One Last Floyd v Gregory Thread
I don't usually start new threads i usually just lurk and post the odd comment but anyway here's my 2nd of the day and my last one. I gotta get this off my chest.
Since back in work on Tuesday i have been saying haha told you so to all the fairy heads in work that put money on Conor winning the fight. Some just put a bet on for a laugh and the the odds at the time but nearly all of them insist that Gregory fought really well and was winning the fight early on. All i hear them saying is that it was a close fight and Conor did well for the sport of MMA blaa blaa blaa
Its not just work though its all over the internet. Not just twitter and you tube etc all arse holes have opinions but even people in the media and comments in the sports pages of papers.
BULLSHIT
Floyd fuckin toyed with him from the start. If you think that Mcgregor even worried or bothered Mayweather one bit then you are fking deluded. He had no chance. Floyd knew he had no chance. Every sane person in the universe know he had fucks chance of beating Floyd. Mayweather simply give the fans a bit of value for their money. How can you not know this.

I said that you knew Floyd was serious about knocking him out when he guaranteed it. Floyd never does that so he fought a fight which would guarantee a knockout. It's called losing the battle but winning the war.
Floyd could have just outboxed him to a super boring decision if he wanted to, but he decided that he could knock out Mcgregor without worry of getting hit too hard. There's a reason at the age of 40 he is willing to take shots from Mcgregor and not willing a few years earlier to take shots from any other opponent.

It went exactly as it was supposed to go. Was it scripted, no. But one person, who we knew would choose how it went, chose how it went.

I mean, Vegas denied his perfectly legal wager FFS, that says all you need to know. He couldn't bet 400k on the round, he couldn't even have a friend bet 400k on the round. They only let his friend bet 87,000 😂

I didn't think it was all that bad and if I had to choose
I'd rather watch that again over the Pacquiao fight.

If somebody offered me hundreds of millions of pounds to come out of retirement (where I'd been keeping fit anyway) to fight somebody who couldn't hurt me, couldn't make me look bad, had absolutely zero chance of winning and who could do most of the talking and hyping of the 'fight' .... I'd take it.

I only watched the highlights but I was surprised how little power macgregor could get on his shots, even the uppercut he landed early on where was in a great position to hurt floyd it just made mayweather blink a bit :S, I don't think macgregor has much of a chance in pro boxing unless he takes on much smaller guys or guys who are totally finished(aka mallignaggi:S)...
Who cares about this event anyway, if you find this stuff fun(the pre fight nonsense) fun then you certainly got your moneys worth, although I don't think mayweather has ever been that great at trash talking but somehow people still fall for his act and hype him up.. And it was a 40 year old retired guy fighting a mma champ for no title belts for a "record" of getting to 50-0, which I am not sure why this is an amazing record but whatever(julio cesar chavez won his first 80 something fights), I dont get all the weird hate for this fight, it didnt interest me that much so only watched some of it on youtube afterwards.. Cotto giving the japanese fellow brain damage wasnt much more of a contest either.

At least the Cotto fight was free to HBO subscribers.

With a certain degree of shame, I must admit I have just watched the fight for free on YouTube.
Mayweather was utterly contemptuous of McGregor and just walked him down and battered him to a deserved stoppage. I thought McGregor was absolutely shit ..... terrible technique with powerless arm punches, confusion and ineptitude in the clinches and no tactical plan at all.
Mayweather was fit, fitter than McGregor which is a good achievement for a 40 year old with two years of inactivity behind him. His timing was really off and we didn't see that lightning fast straight right lead (one of the best weapons in boxing history), we didn't see any movement or ringcraft really. His composure under pressure was, as always, superb .... but being hit by Conor wasn't like being hit by a professional boxer. There was a big big difference in punch power between them both, and Floyd isn't a big puncher.
Floyd won by having a gameplan of making Connor be active for the full three minutes of each round (he never took a step back from the break, he was constantly standing right in front of McGregor and he made Connor lead off all the time). In the clinches, he either turned his back on McGregor, conning the ref into thinking he was being fouled, or he stuck his elbow right in McGregors face). He just ground him down and then battered him.
The only way McGregor could have won that fight was if Fan Man had parasailed into the ring and shot Floyd in the head.
McGregor is really a middleweight or super middle sized guy. Golovkin or Badou Jack would have genuinely killed this guy in the ring,
The most annoying thing was the commentators. I don't know who they all were, but one of them was Paulie Malignaggi. They were completely biased in their commentary, saying how great Conor was doing (when he was achieving fuck all) and bigging him up hugely.
Commentators are supposed to be giving expert unbiased analysis that you may not have noticed ..... not being complicit in a criminal con!

Paulie was probably trying to talk up Conor so that he could fight him next year. What a attention seeking whore who is no better than David Haye.

there are two things floyd figured out pretty early. mcgregor was leaving a very long southpaw jab out. what that does is fill up the space where you can throw your jab. so you dont get room to extend your jab out. floyd was not going to jab with or out jab mcgregor. not this way. and he was trying to steal his right hand from way out. mcgregor was seeing it coming and slipping it.
so what he decided to do was to get squared up and get his hands up. forget trying to out jab the guy. just get your hands up and walk through the jab. then get yourself closer so you can steal your right hand from up closer. that way mcgregor doesnt see it coming from way out. he gets it from up close so he doesnt have as much time to react to it.
mcgregor had no answer. well, but to get hit with a lot of right hands and to throw a lot of punches at floyd arms and gloves, that is. i guess that would take about 10 rounds, as hard as floyd punches.

