Nikola Tesla (1856 –1943) – American Physicist who invented fluorescent lighting, the Tesla coil, the induction motor, and 3-phase electricity and AC electricity.

The Wright Brothers (1871-1948 ) American inventors who successfully designed, built and flew the first powered aircraft in 1903.

John Logie Baird (1888 – 1946) – Scottish inventor who invented the television and the first recording device.

Alan Turing (1912 – 1954) – English 20th century mathematician, pioneer of computer science. He developed the Turing machine, capable of automating processes - the earliest computer! It could be adapted to simulate the logic of any computer algorithm.

Tim Berners Lee (1955- ) – English computer scientist. Tim Berners Lee is credited with inventing the World Wide Web, which enabled the internet to display websites viewable on internet browsers. He developed

All great ones. Imo people who discovered the principles on which so many inventions were made possible should make the cut, i.e. Pythagoras, ARchemides, Galileo, Newton and so on. For concrete inventions though a couple more I can think of..


James Watt- The Steam engine

James Clerk Maxwell- Radio, more or less. I think he discovered how electromagnetism and sound waves interact.

Louis Pasteur- Pasteurization, I believe he did a lot for early vaccines as well.

When you think of the technology around us it is pretty amazing. Technology has the capacity to do great good or great evil and in some ways it is inspiring, but in other ways it is just terrifying. Scientists just want to get things done, but then political forces sometimes take over and you end up with nuclear bombs. Man is a puzzling and strange species. It wouldn't take much to extinct the planet and all because we were just too clever and stupid for our own good. Man has such a tremendous capacity for good, but ends up making weapons of war and tools to perpetuate a gibberish economic system. If the bubble could just be popped and the technology be harnessed for good and good alone.

Ever heard of Jagadish Chandra Bose from India ? This is a guy who got zero attention for works on radio transmission. More names of non-whites would have appeared in the list of inventors.

They see an idea, invention, something which is common somewhere else, go back home, patent it and claim the rights. After that they become the inventors and OWNERS of the said product, no matter how many centuries it has been used by other people in their culture.
