Can't have a lot of confidence in a guy who talks more about impacts of losing than the impact of winning big fights. Someone tell him Matthysse is fighting for exact same wba 147 trinket he is boasting about beating a Porter over and calm all that 'I'm a unified champion' stuff down.
I was a huge fan of Thurman but he better not start ducking everyone
Think Keith was always a bit overrated. He's going to try and hold on to his belts for as long as possible, so I see him avoiding Spence, Crawford, and Porter (rematch) until forced to fight one of them. I feel like those three, along with Kell Brook, would beat Thurman at this point in time.
I'm a big Thurman fan but he better not start ducking people.
The best need to fight the best, lets make these fights happen! Spence is a division monster.
Thurman is happy to stay injured and pray that Spence gets beat.
Spence needs x3 fights in 2018.
He must stay active so he can whip Thurman.
Thurman will quickly lose his place in the division because Spence is already proving he is better and Crawford is coming up in weight. He will be pushed out despite fighting or not.
Spence is his worst nightmare. He'd be facing nonstop bodyshots for twelve rounds or as long as it lasted. No way Thurman keeps Spence off himself for twelve rounds.
Thurman is getting a lot of undue hate here. Thurman has fought and beat the best. As many of you have said he is no Sugar Ray which makes his victories even more impressive. These victories were hard won and no easy feat.
You all want him to take on Spence, Crawford and others in 2018 after injury?

Garcia, he beat Garcia ;D. Anyone boasting to be best 147 should at least be able-willing to face same. He sounds all about self preservation and long game which you can understand. For all the gimmicky one liners Thurman is no dummy but if he thinks Spence or Crawford will be waiting on his 'star' or letter from his Doctor before they shift the division he's assuming way to much.
Garcia is in the same boat as Thurman. Now that they've won a belt and made a name for themselves they want massive money for easy fights.Quote:

I don't think the issue is that Keith isn't fighting those guys in his first, or even second fight back from injury. To me the issue is that he always talks about those guys needing to prove themselves as worthy/ready to fight him. If Keith was to say he would fight Spence in December 2018 after taking a couple of warm up fights, many would stop the "hate"/complaining.Quote:

Totally agree, he is running the risk of letting it pass him by. Injury or not why go out and literally dismiss and excuse away fights that will come to define the division? Talk up a Porter rematch? Maybe he's setting the bar low with something in mind but doesn't feel that way. Haymon pulls in Vargas as he does with many fighters he signs strictly to use as 'opponents', and will keep Thurman churning it out 'in house' as Crawford and Spence jr are already at the top of many must-see future scraps.Quote:

I get that your role on the board is to be contrarian. So I won’t say that this is completely BS. I’ll just point out last year he was saying he would fight the Brook/Spence winner. Then 2 months after he had his Garcia fight he decided to get elbow surgery for “bone spurs he has had for years” the week of the Brook/Spence fight. Then later he changes his story to he injured his elbow in the Garcia fight. When you tell 2 different stories it is not true. And further, if he injured his elbow in the Garcia fight he would have had surgery earlier. So that is yet another lie. The truth is the original story, that he doesn’t want to admit he had elective surgery timed specifically because he is out of excuses. So now he invents new excuses. He’s planning the tune up, then the mandatory then Garcia. Only one of these is necessary and that is only *if* his mandatory is made. 3 fights he has planned and none are legitimately currently necessary or wanted.Quote:
