WBC super welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga is so sure he will defeat Oscar De La Hoya on May 6, he claims he will bet a million dollars in Las Vegas' casinos. According to Mayorga, the odds have De la Hoya as a 3:1 favorite to beat him. He plans to bet one million to earn three million. "I will win, it is a fact, because it is the most important fight of my life, of the year, and the history of the Nicaraguan people," said Mayorga from his training camp in Miami. "I am taking things very seriously," said the champion, who just finish his sixth week of preparation. "I am in the toughest stage of my preparation. I feel good and I am only 11 pounds over the limit." Mayorga has been running early mornings and evenings through the streets of Miami. He does his gym work around noon for about two-and-a-half hours with trainer Luis León. "We are working hard with Luis León. We are very sure of my victory. Only people who doesn't know boxing think I will lose," said a confident Mayorga, who plans to use his natural ability and hard blows against the Golden Boy. "I trust my physical condition and my punching power. You all will see when the bell rings, that chicken will have no place to run," said Mayorga, who predicts Oscar will not last more than seven rounds.

So he's gonna get the shat kicked out of him & he's gonna be broke?
Poor Mayorga. Oscar's gonna smoke his ass like one of James Fat Ass Toney's cigars. ;D

Oscar's basically lost his last 2 fights, if you count Sturm. If you ask me, the wild, brawling Mayorga is gonna find a way to put Oscar on the canvas KTFO.

well mayorga himself hasn't looked impressive lately getting annhilated by tito and looking tired in the fight with Pisserelo, he couldn't knock that bum out so i don't know how he is going to knock oscar out. The key to beating mayorga is let him empty his tank by letting him throw those bombs in the 1st and 2nd round which gets him a little tired and then attack on, with his defense being as fragile as glass any person with decent boxing skills has a good chance of winning. That is what tito and spinks did. and in the fight with pisserelo after the 3rd round mayorga seemed to have slowed down but that bum was just too scared to get inside him

He said all of the same shit before the Trinidad fight ::**

Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thinking about it, what the heck is the point of this fight?
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think mayorga should try and get back down to welterweight if he can after this fight (if he wins tht is, but then again if he loses he wont have to worry about vacating the title to move down) i rele think it will be a great division soon with hatton and mayweather recently moving up and then uv got zab, margarito, gatti and there are some others who are not as much big names but are decent fighters such as baldomir sharmba mitchell and also kevin anderson looks a good prospect who could be challenging the big guns soon

Wow....only people who have take severe punishment to the head doesn't know English better then that.

... Look who he lost to... Bernard Hopkins and he put up a good fight considering the size differential and the skill of his opponent... Same with Sturm who is tactical and much much larger than ODLH naturally just staying in there with these guys for a whole is something I can't see Mayorga doing after what Trinidad did to him. ODLH outboxed Trinidad until he stopped fighting, and Trinidad outboxed Mayorga... I still see this with ODLH beating Mayorga who's empty pockets might be the least of his worries at the end of the night. This is one fight like the Lacy fight where I'll admit that Mayorga could potentially pully ODLH, but I don't see it because ODLH is faster has a stiff jab and very good technique.

i totally agree...Shane mosely too for one fight with PBF...i think even now that will be one the best fights ever...
Now Mayorga didn't carry his power all the way up to middle in the fight with tito ot mention he did the dumb crap of letting tito hit flush in the first round..that's why he was drained so fast not saying he would have won, but i guarantee that shat took a lot of his strength immediatly and regretted doing that...also oscar hasn't been in any good shape since the first mosely fight...the body shot against hopkins he took those all night back then so if Mayorga doesn't make the dumb asss mistake of letting ODLH hit him freely oscar might have a tough time with the bull...but i still think oscar will outbox him for the win, but i also wouldn't be surprised if oscar got KO'ed by a headshot because he's just due for one....

Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
im still not sure about this fight....delahoya's long spell of inactivity may very well play a part...i say oscar wins, but it all depends on how it goes in the opening couple of rounds...
i will be interested to see how delahoya looks...

Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell yeah. GO MAYORGA!!!! This is the most important fight of his life and he better realize it. He must be totally dedicated and focused if he is going to beat Oscar. The talent differntial is enormous, but Mayorga can chane all that with one good shot.
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it depends on Oscar. If he has trained hard and gotten rid of all that ring rust, I think he will win.If not,Mayorga has a chance.

I have to agree,it's Oscar's chance to win a belt from someone he probably percieves as a weak champion or someone he can beat easily?

Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yo The Game,
Let me tell you a funny story.
I was buying my first car about a month ago. I went to all these Phoenix dealerships. I wanted a small car, good on gas, and it just had to be JAPANESE. (I'm not Japanese, but they have a reputation for making long lasting cars with style)
So anyways, I go to this dealership, and I'm wearing my Oscar de la Hoya shirt. Yeah, they used to sell them about three years ago, at Mervyns. And right when I enter the dealership I see all the shark salesmen all lined up in front, kinda hanging out waiting for the next pray, me to show up.
As I walk up, one of them notices my shirt. At the time I was thinking about making my amature debut, heh. ... and
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
The reason they get all excited is
One: They know something about me; I'm a boxing fan.
Two: They have a dealer salesman who works for Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.
So as I tell them I may seriously fight, they get all excited and say, "You have to meet Danny, he knows Oscar de la Hoya." (Danny, or whatever his name was.)
But I'm here only for a car, so I end up talking and dealing with one kid. He tries to sell us a Nissan 2006. I'm not that interested, but I go through the motions anyways. I'm waiting on the couch. All I want is the interest rates, so I can make a good judgement. And they take forever, so I'm stuck with this kid who's talking about "Danny."
About how he's "in the ring with Oscar when they introduce the fighters in the beginning." And "you should meet him."
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not out of the question that this guy Danny, they are all talking about, actually does do serious work for Oscar. Yes he works as a stupid salesman, but he does live in Phoenix and Oscar does plenty of fights in Arizona. And he can't possibly lying to all these guys who work at the Nissan Dealership.
As I'm waiting for my car quote, on the couch, the kid finally flags down "Danny."
He's Latino, nicely dressed, looks like the part of a good professional business man.
Except when he comes over, and barely addresses at me as we're introduced. Not even a look at my face. Then he walks away. heheh
The kid, who is trying to sell me a car, is probably embarrased, so I talk to him like nothing happened.
Time goes by, and this guy "Danny" sits down, with nothing to do, since all those guys have nothing to do when no clients come in. So I try and start a conversation, about how good you have to be to get promoted, because one of my buddies happens to be a good amature. Barely acknowledges me, he says, "You have to be really good." As he continues to look at his cell phone text messages. And as I talk a little boxing, he acts as if I don't know who "Mayorga is." As if I'm trying to act like I like boxing, just so I can talk to someone who knows the great Oscar de la Hoya.
I'm still waiting for this stupid quote, we've been here for about an hour, and I just want to see a price for this car. I'm not even interested in the car, I just need to get a feel for all the prices for cars, so I can drive around other dealerships and make a nice decision. And so I say to the kid salesman, "I have to go." He gets all in a rush, wants me to stay, and some officeman comes out and tries to convince me to stay. But I FINALLY leave 15 minutes later.
And as I'm walking out, I say to "Danny" who must absolutely love Oscar de la Hoya...
... "You know... I'm going to bet against Oscar de la Hoya when he goes against Mayorga."
I shouldn't have said that. I could have caused a seen. But instead he immediately replied, "Your going to lose."
I'm almost sure I pissed him off. I shouldn't have done that. heh. They did have my credit card number. heheh But the guy was a total arsehole. I was with someone, when I was trying to buy a car, and they got after me for saying that.

Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Afterwards I realize how stupid my comment was. ;D
Oscar should win this fight, EASILY!!!
The only way Oscar loses, is if he has lost something in the bank. He is getting old, he hasn't won in years. But still!!! Mayorga's a hand picked choice for Oscar's style, not to mention one of the reoccuring Trinidad leftovers that Oscar keeps goes after.
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm guessing you think Oscar is going to KO Mayorga@? I don't know, I think the first few rounds will tell us alot, but either way, Mayorga's chin is one of his qualities and if Oscar does win, I don't think it will be by ko.

