'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9.99 to watch heavyweight title fight on YouTube
September 23 bout will be shown exclusively on video streaming site with early bird price coming in at a tenner and £14.99 thereafter
HUGHIE FURY’S WBO world heavyweight title clash against Joseph Parker will be shown exclusively live on YouTube – but fans are raging at being charged £9.99 to watch it.
Hennessy Sports announced this morning the first for boxing coverage in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The September 23 bout will be shown on the video streaming service – but carry a cost.
Early bird prices available until September 17 will set fans back just under a tenner and it is £14.99 after that.
Sky Box Office usually charge £19.95 for their pay-per-view events, including even their biggest showdowns such as Anthony Joshua’s victory over Wladimir Klitschko last April.
And it’s clear some fans felt Hennessy Sports – who will show the fight through The Boxing Channel on YouTube – were asking for too much.
One user commented: “£10 to watch on YouTube. @eddieHearn please keep up the good work with Sky if this is the alternative.”
Another tweeted: “You’re charging a tenner on YouTube. Surely not.”
A fellow fan said: "I was hoping Channel 5 when I heard it was good news. This takes the p***. Might as well have been ITV pay-per-view."
Chris Boyd said: "This is an absolutely baffling decision. Anyone know what the lowest PPV buy rate in UK history is?"
Iain Gandy said: "This is good for people who live in an area with s*** internet isn't it?"
Lloyd Davies posted: "£10 to watch Hughie Fury on a computer screen #pass."
A fellow Twitter user wrote: "Judging by the lack of people buying a ticket to see it in person, is it really justifiable to charge people £10 to watch it on their phone?"
The undercard will be shown live on YouTube for free.
Also, most modern televisions are smart TVs, meaning sites such as YouTube have their own easily accessible app built in.
Games consoles with the YouTube app or a browser will also allow viewers to watch the action through their set rather than a smaller laptop or tablet screen.

Re: 'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9
It went from BoxNation to ITV PPV to nothing.
Complete and utter jokers couldn't even sell the "heavyweight championship of the world" to TV.
@ross is itching to bite the bullet and tell us divs why this is exactly what the Fury's planned all along.

Re: 'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9
If you don't like it then don't buy it. I don't think it's worth the money
But we'll see what the undercard looks like and go from there.
I don't rate Parker and I've not seen Hughie so this doesn't interest me
But that doesn't mean it won't be a good fight.

Mayweather v conor - £20
AJ v Pulev - £20
Jr v Yildirim - £18
Hughie v Parker - £10
Sky Sports subscription - £30
BoxNation subscription - £12
Now I agree, if you don't think its worth it don't pay for it, the only issue is that it is a fight I would 'like' to watch and I am interested in but I don't agree that it is worth an additional £10
The above is just a rough estimate of what it will cost over the space of a month or 2 to keep up to date with all of the live boxing in the UK , unfortunately it is getting to the point where I am going to have to start missing fights that I would like to watch purely because I can't afford them.

You'll be paying extra for the Alvarez vs Golovkin fight too
I understand what you're saying but don't support it
The Eubank fight was bull shit and should never have been PPV.
£10 for a Heavyweight title fight between two unbeaten fighters isn't bad
Especially when the Joshua fight is twice the price and less interesting.

Re: 'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9
This is what happens when people get too greedy with the PPV model.
I hope this bombs.
At least put this on Channel 5.

Ginger Pubes v GGG is part of the BoxNation subscription so that won't cost me any more than the usual £12 a month...as far as I know

A guy who hasn't scored a KO at title level , v a guy who hasn't fought at world level , for a belt that is a joke.
Hmmmmmmm isn't tempting at all to be honest.

Agreed.
Hughie has beaten no one.
Does he deserve this shot more than Dillian Whyte?

Whyte is a bum! So yes he deserves a shot more than Whyte.
I don't understand the hate here, two unbeaten fighters
In their primes fighting for a title! It's only £10 guys

Hughie has fought no body to justify fighting for this title, at least Whyte beat Chisora.

Who doesn't beat Chisora!? The guys lost seven times
And Whyte's win wasn't even all that convincing either
Chisora and Whyte are both shit in my opinion.

Regardless of that, Chisora is still a well known name, and don't forget Whyte also gave AJ his toughest test (until Klit)
So whilst I agree with you that Whyte may not be that great he has done more than Hughie in those two fights alone.
Oh and for the record saying "the guys lost seven times" means nothing, how many times has Manny been beat again?

Chisora is well known for losing! Who's he actually beaten

How the hell does Hughie get a shot??? Was there any talk of a Ruiz rematch for Parker. The wbo strap peaked at Mercer-Morrison.

Just because Hughie is undefeated you think he deserves a shot and is worthy of paying £10?
If that is your criteria then you pay for a lot of ppv's?

Why would there be? We already saw that fight and it wasn’t good

Don’t get me wrong there are others that deserve the shot more
But Chisora and Whyte aren’t on that list in my opinion.
Two unbeaten fighters in their prime fighting for a title
And a possible fight with either Joshua or Wilder next year.
What is £10? Seriously what can you really get for that money
Mayweather-McGregor was twice the price for no title
And even less relevance! I don’t get the hate for this one.

I dunno I didn't think it was bad at all and arguably Ruiz could have received the nod. Really Ruiz has done more in that one to warrant a rematch over what Fury has done to get his 1st, but maybe that's just me. Not saying Hughie has no chance but this feels all about bringing Parker over to new fans for a future build. Doesn't hurt that his big bro held the trinket and crowd but now that's just getting overly cynical about the sport ;D.
-
Re: 'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9
Yea Ruiz could have got the nod in the States. Not really interested in this one but it is building towards bigger things.
-
Re: 'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9
Hughie is Tyson's cousin not his brother (his dad trains both) and is the mandatory challenger for the title, hence the shot.
The bookies make it a coin flip. Hughie can't crack an egg but is a great big lanky constantly moving "runner," the polar opposite of fat sqaut Ruiz, who I too thought beat Parker (just).
-
Re: 'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9
On a side note Hughie Fury has a lot of spots on his body. It may be just a skin condition.

There was a photo in boxing weekly/monthly cutting a log with an axe and his body was covered in spots. Horrible infliction.

Re: 'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9
an unbeaten British fighter fights for the world heavyweight title and no tv channel wants it. Not even Dave.
what a state the sport is in
a retired 40 year old vs a zero fight novice took all the attention instead
