Good fight. Really like Joe Smith Jr. Just a very good basic fighter with hellacious power and a strong work ethic. Good kid. Barrera I've seen once before and looked decent against Ward as I recall.
Top notch mix up. Smith still a huge mystery but earned spot and like Barrera's jab to be a truth teller.
Its on ;D. Joe Smith huge knockdown on Barrera in 1st! These dudes started it early
shaw cable only has the stupid delayed hbo here so I dont see this live :S(it starts in two hours for some reason)I should hide from this thread but i want to know what happens now :S
Barrera better composed into 3rd putting punches together. Levels showing but Smith power is real make no mistake about it, starting to get rough and winging bricks here.
Both with big shots in 6th, Barrera better of. Smith comes out boxing 7th mouth open looking for one big timed shot here, not sloppy. Barrera needs to keep his head.
This fookin ref again, mr put the camera on me. Haven't seen many if any a ref try to become a corner man telling a guy this is not the way you normally fight..trying to rally em in his corner.
Good hook by Smith had Barrera clinging for a second. Honestly much better defense by Smith last few rounds, looking to pick his bombs. Barrera comfortably ahead
Jack Reiss tells them it's the final round but set for 12 :-X. Man read your program
;D Lamps says GBP changed to 10 without telling network, kinda embarrassing
96-93...97-92...97-92 Barrera takes it.
Jezreel Corrales and Robinson Castellanos set for 12 up next. Love to see Castellanos take his trinket. Probably just jinxed him to a vicious ko now
Corrales pretty crafty flashy southpaw. Switches up to. Looking to make U.S debut impressive. Great..headbutt Castellanos cut
??? Corrales takes one to the bells on low blow and crumples. Up quick and takes no time. Castellanos bleeding heavy, looks bit discouraged after 3. Good look at Corrales
:o good look at Corrales on canvas. Takes a knockdown on quick punch!
This is awesome Corrales dropped again and sits there like WTF happened. Huge 4th round for Castellanos
Castellanos 5th much more substance. Corrales feet are starting to switch up way too much, bit scrambled.
Corrales with a chip on his shoulder in 6th. Slows roll of Castellanos just a bit.
Castellanos clipped him good with left as Corrales left his head hanging too long, Ohhh Corrales lands left hand and drops Castellanos square! Looked like he blocked it partial think he also stepped on his foot. Definite momentum swing 7th
wth was that. Think Corrales just threw a superman punch ;D. Corrales 8th. This guy would have been trampoline champion in another life. Castellanos with work late 9th but not enough. Corrales with good string here
and another headbutt and another cut on Castellanos in 10th. Fight waved and they are scoring a .31 second round on cards :-X. Cut under the eye.
I cannot score a 30 round and don't see how they could accurately...scores 94-94..94-93..96-94...Corrales ??? Without 10th had it 84-84. Rematch would be nice
balls i fell asleep 2 rounds into the corrales fight, woke up for the judges decision on berchelt miura :S
barrera did a very good job on joe smith jr i thought, he does have a bad habit of getting knocked down though, in 3 of his last 4 , smith knocked him down, ward put him down and the soviet fellow who i forget the name of put him down too, he looks to be a pretty talented fellow with a good jab, makes ward and koalev look good too as ward shut barrera out, show how much of a different level those guys are on... That was for a wbc minor title, stevenson is the wbc champ isnt he? I wonder if he will fight barrera, i dont think so and he is getting old so I think he will take on one of the big names next to end his career, I will bet on kovalev v stevenson.
Yeh he definitely looked like a one trick pony as it went. Liked his movement late and he did manage to rattle Barrera on one occasion down the stretch but didn't put anything together. Actually just read he suffered a broken jaw as early as the 2nd round. The same injury that caused him to 'opt out' in his only other loss. If that's the case is a bit odd he showed no signs or let on in the corner but hey, apparently set for surgery later in the week.
It's valid, the x-rays are available. Clearly and badly broken
Too bad about his jaw. I was rooting for him to win, but he obviously had a good excuse for not just going all out and throwing.
Barrera on a nice little run.
