And that's less than half of the people that beat him.

James Thunder was a big solid heavyweight who at any moment was going to win by knockout. Fun to watch, beat some decent fighters in Eli Dixon, Crawford Grimsley, Tim Witherspoon, and some others as well. Had some whacking KOs and had a name, face and persona we will always remember.
Jimmy Thunder, thank you man!
The real life equivalent to Piston Honda.

@Dia bando @Fenster @palmerq an entertaining fight for you all 2017---- not very well-known but a good HW fight.
I always like good heavyweight fights.....
I have a dog, it is mostly fearless but it is scared of thunder.... therefore I am pretty sure that makes jimmy thunder terrifying to all kinds of fearless creatures !
He got skills
His signature KO was a thing of beauty, but I think he got beat by Johnny Nelson who was basically having a bit of a giggle up at heavy.
@Memphis
In Nelson first ever HW fight.
That Crawford KO was classic!
got round to watching the videos, I agree it is a good fight, it slows down a bit in the middle but Jimmy thunder looks like he was a pretty entertaining fighter, seems like he was fairly slow but he was strong ! The 3 second ko was great... Sure thunder never made it super far but looks like he was a lot of fun and makes for a good highlight compilation on youtube... also he is the cousin of the rock.
Thunder was exciting, strong, and could knock you the fuck out or GET knocked the fuck out at any moment. I like unpredictable matches like that. Who wants to watch May weather vs Berto? So predictable!
Thunder was fun TV. He fought like a caveman honestly but he ran deep in competition very early on. Also holds the unique distinction of being only 1 of 2...maybe 3 guys to ever legitimately knockdown one of THE best heavyweight chins ever, Marion Wilson! He had a great run after coming to the States and the "win" loss as late sub v cruiserweight Wanyama was flat out bizarre. He was schooled though.
Just watched the Wanyama fight. I gave it to Thunder by one point. Wanyama schooled him good. But thunder threw double the punches and although 3/4 if them were partially blocked, he remained the constant aggressor. Then I watched Thunder vs Anthony Pulett. DAMN THUNDER GOT HEADBUTTED AND WAS TOTALLY OUT OF IT, but Jay Andy didn't see it. Purlett then landed 20 punches in the QUEER STREET Thunder.
It was the first time I saw it too. That was some head butt man that was worse than the one that Holyfield give Tyson in the sixth round of their first fight.
If Thunder would have been given five minutes to recover it would have changed a lot. Also why didn't he just take a knee?
like lots of former fighters, it didn't go well for Jimmy after he retired.
I understand he lived rough for a while on the street and then he was tasered and arrested after an altercation. That led to jail time and then problems in getting back to New Zealand because of the conviction. There are also quite a few oblique references about him being a bit punchy now too. :(
My old boxing coach once said before you throw punches first fasten that left heel to the floor that's what jimmy thunder was good at.
