gimps than I think they are already.
Re: What if you were Oscar
I can envision a pro Mexican crowd turning against Canelo midway through the fight.

If I was Oscar I would shag all the hot babes, do drugs and squander all my money.

If I wwas Oscar I'd probably be doing a lot of cocaine

This is the one post where I'll agree with you. No way that ever happens.
Hell.... JCC Junior quit on his stool against Fonfara and the Mexican fans still back him.
If they can do that, no way they turn on Canelo.

I do not justify but where is it etched in stone that they have to be the most stupid?
1) Mexicans are not supposed to box and must come face first and brawl. ODLH boxed and the judges penalized him against Trinidad. A style black & white fighters are given high recognition for and Mexican fighters are castrated for.
2) Pacquiao never fought a top undefeated prospect. Pacquiao fought nothing but marque names on their decline. He always discredited their record based on opponents bringing little to the PPV stage based on body of work, same with Mayweather. So the Mexican can not do this?
3) common opponents help us as fans imagine result of PPV event and drive sales. GGG chooses to not fight a Canelo opponent and tear down what Canelo has built up by destroying his resume and creating a demand.
4) No Mexican could go 10 years like GGG without a big win against a highly recognized champion and have a rabid backing while trying to dictate terms against PPV champion.
5) Black , White and even one filipino PPV champion has dictated terms the last 2 decades. Not a Mexican
6) Hard to digest a new boxing world order with a Mexican PPV star?
This is more of a K2 issue having more to lose than GBP. All they have are the aging Klitschko brothers that have no PPV clout outside of Germany. K2 has to establish themselves in the Americas rather than ride GBP coat tails and try to dictate terms. K2 has no fighters with glamour or PPV stature. K2 HAS NO FIGHTER THAT HAS TAKEN A RISK!

Re: What if you were Oscar
1) Eric Morales was a masterful boxer that went against the mantra that "Mexicans are not supposed to box" and was highly successful.
2) Julio Ceaser Chavez Junior was doing the same.
3) GGG chooses to beat up the best middleweights available most of the time.

1) Morales made no money brawling his own countrymen until he fought Pacquiao. He had no business fighting Pacquiao the 3rd time having been destroyed by Zahir just before their bout. More confirmation on how the Filipino dictates more than the Mexican . Pac consistently fought big name fighters coming off a loss in previous 3 bouts for big money. 2) Julio Chavez Jr is trash earning off father's legacy on big networks not PPV. 3) Beating the best of a terrible crop of 160 ponders is no great feat

You'd find that you get over the embarrassment quite quickly but then you realise you've still got to make a living.
