Why don't we put our thoughts on this fight into one big thread?
Who do you think will win when they fight?
I think Thurman is a bit too fast for Garcia. Danny can rise to the occasion, like he did against Matthysse... but his stock has been on the decline as of late. It sort of depends on which Garcia shows up. I think he's got the skills and power to keep Thurman honest... but in the end I voted Thurman by decision.
Thurman he is the man at welterweight. Fearless and takes on all comers.
I have a feeling Garcia is going to win, seems like a big event fighter to me
im gonna check the odds now
This is a good fight and solid match up. I think that Garcia is the more skilled of the two, but would bet on Thurman by decision due to his size and range advantage. Garcia is a great counterpuncher, and fights up or down to the level of his competition, but he is moving up and he isn't as blessed naturally as Thurman. Credit to both for making this fight.
I think Thurman should go for the knockout. He can't leave it to the judges, because Garcia has had his share of gifts.
Let's see.
After the fight happens, let's revisit this thread.
Garcia will surprise everyone again..always the underdog.
That will not happen Thurman is too young and dangerous for old man Floyd
I think people dislike Garcia because they can't stand his father... which is unfair I know. About his style, I wouldn't say that at all. I like his style. Yes, he's under-performed for some reason at times... but when he's "on", he's fun to watch. And yes.... I say he's faced better opposition than Thurman. That being said, the move up in weight, and given Thurman's speed and power, I stick with my thought of a Thurman win by decision.
I think Thurman wins but I could definitely see Garcia winning. Thurman is quick and hits hard enough to make Garcia a little hesitant to throw a ton. The thing is though, Garcia does have a decent chin and he is pretty tough. Thurman has definitely been hurt before and is not the hardest guy to hit.
On second thought, I'm going with Garcia. It's a toss up but I've made my choice. It may change again before the fight though.
[QUOTE=imp;1413993]Have a word with yourself.
What is it that people dislike so much about Garcia?
I understand his style is not exactly easy on the eye, but guess what..he has the heart to always win.
How can anyone hate Garcia ? he twatted Amir " The Wanker " Khan.
I don't think Garcia is quite as bad as everyone makes him out to be. He'ds got decent counterpunching fundamentals and has used that to maximize his chances at winning by baiting and trapping faster fighters like Khan, by luring them into a firefight he knows he can win. Hes faced a softy or two while extending his reign and had definitely benefited from a decision once or twice.
The thing about thurman is he seems to enjoy talking the talk more than he does walking the walk. He relishes having natural advantages (age, speed, power) in there on some opponents and exploits those to the fullest. That's the idea... there's nothing wrong with that. Once he encounters too much resistance, he seems to reevaluate whether or not its worth the trouble to close a show.
So that being said i think this fight will be decided in the early rounds, with thurman picking at garcia and trying to build a lead. Garcia can be a notoriously slow starter till he finds his range and gets comfortable. So I think Thurman builds a lead over the first 4 or 5. Garcia settles down and lands something on thurman that gives him something to think about over the next 2 or 3 rounds and thurman losing points while he circles and thinks. and then Thurman gets on a bike and potshots down the stretch after realizing its not worth it to stand there and trade with a kid who's loading up an a hail mary shot. Just my 2...
Think the body work by Garcia will do a lot of damage to Thurman who seems to rattle easily. Want Thurman to not only ko Danny but his big mouth daddy as well, but keep seeing Garcia with a tko win.
Didn't realise there was a poll on this thread, so I put my tuppence worth in. There's a case for both fighters, but I'm going for the draw. Sitting on the fence? No, not really. I reckon this'll show how twisted boxing is, they both keep their titles and probably do it all over again for better money, because both will "claim" they won.
I think Master doesn't get enough credit for some brilliant humor. Or he believes those things and that's scary.
Can Thurman do enough damage before Garcia times him? Because we know Keith can't take it. Someone in here(J undisputed I think) wrote it out about right.
What I keep coming back to, regarding Garcia, are his performances vs Khan and Peterson. Garcia is very solid when it comes to technique, fundamentals, and counterpunching , but both of those fights showed me that he has to have his feet set to punch, and is troubled by movement. Khan got knocked out due to hubris/wanting to prove daddy Garcia wrong, but I recall him boxing circles around Danny prior to eating that hook. I see Thurman being content to get the decision and using movement to win rounds. Think Danny's pressure, better technique, and heart/will to win will start to come through in the later rounds, but will be too little, too late and Thurman will win an underwhelming decision.
[QUOTE=Dark Lord Al;1414021]I have nothing against Garcia
I watched him fight Peterson and I thought Peterson won, I thought that was a bit of a gift
I'm not arsed tho, Garcia v Thurman is a lot more interesting fight than Peterson v Thurman, so if Peterson would have won maybe we wouldn't be here today :)
I think if Thurman is mobile and uses his pot shot strategy to stay out of trouble he can avoid damage and getting seriously hurt on the way to a points win.
Thurman is going to KO Danny Garcia
Dawson vs Fonfara might be in the undercard
Anyone find it strange there is no VADA testing did this fight? It is a WBC sanctioned fight with their belt on the line in a unification.
Would anyone consider it a duck if Garcia pulls out if his dad is banned from the fight like he has said he will.
anyone know the odds
seems Garcia will be a big underdog
I think hell win
I don't think Angel gets banned either but if Danny pulls out for that reason I would have to consider it a potential duck. Angel should be banned from further press conferences or fined but pulling him from Danny's corner puts a whole new dynamic on the fight. I thought the WBC had a new policy against father/ son corners anyway so I'm not sure how that affects Danny going forward.
Garcia isn't that big an underdog - 2/1. I quite fancy him pulling off yet another upset, for no other reason than he's always written off, but a good point made in this thread about Thurman winning "boring" - remember ancient Morales taking the piss out of Garcia's slow feet - is probably about right. Thurman has the movement, size and dig going for him.
Angel Garcia is a complete and utter embarrassment, although to be fair he's so ignorant i'm surprised anyone gets offended by him.
I don't think it's a matter of being offended. These are supposed to be professionals. Fines have been handed out for less to fighters like Broner and his Mexi-can - Afri-can rant, Arreola with his f-bombs etc. Angel should face so sort of consequence. I'm sure Angel just does it to try and get under his opponents skin and promote the fight but good fights promote themselves!
On paper Lubin v Cota is pretty good test but Cota moves like he is underwater. Lubin still has some green streaks in the defensive department and should be a good one. Hoping Fonfara can put a dent or two in Dawson.
