Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Eddie Hearn says Kell Brook is most likely to defend IBF title against Errol Spence Jr and has admitted doubts about whether Amir Khan wants a British battle this year.
Hope this happens, two decent punchers so should be a great fight... Spence looks good so we'll find out if he's the real deal at elite level.

Eddie wants Brook to go to 154 but he doesn't want to dump his belt. Eddie hasn't heard from the Spence team since making them an offer. Eddie said Haymon/Spence must be ready to pay fortunes as Brook gets 75% of the purse bid.
Seems a big risk to go back to 147 after the Golovkin weight, if Brook does then fair play, especially for Spence.
Bet they vacate.

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Be surprised if this fight happens spence will fuck brook up easy people getting carried away by brooks last performance i think
-
re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Spence has that Julian Jackson kind of power , would really show Brook has some guts to take on Spence after fighting at MW in his last fight.
I think as someone else said he will vacate.
-
re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
I would love Brook to take on Spence and beat him. That would shows brass balls and Khan would crap himself.
-
re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
I wouldn't give up my belt if i was Brook, i don't think he can hold his own with the elite in the Middleweight division.
I think an on for Saunders boxes his head off, Jacobs beats the shit out of him too and even Eubank Jnr would beat him.
I reckon he knows it too which is why i think he'll fight Spence and defend his title - time will tell ;)
I think Spence v Brook is a seriously brutal fight so hope it happens.

Brook can hold his own at light middle though and I think that is where he will go.

Doubt it happens but it would be awesome if it did. It's just the fight that Spence needs to propel him to the top.

Maybe..... but the money fights are either side of 154 unfortunately for him ;)

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Well I'm not counting my chickens yet, but I hope if Brook stays at 147, he fights Spence. Now we all know it's a tough fight against a very good young fighter, but if Brook stays at the weight, he must be confident, also he'll be the home fighter, and let us not forget , he is the champion.
This is what Boxing should be about, a decent Champion against a great challenger. I know it's been a long time coming, but let's hope so.
IF they fight, and IF Brook wins, I hope he's given the credit he deserves (especially Stateside). We're not just talking about any old challenger here, we're talking about one of America's brightest young talents.
No point in making a prediction yet till it's official. What I will say though is if Brook beats Spence, I hope he then tells Khan to go fuck himself for once and for all.

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Brook looked solid at middleweight, can't imagine him melting enough weight off to see 147 again. If he is able to make welter, can't see him being effective (like Roy when he fought at 175 again, or Oscar at 147 vs Pac, or Chris Byrd back down at 175...etc.). Spence is the wrong guy to come in less than 100% for, he's just so damn fast and can PUNCH!!!
Props to Kell for even entertaining the fight, though. Brass balls for sure. I would like to see Kell vs. Charlo bros and Canelo at 154. Think those are his best options and he will fight best at that weight.

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Other than being his mandatory have no idea how close it may be. Really hope Brook doesn't vacate as it's a helluva match up for the sport. And secondly it means Spence would possibly fight Berto and as a result be charged with attempted homicide :-X. Brook would do well to take a step back fight at 147 if that's his route because a Golovkin beat down tends to live on a guy for a while. You do not erase that in the span of a fight. Spence has yet to face a top tier talent but in all honestly I'm beginning to attribute that to him and the sheer tenacious skills he's exhibited more than not looking for them. The way he varies the steam on combinations is simply awesome.

Great point on varying the power in combinations. Haven't seen anyone other than Roy Jones do that as effectively. Maybe Loma, but not many are able to, it's a special gift.

Yes we know this, tell us something new.
This is more of a case where the promoter is trying to take the easy route and vacate to safe his asset than boxer trying to avoid the fight.

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
The fight will probably go to purse bid. Does Haymon dig deep into his pockets? Or does Spence travel?

Bids are accepted by any promoters. The highest bid wins the rights to stage the fight. The champion 'Brook' gets 75% and the challenger 'Spence' gets 25%.