Lowlevel fighters can hang with Mayorga for 12 rounds. I'm sure Oscar can go on his bicycle for a couple of rounds and rely on his superb jab. He may be old, but Jabs usually stay with boxers.
I don't think he'll KO Mayorga. I mean... Trinidad just anihilated Mayorga's chin and body and still Mayorga only took a knee from a killer body shot.
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Delahoya is now a shot fighter. He is going to get very tired in the mid rounds and I think Mayorga will take over.

I agree, but Mayorga isn't his best either, after he took a life beating in Trinidad fight.
Also, if Piccirillo can go 12 rounds with Mayorga, certainly iron chin/veteran Oscar can make it.
???

I think Oscar can make it but Pich also went down three times and not even Cory Spinks a great boxer dominated him like that. I think this is a toss up fight as Oscar's temples are open. And using the man who beat the man(which I don't use) Mayorga beat a very good boxer in Vernon Forrest who figured out the puzzle that was Shane Mosley, something that Oscar was not able to do, and he also took the uppercuts from Forrest that dropped Shane Mosley which is something Oscar De La Hoya couldn't do at 147 or 154. So I think Mayorga will take the shots better from De La Hoya and the only way Oscar stops Mayorga is by going to the body and sacrificing the back of his head. Shame, because if Mayorga had a jab this would be a much more difficult fight for Oscar.
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who knows, maybe Mayorga will use the jab and surprise us all? Heck, who am I kidding,he is going to come out swinging for at least the first 3 rounds, maybe lose some gas? If Oscar's going to the body alot,Mayorga could catch him. I think it all depends on how much Oscar has trained and how over the hill he is.
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Picarillo survived against Mayorga. That is all. During that fight Mayorga did not stick his chin out and he showed the beginnings of a good jab. He fought smart and throughly beat and intimidated the guy, by the end he was just running. Also Picarillo was a former titlist, not some bum like you all make him out to be. Oscar is in for the fight of his life. It is do or die for Mayorga and he knows it.

Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
What happens if Mayorga loses??
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see this going the distance with ODLH getting the UD. I dont think ODLH has the power to KO Mayorga. Then again stranger things have happened. ODLH is getting older and has not been in the ring for awhile. But I think ODLH will win with the UD.
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then he loses much of his machimo, ego, and pride. Losing to THE GOLDEN BOY, who has had a silver spoon in his mouth since his first fight would be a huge blow to Mayorga's pride, it would be an absolute disgrace for him. And cement that all he is is a fall guy for the stars of the boxing world. Also it would end any chances of him ever becoming anything more than a flash in the pan as many haters have called him. This is his last shot at redemption.

What was different about the Tito fight? Oh that's right the part about this being his last chance... He'll probably retire after this one ;D
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fight was at 160, a horrible weight for Mayorga. He was in there with the hardest hitter p4p in the last decade, and it still took a hell of a lot to stop him, even with his stupid ass stickin his chin out antics. Tito was not a golden boy, though, didn't have the handsome pretty boy, sissy, image like Oscar. Losing to him hurt Mayorga's pride, but losing to Oscar, especially by KO would shatter it. Yes, he would probably retire if he loses, or coax that Vargas into a beatdown then retire, either way losing would be very bad for Mayorga's career and macho image. Hell he retired after the Tito loss remember?

He'd kill Vargas no doubt, and Margarito would be a really competitive fight. I could definately see him beatin Margarito, but it would be tough.
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
Margarito at 147,I'd go hands down with Tony!!! At 154,I'm not sure. Santos only survived with Margarito because he was nearly 14 pounds over and Margarito kept going to the body which was ineffective because he had all that jelly protecting him!
I'm sure I heard Vargas has ducked Mayorga on a couple of occasions!
-
Re: Mayorga bets $1,000,000 on himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Margarito could somehow defeat Mayorga at 147, which I don't think he could, it would be the abosolute toughest fight of his life. An aggressive Mayorga at 147 packs a hell of a punch, and his chin is nearly impregnable at that weight.

It would possibly be fight of the year. Would you pay to see it?

Yes, but 2-3 years ago, it would have been SOO much better than it would be now. Hell I'm payin to see Mayorga vs Oscar at 154, I'll always pay to watch Mayorga.
