what is your favourite scary scene from a horror film?

I'm just watching John Carpenters 'The Thing' at the minute (nice easy watching for a Sunday morning I know)

I thought it'd be interesting to see what you lot class as your favourite scenes, whether it is an outright balls to the wall gore fest from Hostel or some campy screams from The Amityville Horror stick them in here.

This old fucker scared the absolute living shite out of me when I was a kid, there isn't any crazy jump scenes or anything, he's just a horrible creepy old dude, one of the few things that has gave me nightmares.

Then there is this scene of Exorcist III, probably one of the most underrated scares in film I reckon, the film was actually pretty decent and would have been a helluva lot better if the studio left it the way William Peter Blatty wanted it to be.

Hammer house of horror scared me as a child.

I remember one with a witch. Maybe called Lucinda.

The scene in The Shining with the blood coming out of the elevator is pretty creepy.

I like that scene in Zodiac killer with he finds out the guy he talking to did the posters and then has to go down to the basement. More of a thriller tho.

Eraser head although not really horror was creepy scary. The German version of funny games

In The Thing where they're testing the blood and he strikes the shape shifter... that scared the fuck out of me.

The tub girl in The Shining is terrifying. In Rec where they're in the dark with one of the monsters at the end is horrible.

For some reason I remember a cheap short that HBO put out in the 80's. It was about a film reel that ate people ???. Looked like it was done with a budget of $50 but creepy as shat.

I remember when I first saw werewolf of London. I thought it was the most realistic werewolf transition I ever saw. I haven't been scared by a horror movie in a while but the conjuring gave me the creeps. The newer one about that doll Annabelle was good but I got it at redbox and forgot to bring it back for several days, would have been more prudent to buy it.

On a super moon like now in its current phase it can make you think twice about the merits of exploring a growler

Well the horror movie that traumatized me the most was 'Jaws' and of course the very first death in that movie, when super hot Chrissie goes for a midnight swim and then is eaten by a monster you never see....oooh that was a good one especially with the music the build up was great, the terror on her face was realistic.


For a "horror" movie The Shinning isn't all that scary it's unnerving which is different but it was unnerving for a reason it was a movie about genocide. Stephen King's book is apparently very different. The Ring is also unnerving.


I remember watching 'Slugs' for the first time...the ending scene where one of the heroes falls into and is eaten up by the slugs, that was done very well and scared me as a child. The entire movie Slugs is available for free on YouTube which is nice.



Audition is pretty fucking terrifying when dude is calling the girl on the phone and the girl is sleeping sitting down on the floor and then the bag in the background starts moving...that was pretty scary but if it's out of context and you're not already involved in the movie it seems rather silly. In the context of the movie you're all "What the FUCK is going on?" outside of that it's just meh.
