Looks like it's a done deal! Not a super-fight but great to see Spence back in and a nice style mesh. Was wondering what was up when Peterson vacated recently. Unfortunately for Peterson he'll probably think he's a slugger again and trapped in a corner. Interested to see full card details.
Probably the best fight Spence can get at the moment so no problem with this fight. Peterson is a solid fighter but Spence should win this pretty easily.
Been saying this for a while, like Spicoli mentioned it was rather clear after he dropped the belt.
I had a brief moment of pure excitement when I heard Spence was getting 3.5 million because that would suggest a Crawford fight. But you can only fight who will fight you
Thurman won’t
Porter won’t
Garcia won’t
By their own words. So that brings us to Peterson.
Not sure how Al is sorting it out to pay Spence 3.5, he gets good ratings but still. That’s good chedda for a new champion. Seems they are really banking on his future.
I really hope that someone better steps up to fight Spence next. There are a few fighters that could take the fight but don’t want to. How is it going to work when Crawford gets to 147? Are all of the welterweights going to completely avoid 2 fighters?
You mean avoid Bud? Probably a bit. But Bud has been quite clear as well that he’s looking at Thurman more than Spence. And in one of the videos I’ve watched of Thurman recently, I think the last one I posted in the MIA thread, Thurman says Bud has to prove himself(seen that one before) at 147 first. I just hope Bud is willing to fight Spence, we all know Spence will. That’s why he’s The Truth.Quote:

Yes I meant fighters avoiding Crawford. Both Spence and Crawford seem to truly want to fight the best so that fight will most likely happen eventually. It’s just unfortunate that the other top fighters won’t allow them to clear out the division first.

Definitely a decent enough opponent in Peterson to make initial defense and blow up the ratings. Crawford v Spence is the fight to make for me, just has to happen and completely viable 147 super fight! Bigger problem is Crawford under Arum and making it especially under Haymon. Spence is proving a wise man turning down GBP Cotto in some bs CW with conditions and pulling 3.5 here and aiming at relevant future threats.Quote:

Thurman wants nothing to do with Spence, and I don't blame him (though I do think it is cowardly for a "champ" to avoid his top challenger). The reality is that Keith was a bit overrated prior to surgery, and I don't think he will even make it back to what he was prior to the surgery. Brook put on a great performance vs Spence, and still ended up getting stopped. No one will fight Spence now until they are forced to, or until he becomes the big money fighter of the division (I predict some of the names move up or down to avoid him).

I think Spence stops Peterson in 5-6 by going to the body. Peterson used to be a durable fighter and did well rebounding from the Matthysse ko to beat garcia in some peoples eyes. The question is did peterson look that good or is this another case of garcia not being as great as he was hyped to be. I think Peterson has reach a solid vet status, but he's just being fattened up for the kill at this point.

Spence isn’t the finished article yet and is still improving. The way he took out Brook in his hometown shows how good he already is and I don’t think Peterson has anything Brook didn’t. Maybe a little more grit bit that will just result in him taking more of a beating.
I see Spence making another statement in this fight especially if Peterson comes to fight ( can’t forget Mathyse ). If Lamont uses his legs then it will go late but I don’t see him winning the rounds. Spence is unstoppable at welter at the moment. Supremacy will be challenged when Crawford arrives as Thurman doesn’t seem too keen to be involved.
I'll watch this tomorrow morning, if the main is late and starts at about 5am then I'll watch it live but it should be on well before then I'd have thought.
