According to fat Dan. Looks like he will push the GGG fight back to 2019 probably. IMO, this will lose him a lot of momentum. He has already fought two fights we didn't care about and now he will be out for a while. I'm sure he'll have an easy tune up fight at 160 after all this.

Where does 2019 come from? There was almost no chance he was going to fight again in 2016 anyways, but there are quite a few good fights out there for him aside from GGG, whether we like it or not. Does he even take one of the other guys next, is maybe the question. If he does move up to 160, Jacobs is about the only other guy he should be given a pass for, imo. Lemiuex is overrated and wouldn't stand a chance, but maybe not unlikely as he's also a Golden Boy fighter. I believe Jacobs no longer is?
2019? Now they're just taking the piss. GGG will be 35 next April. He has been fighting a long time with 350 odd amateur fights and 36 Pro fights. He will get old quickly and that's what Canelo is waiting for. This fight must happen no later than May 2017 or it's a waste of time.
I first saw this and thought 'fuck off it won't delay the fight by that much, but the way they are breast feeding Canelo it will be a lengthy delay.
They will probably give him an easy title defence at 154, then have a fight at Canelo weight, then have one or 2 at 160 and then move onto GGG.
so I think you could easily be talking about 3 or 4 fights before 'the big one'
Typically superstar fighters don't fight more than twice a year, so 2019 sounds about right, if Canelo decides to have 4 more fights before fighting GGG. SO that'll be 2 in 2017, 2 in 2018, and maybe it will be a May 2019 fight in Texas at 156 or 157 for the MW championship.Quote:

More Prestige - the days when the MW Division was the Blue Riband division of Boxing have long gone, it hasn't existed for decades.
Historically the MW Div was the prestige division because it was the average persons build , so everyone could aspire to it and more people would compete at that weight. But in the last 50 years, Man has evolved into a much bigger individual. That's the whole reason why the SMW and CW Divisions were created.

Agree with most of this, but just to nitpick, I'd say welterweight has always been the prestige division for the reasons you say. There are still and I believe have almost always been more active pros competing there than any other weight class by a good margin. When you consider how far from fighting shape the average person is and what fighters put into cutting weight, that's still closer to the average guys build.Quote:

I feel like I led everyone astray with my post. There is no confirmation that they won't fight until 2019 but I would guess it will get pushed back until then. I can't imagine his original date for next September being in play and I'm sure that he is only going to fight once before then. And he will want a fight with him probably around the same time so I would guess may 2018 at the absolute earliest but I don't think that happens.
Also, I think GGG moves up before the fight happens. He will get a bigger offer at SMW and take a fight there and then stay there.

It's not a serious injury, he will be pretty ok by beginning of 2017. As to fight GGG, if he REALLY wants it, I'd bet something around mid March, that would be realistic. GGG could easily pick up a tune up fight in the meantime, just to stay active. #hope.
