So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
Fury? Wilder? Parker? Wlad? Ortiz? Joshua? Other?
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
Joshua
Fury
Wlad
Wilder
Parker
I only put AJ above Fury because of the excitement factor of the fight and the fact that Furys entire future career is questionable at the moment
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
AJ
Wlad
Wilder
Parker
Ortiz
Fury out through health isue, Bellew and Haye out for being fake wanabe's
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
I don't really like Fury as a guy, but he's got to look pretty damn good after tonight... whether he can get anything together is another story, but he does deserve some benefit of the doubt.
AJ
WLAD
Wilder
Ortiz
Just my personal list.
-
If anybody puts Bellew on their list, I'm fucking leaving the forum!

Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
Have to think Joshua ultimately ko'ing a sharper and more aggressive Wlad more impressive what Fury did with him. He did it first but he's done zilch after and AJ would do well not to get twisted up in that circus until Fury shows he's recovered and serious about the ring again. Joshua, Wilder (iffy), Wlad, Ortiz, Parker.
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
AJ
Wilder
Wlad
Ortiz
Wlad has lost 2 in a row. Wilder isn't great but I think that he beats wlad at this point. Ortiz needs to be more active.
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
Ortiz needs to be in shape and stop being over active with the food.
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
1: AJ
2: Wilder
3: Wlad
4: Ortiz
5: Parker
I need to qualify these ratings. It's hard to split AJ and Wilder. But AJ has the Wlad win now and that trumps anything Wilder has done. Wlad showed last night that he is nowhere near finished and still a world class heavyweight. I'd favour him over anyone bar the two above him.
Fury misses out because of inactivity. Ignoring that, I'd still have a hard time ranking him above Wlad. There wasn't really anything in their fight and I think Fury is the type of fighter who could quite easily get chinned by anyone knocking on the door of world level. So I'm not sure where I would rank him even if he was active. Sounds harsh, but the Klitschko win was so far and above anything he had even threatened to ever achieve, and Wlad's performance was so odd that night that I still don't know what to make of it. I just think Wlad would still easily beat everyone else who isn't AJ or Wilder whereas I think even a fit and active Fury is a total toss up even with the likes of David Price. I just think everything came together for him against Wlad. He got into his head and just waited and waited. Once Wlad actually opened up in the 12th and let his hands go, Fury looked in trouble and god will only know why he didn't do that earlier. I actually don't even think Fury believes he could pull something like that off again and that's why he think he will remain retired.....regardless of what he's said since last night.

I don't see how the Joshua vs Wlad fight makes Fury look better. Wlad was absolutely shocking against Fury and JUST lost.

I have it the same. Fury is out for inactivity and being unlicensed. Parker then Pulev after that.

Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
As far as im concerned until someone beats Fury he has to remain top of the pile
I honestly would be amazed if anyone in the division can handle his size and awkward style, as much as i don't like watching the way he "fights" he's a fucking nightmare of an opponent for anyone.
He made Wlad look like a little boy and toyed with him for fun whereas AJ was the total opposite and had to fight for his life and climb off the floor to win.
I'd rather watch AJ all day long over Fury as i wanna see fights that entertain but Fury for me is the man to beat.
The best matchup in the division is Wilder v AJ for me - i also think the Klitschko we saw on Saturday would beat Wilder ;)
Fury
Joshua
Klitschko
Wilder
Parker

I agree with your comments on Fury but at the end of May it will be over 18 months since he last fought. He is unlicensed and has an alleged failed drug test/ hearing hanging over his head. How much leeway do you give him?

I think seeing AJ lording it up in front of 90,000 fans and parading Furys belts around will have seriously got under Furys skin and will 100% be the kick up the ass he needs to get his nut down and return to the ring.
He must have sat there watching the fight on Saturday thinking that should be me, will he be the same fighter though, he's 27 stone at the moment :-\
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
That's why I was asking as you had Fury #1 even after all the inactivity. We really don't know what he'll be like if he returns.
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
Some people give fury too much credit. He was not that good of a fighter. He had a good win against wlad, but he really never looked impressive at all in any other fight. Sure he won, but he had a lot more trouble with other fighters than he did with wlad.
If he were active, I'm fine with him being #1, but it's not like he's Floyd mayweather on a hiatus who is clearly the best fighter in the world. If fury ever did comeback, I doubt he really does much.
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
As I said loads of times, The best Fury we have ever seen JUST outpointed the worst Wlad we have ever seen. People like Maddelone and Cunnigham put Fury on his ass, imagine what Joshua would do.
-
Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
AJ
Klitschko
Povetkin
Ortiz
Pulev
Joseph Parker really isn't that good, he received a home gift decision over Takam. Wilder has avoided all the decent HWs.
Tyson Fury is very good, but because of his personal problems and inactivity, I didn't include him.

Povetkin had his chance to fight Wilder and took drugs. He should not be on your list.

I agree. If Fury is out then Povetkin should be too until he beats a contender to get rated again. Same with Browne. I had Parker drawing with both Takam and Ruiz.

u wot m8.. povetkin has been beating contenders steadily since wlad wrestled him to defeat, it was only late last year when he ko'd duhaupass and he is due to fight again in july... The only reason not to include povetkin would be his dodgy record with drug tests :S well and if you dont rate him that highly of course :S I do rate povetkin very highly but he is ageing now and the doping means I wouldnt have him top 5 anymore.
I would also not rank fury right now due to him semi retiring and I think the personal problems are pretty closely, linked to his potential doping ban..#
so with these two missing my top 5 would look pretty much the same as everyone elses so i will try to include some different names and try to justify them for fun :S
joshua
wladimir
pulev
Ortiz
Tom Schwarz :S
I am skeptical about ortiz and i think pulev would win a decision over him.. I am not sure if ortiz should be top 5 hopefully we get to see more of him soon before he ages anymore :S

Since his failed test Povetkin has only beaten Duhaupas and that was on short notice. I still don't even know how that fight was allowed to take place seeing as Povetkin had just failed his 2nd drug test. The WBC has banned him indefinitely although Povetkin will be able to request that it be lifted after a year of negative tests for banned substances. So for me Povetkin is out until he competes again in a fight sanctioned by one of the governing bodies.
I'd rate Takam and Ruiz far ahead of a prospect like Schwarz.

well i would not include povetkin in any forum rankings either but I wouldn;t say his omission from my ranking is due to inactivity like fury, povetkin is still pretty active, maybe i misunderstood why you dont include povetkin.
anyway I included tom schwarz to make the list a bit different but I do think he has some good things going for him, he is only 22 and getting better, he is tall, good right hand too and pretty strong, him v Takam would be a good match up for him next year i think..

Re: So who are the current top 5 HWs? (in order)
If it wasn't for his failed drug tests Povetkin would be right up there for me. Schwarz is decent but has been very inactive in his career thus far. If heard he now has a new promoter so hopefully he can start getting some momentum going.

I was so looking forward to Wilder v Povetkin but he let himself down with the positive drug test. He should be banned for life.
Russian's and drug testing is now a stereotype. The whole country is corrupt and the state support cheating.

No no I wasn't meaning it against you. It's just Wilder gets sh-t for fight all these voluntaries, and rightly so for most of it. But he did fly over to Russia and looked set to face his mandatory in Povetkin.

I concur, not that I think all of wilders defences are as bad as they have been made out to be but wilder does seem like the sort of guy who really wants to take anyone on, he sounds very convincing when he is calling guys out, which he regulary does, I think he would take on anyone but his managers dont want that yet. I like wilder I just dont think he is particulary great.

The Fury's are Russian ?