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Spence is 100% willing to come to the UK and fight
Undefeated Olympian Errol Spence (21-0, 18 KOs) has no problem traveling over to the UK for his mandatory showdown with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, according to Spence's head trainer Derrick James.
Brook's promoter, Eddie Hearn, has placed his focus on making a deal with Spence and ongoing negotiations to fight Amir Khan had broken down over the financial terms.
But Hearn openly admits that he would rather have Brook drop the title and move up to the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds - as Brook strains his body to get down to the welterweight limit.
There is a purse bid scheduled for February 7th. Because of the 75-25 split in Brook's favor, Hearn is confident of gaining the home court advantage and bringing Spence over to the UK - which is fine with the challenger.
According to Hearn, there is a 70-80% chance that Spence will be the next fight for Brook - who as of this past weekend remained firm on the idea of following through with his mandatory defense. A meeting between Hearn and Brook is scheduled for tomorrow, when a final decision will be made.
"That's good to hear (about the chance of a Spence-Brook fight) but he hasn't really got a choice," James exclusively told Sky Sports. "We've heard about that fight [Khan], but we're not concerned with that because Eddie Hearn does say a lot of different things.
"Kell Brook wanted to fight Khan and be champion, but if he wants to stay champion, he's got to fight Errol. We're happy about it. We've worked a long time to get where we are and the outcome has made us happy. I can tell you, it's going to be a pretty good fight. We're expecting it to happen in the next three or four months and fighting in the UK is not a problem at all."
James watched Brook's last fight, but he wasn't overly impressed with what he saw. Brook moved up to by two divisions, to middleweight, to challenge WBA, IBO, IBF, WBC world champion Gennady Golovkin and was stopped in the fifth round. Brook started off very well, but faded due to a fractured orbital bone that came about in the second or third round.
James expects his boxer to shine in the contest, despite Brook appearing to be a step up in class when compared to the competition that Spence has faced thus far.
"On paper it might look like a big step up for Errol, but so far I have only watched one of his [Brook] fights against Triple G, and he looked a pretty good fighter but he certainly ain't phenomenal," James added.
"It just so happens that [Spence] is the No 1 in the IBF and it's not so much about the fighters, it's about the belt. If it was someone else, we would be talking about someone else. We've got nothing against Kell Brook, Kell Brook's just got something he wants to get. I think he's a good fighter, but I wasn't super impressed, thinking 'oh my god, he's amazing'.
"He's earned everything he's got, but he is going to need to go in there and do what he does best, because Errol is going to do what he does best, and what he needs to become a champion."

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Hearn should be very confident of winning the purse bid as I don't see Haymon put up a bunch only to have 75% of it go to Brook. I'll be impressed further with Spence if he decides to travel.

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Eddie Hearns starting to piss me off by now saying that Spence (Big Punching/Live Mandatory) isn't a big enough fight for Brook but didn't moan once when Brook fought 3 utter dog shit opponents back to back in No Show Dan, Frankie Gavin and Kevin Bizier.
Infact All Hearns done for Brook since he narrowly beat Porter is cash in and get him a smashed eye socket/beating off Golovkin.
He clearly see's Spence as a real threat to his cash cow and seems to be doing all he can to talk him out of it.
Brook is the fucking Champion and wants to defend his title so let him act like a Champion and defend it.

Unless Brook has told him to say that so he can avoid Spencer and let him take the blame. I am sure Eddie does not mind being portrayed the bad guy.

Nah , Eddie is just putting it out there so that Brook doesn't expect as big a payday.

So no ppv fight?

I will only buy the excuse that a fight isn't big enough if the fighter fights only the absolute best competition every fight.
Spence is literally the best welterweight he could fight. If not Spence, then who would be the better option at welter? The answer is there is no better option.
-
re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Hearn didn't say the fight isn't big enough, that is a well known trolls article. I give up dumping his links because you cunts never stop falling for it ;D

Maybe, maybe not. If they can make
Bellew PPV......TWICE, then they probably can make it PPV.
But he won't earn what he did against GGG or what he could earn against Khan , Pac, Canelo even.

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Purse bids pushed back a week by mutual consent. The party line is they're close to reaching a deal. That deal might just be that Brook slides into Kirklands shoes and Spence gets an absolute gimme for the title.
-

The word is it'll be in the UK in mid April. On cable in US and PPV for UK.

Khan v Cotto and Spence fights for the vacant title? Horrible.

Would Cotto want to fight somebody he has to pay a proper chunk of change to, who could easily end up beating him and who isn't very well known in America when he can have an exciting looking fight against somebody well known, cheap and much easier to beat and look good against to line him up for another big PPV fight?

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
I don't buy any of this Bullshit regarding Brook... " should he shouldn't he" if he physically can't safely make weight then fair enough But he's publicly stated he can and that he wants to defend his title... and so he should like a Champion should do.
Eddie Hearn knows full well it's a genuine 50-50 fight and wants to keep his little cash cow safe a little longer.
I actually have Spence as favourite and see him beating Brook.
-
re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Only Khan can save me ;D
[FONT=Lato]"The only way we would not do it is if Khan comes about, but he wants a tune-up fight first. A fight with Spence is the firm favorite and I’d hope to make it in the next week."

Why would Cotto have to put his hand in his pocket? Realistically where is Cottos big PPV coming from and is it going to match the kind of money Eddie will chuck his way for coming over here to fight Brook?
With Khan out the picture Cotto at 154 is Eddies preference for sure. It's probably Brooks too but that leaves a bit of a sting ditching his belt.

re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
I'm not sure I get all the hype for Errol Spence Jr. because his biggest win is against a worn Chris Algerie? If Kell Brook can still make 147 safely I think he should target Spence and I'd favor Kell to win that fight and Brook should get the lion's share of the purse too.....
-
re: Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr - 27/5/17 Sheffield UK
Hmm. I think Brook is more technically sound but I think Spence is far more explosive. Also, and I can't find the word to describe it, but Spence has a scary quality to him. It's almost as if he becomes a sociopathic punishing machine with no conscience and will only be stopped when the ref stops it. Very scary. Like Crawford, he has a real mean streak, but his is more understated than Crawford's. It's like once a button is pressed he becomes a monster. Poor Algieri found that out.

I don't think there's any chance Cotto fights outside of America.
