Showtime's "KO Artist" feature shows why HBO is miles ahead of them

I just saw this ridiculous profile of 6 boxers, (Tyson, Holyfield, Lacy, Freitas, Ricardo Lopez and Terry Norris), were Showtime invites viewers to vote for which one is the best "Showtime KO Artist" How do they figure this? Holyfield, Tyson, and Norris haven't KO'd anyone in years. And Lopez has been retired for 3 yrs.

HBO would never do something this lame. That's why they're still ahead in the game.

I sdont care why theyre doing it. The fact is its utterly ridiculous and amateurish to profile KO artists and include Holyfield, Tyson, and Lopez (who havent had a KO between them in years).

Besides the 2 Tyson fights, what other Holyfield KO's were on Showtime? I'm sorry, but they're really reaching on this one.

Holyfield vs Moorer II was a knockout on showtime

Granted, their production value, announcers, etc. are all seriously lacking, but are you kidding me?! HBO is horse$h1+! SHO is for real boxing fans. HBO is a bunch of PPV plus the occasional washed up, overhyped garbage fight with no undercard. They have no answer to Shobox and the reason is they're so damn full of themselves they can't be bothered to show too much actual boxing.

Showtime's quality of presentation is really mediocre, this is where HBO shines. everything from their previews to main event the presentation is top notch but where it really matters showtime is really outdoing HBO and that is in fights and today's heavyweight fight was no exception. Today's heavyweight fight which had limited star fighter appeal clearly stole the show from James Toney and hasim Rahman's hyped showdown. Last month we saw one of the best boxing performances ever in the most anticipated bout of recent times and in competition to that hbo put on an overwhelming show of Miguel cotto's power by undermatching him with Gianluca Bronco. plus there is Castillo-corrales 3 to look forward to and to compete with that hbo has tarver-hopkins

I don't pay for either but get to see all the fights, and I guess it's easy for me to say, but I like the way both of them present and commentate the fights, I slightly favour HBO's.

I prefer HBO's "presentation" of the fights, but showtime through has had some killer fights too lately.

Yea, Showtime has stepped it up big time and gotten some great fights.
I agree, as long as we get to see them I won't complain.

I really can care less about presentation even though HBO shines there the most. I believe sho box puts people against each other that can beat one another. Where HBO put The best of the best sometime against the worst of the worst. Don't get me wrong their are some exceptions like Cotto vs Torres (I think I spelled it right). Anyways when it comes down to it boxing is boxing I don't care what show it is, what's the amateur show or not, which show provides the better camera angels, it is still boxing to me. I mean WWE lost it's touch along time ago but it has a better presentation then TNA but TNA has the more hardcore matches and bouts. That's just my opinion.

Hah, I agree about the Showtime commentators. But they are starting to grow on me. There is something about Showtime, that it's missing that HBO has in quality.

But Showtime straight up kicked HBO's ass last year, in terms of quality of fights. Even this year they are keeping up the momentum. If I want to see a real fight, Showtime is always there and seems to never really disappoint.

HBO on the other hand, likes to protect it's fighters. Showtime, it seems, doesn't give a shit about their fighters. haha They'll sacrafice them to the wolves, as the case with Diego's immediate re-rematch with Corrales (Which was delayed, thanks to Chico's rib injury.)

I think HBO realizes this, which is why HBO's non-ppv bouts has actually upped it's intrigue with fights like Freitas Raheem, Byrd Wladimir, Barrera Juarez, and exciting fighters like Joel Julio, Barrios, and Brock.


And SUPERMAN:
Here's what happens...

Superman, lacking super-powers, being largely untrained in the art of boxing and... gets his clock cleaned by Muhammad Ali. In fact he's reduced to a bruised and bloodied mess ala Rocky Balboa. However, he does show great character and courage by refusing to give up and fall down. Finally, out of respect for Supe, Ali refuses to go on, prompting the referee to declare a technical knockout, which becomes more than just technical when Superman keels over face first onto the canvas.


I'm really looking forward to the movie "Superman Returns." 8)

CC, you beat me to it. All the production and features is fine, but Showtime has shown much better fights over the last couple of years, and the undercard situation with HBO is ridiculous. What's so hard about showing two fights? Ridiculous. Plus Showtime has Shobox but mainly they just show better fights and two of them, production values count when everything else is equal, right now everything else isn't equal. Over the last two years or so Showtime has been the true boxing channel, HBO's been overhyped glitz

But to give them credit, HBO seems to be going back to showing boxing after dark cards, and has three of them lined up. Now if they just start showing undercards they could get back in the race.

I agree with the posters who have given the style points to HBO (seriously, Showtime needs to lose that cheesy "Saturday Night" intro with the computer animated American Flag-shorts boxer); but give the substance points to Showtime for recent coveraged--Showtime's practice of paying for individual fights rather than signing contracts with fighters (like HBO) has been a good thing. And HBO's PPV-ing of things like Barrera-Peden (a really fun fight to watch because Barrera put on a technical clinic and looked incredible, but an unsurprisingly uncompetitive fight) is especially annoying; I won't pay $50 to see a Tarver-Hopkins snoozefest (like I didn't pay $50 to see a washed-up Mosley beat a washed-up Vargas).

Still, HBO reliably replays all of these fights the next weekend for free. And they do seem to be getting better about this--they've got a bunch of prime fights that they're showing for free this year, of which Wright-Taylor tops the list (cuz I definitely would have paid to watch that one). Basically, I think we should just be happy that Showtime's gotten its sh*t together on the substance, because the competition is making both networks' boxing coverage better than it's been in a while.

Showtime had a very good year last year, and they are starting good this year. HBO still reigns above as far as commentary, and they are doing alot of work to get better fights. HBO is overall better, but Showtime is real close.

I agree with Meowza, Buffer over Lennon Jr.

I agree that Buffer has a better voice and it lends a more dramatic quality to the event, but for real now, "ready to rumble" is sooooooooooo played I could care less if I ever heard it again. Anyway, I guess I'm just a substance over glitz type of guy
and don't care much for all the pageantry.

because these are since Showtime has started showing boxing. Nothing recent, thats why its best KO Artist to ever be on Showtime, not the Best KO Artist to "recently" be on Showtime. And HBO does those classic matches segments and go back to DLH Mosley instead of DLH Quartey or DLH Whitaker

yeah man ideally id like to sit ringside for free at pbf vs hatton but yo we all know that aint going down till atleast 07 and i aint bout to have this girl skip town on my free ringside seats. so it looks like pbf vs odlh or if that dont come off for whatever reason MAB vs Pac II seems like the next best thang. plus i can mack to all the fine pinays sitting ringside haahhaa. as for the whole 702 experience brotha u must hit TRYST at WYNN, PURE at Caesars Palace, and RAIN at Palms. i hooked up with hizzzoes from all over the country at those 3 spots. if u want to club for free go to brewery at Monte Carlo its a free bar/club with alot of drunk hoez. and dont trip bout starving cuz i got u at the TI buffet baby hollaaaaaaaaaaaar!
