old rockers that have still got it...
Paul Rodgers has always been one of my favourite vocalists but I have just stumbled across this (playing with Joe Bonamassa who is my favourite current guitarist) and considering the dude is pushing 70 he is still fucking great.
Bob Plant is one of the greatest rock/blues vocalists of all time but his voice was shot by the time they recorded Physical Graffiti (his vocals on Night Flight were fucking mega though)
I reckon we should have a thread dedicated to the old age rockers who have still got it
Pink Floyd definitely deserve a shout out in here but I'm just gunna start off with this one.
p.s. even if they are dead as long as they were past their prime and still sounded great stick em in here you bunch of bastards

Re: old rockers that have still got it...
I think a lot of this will have to do with the style of the singer I mean you can't expect Frankie Valli or Steve Perry to keep that vocal range forever
To ME and maybe this is JUST me Robert Plant has been the guy who could hit the high notes in the studio but never live and I mean Zepp is well before my time, but looking back at the live stuff he doesn't hit the high notes in 'Song Remains The Same' but maybe I'm being harsh on him....I love Zepplin but at the same time age has made me wiser for elevating them to the levels of Rock'n'Roll untouchables due mainly to their musical thievery but hey it's a tough business.
Bob Seger who doesn't get a lot of credit for as many hits as he's had can still sing pretty good.
Johnny Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd can still sing well but again I believe that's more of what that band needs he can provide it's not an issue of him leading that group or providing a tone/harmony which lays the foundation for the songs
Axl Rose can still provide what GNR needs to get by
David Lee Roth actually wasn't that bad when I heard him but that was ages ago too in 2007 so there's no telling where he is now.
Levon Helm sang well even when he was older and shit after a battle with throat cancer he did pretty fuckin good God rest his soul.
Eric Burdon is still going strong fuckin classic voice on that dude

at 75 years old that's pretty fuckin epic
Billy Joel more of a crooner but still sings well
Tony Bennett he's no rocker but at 91 he's still singing and God damn he still holds an audience

Plant didn't look after his voice, he grated it to fuck, take a listen to 'How The West was Won' or the BBC sessions, in the early days his voice was actually better live that it was on the recordings, he just absolutely killed it

Over the last decade, Axl Rose's voice was quite poor, because he didn't give a fuck.
However, he toured with AC/DC to get back in vocal shape, and his voice and performance was fantastic when we saw them live this summer.

Yes that is all well and good but what we really want to know is how good Barry Manilow live.

When I first ever heard Hozier's 'Take Me To Church' I was thinking "God damn if only Eric Burdon had that song when he was in his twenties what he would have done with it!" not so much that I like the song but I know Burdon's style and that was right up his alley

Re: old rockers that have still got it...
Morrissey still has it. He is a much better singer than when he started out and I am very eager to hear his new album. He always has some tunes and you know he has something to say.

I saw on the news that the great Fats Domina has died.
Isn't it wierd that so many of these iconic rock and music legends are passing away one after another?
Now that Fats has gone, I wonder if they will find a name for this strange effect?
Re: old rockers that have still got it...
Fats was a local legend, great range and spirit in his music. We are losing too many, just falling like Dominos. Too soon :-X