Have to admit watched the full fight on Showtime this weekend. I kept waiting for these nip and tuck rounds the cable shows and a few elsewhere kept mentioning while it was live. I made it a point to stay out of the knuckle dragging keyboard wars on FB that sprang up right after that slammed the stoppage and Mayweather in general, mainly from many friends who follow mma. Being honest Floyd was in complete control, he wasn't 'forced' to find a way to win he simply executed a common sense game plan set well in advance. After 3, 4th it was his show to end and I don't ever remember seeing Mayweather walk straight in one punch at a time and standing his ground. He set the hook, towed him out to the deep end helped him collapse on his dead legs and depleted lungs. I don't think Floyd is as done, slowed as some said though I certainly would like him to stay on the shelf. Conor was class in extended interviews also.

Everyone says Conor is a nice guy and did well to sell the fight but he was piss poor and should be embarrassed with his performance.
Floyd was laughing inside at how rubbish technically Conor from the first round.
Conor was shit and he should retire to Ireland and never fight again. He has shamed his MMA/UFC sport and they should all ban him from the sport.

There was a big big difference in punch power between them both, and Floyd isn't a big puncher.
Floyd won by having a gameplan of making Connor be active for the full three minutes of each round (he never took a step back from the break, he was constantly standing right in front of McGregor and he made Connor lead off all the time). In the clinches, he either turned his back on McGregor, conning the ref into thinking he was being fouled, or he stuck his elbow right in McGregors face). He just ground him down and then battered him.
The only way McGregor could have won that fight was if Fan Man had parasailed into the ring and shot Floyd in the head.
McGregor is really a middleweight or super middle sized guy. Golovkin or Badou Jack would have genuinely killed this guy in the ring,
The most annoying thing was the commentators. I don't know who they all were, but one of them was Paulie Malignaggi. They were completely biased in their commentary, saying how great Conor was doing (when he was achieving fuck all) and bigging him up hugely.
Commentators are supposed to be giving expert unbiased analysis that you may not have noticed ..... not being complicit in a criminal con!

Might as well of had MMA fans from Ireland calling the fight.
I’ve always preferred HBO over Showtime so it’s no surprise
But it’s still wrong especially when what they’re saying about the fight
Doesn’t match up to the reality of what was going in the ring.

Gate numbers are reportedly in for Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor, and while the final total is enormous, it’s not a record-breaker.
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Conor McGregor was billed as having the potential to break both the gate and pay-per-view revenue records previously set by Mayweather’s May 2015 win over Manny Pacquiao. While pay-per-view buys are trending in the general direction of the 4.6 million buys (North America only) for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, the live gate apparently wasn’t close.
Jed I. Goodman received the gross gate and ticket sales information from the Nevada Athletic Commission on Tuesday.
$55.4 million is well off from the $72,198,500 for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, and definitely nowhere near the claims made by Dana White that the gate was at $70 million just a couple of days prior to the mega-fight. Post-fight, Mayweather was qouted as saying it'd eclipse $80 million. In the lead-up to the bout, one of the storylines was the slow-moving ticket sales, unsurprisingly caused by the outrageously expensive pricing of the seats at the T-Mobile Arena. There were plenty of empty seats even for the main event.
Make no mistake about it though, this is still the second-largest gate of all-time by a considerable distance. It’s more than triple the best live gate in UFC history, UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor, and $35 million higher than Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez in 2013. When all is said and done, Mayweather will hold the top four gates in the history of Nevada boxing events, although that may by short-lived if Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez manages to break $30 million.
As for McGregor, he has the distinct honor of headlining the biggest-selling UFC pay-per-view of all-time (the UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz), four of the five top gates in Nevada, the number one gate in UFC history, and now the number two gate in boxing history. Not too shabby, if you ask me.

Maybe Floyd generates these huge numbers because the crossover general public just want to see the 'bad guy' beaten ...... but boxing fans now know that Mayweather is virtually untouchable around that weight (or was)
With that in mind, fighting some sort of non boxer would generate much more unknowns and speculation than fighting a boxer. If he fought a 7 foot wrestler or a rabid chimpanzee I reckon or would have been equally as big, especially if the opponent could bring in sales from people who wouldn't ordinarily buy boxing PPV's

Conor McGregor is being sued for €78k by a security guard over an incident arising from his infamous press conference with Nate Diaz last year.
According to US website the Blast, security guard William Pegg is suing after claiming he was hit in the back of the head by a can after McGregor and Diaz launched objects at each other during a press conference ahead of their second fight at the David Copperfield Theater in Las Vegas.
Both McGregor and Diaz were previously fined by the Nevada State Commission over the incident.
Pegg is claiming that he paid out €4,100 in medical expenses following the incident.
The security guard and his legal team are suing for €78k based on the fact that McGregor made €12m from the Diaz fight. They suggest the Notorious was struck "significantly" by Diaz 166 times, so divided €12m by 166 and arrived at the figure of 74k with the medical expenses rounding it off to €78k.
