Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
Neither has Lennox Lewis either....
Evander has... Bowe has...

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
Aj has but I bet Wilder is in the same camp as Tyson and Lewis.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
Is this a random fact of the day or is there a point/question?

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
Heavyweights. Knockdowns. Go figure ;D. Tyson should have a tko against him in Holyfield rematch.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
Just pointing out some interesting dynamics in fighters. They say that the heart of a champion dictates that you are challenged, so what people like Larry Merchant say.
It's just odd that the baddest man on the planet was either in ALL TO WIN FROM THE RIP, and never digged down deep to come back and win a good fight.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
Tyson was all or nothing but when he was all he was blazing!
Lennox avenged his knockouts but still down and out in his fights.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
I saw a documentary about the regressive behavior of convicted sex offenders, Tyson let Buster and Lewis savage him for the guilt he felt for past transgressions. That's what the clinical physiologist expert said anyway. Makes sense.

I have a theory, all of Tyson's knockdowns have been a result of pure exhaustion. He's never been knocked down while fresh. Most of the time he was already out on his feet. Every time he was put down, he was tired as hell.
I wonder what boxing would be today if Mike Tyson actually stayed disciplined.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
really effed me off after Ali's death arguing with younger people how Tyson was not the greatest of all time - still can't believe some younger people believe this.
I pointed out he never won when facing adversity - fact
My arguments fell on deaf ears.
I only really remember Tucker and Bruno landing decent shots on him when he was at his most fearsome. Maybe Ruddock did too but that's a fight I've not seen since it actually happened - and I can't even remember if that was before or after the Douglas fight....

The Ruddock fights were after he lost to Buster Douglas!

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
The Razzor Ruddock fights against Tyson are the fights I have watched the most. Tyson was chasing Holyfield and faced the biggest single puncher in the game. Tyson was an old 24 year old and was losing his boxing skills and discipline therefore the fight was just a slugfest. Tyson bust up Ruddock's jaw and ribs.
Softened him up for Lennox.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
To be fair to Tyson he never had it really happen that much to him and he did take a beating before going down for the count. Holyfeild is a hard comparisons because that guy could be having heart attack in the ring and still fight.

For a rep the star button on the bottom left of the post (in-between the IP and report which only mods may be able to see)
Like is below that with thanks and dislike with a thumbs up symbol.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
I agree with the point that by the time Tyson ever went down, he was exhausted and had accumulated a significant amount of punishment. Mike definitely had a solid chin, as evidenced by some of the bombs he took from Ruddock, Lewis...etc. I consider Evander the greater fighter (both p4p and at heavyweight), but Mike was more consistent prior to the Douglas fight in my opinion. I place his being the youngest to win the title and clean out the division as equal to rising from a knockdown to win.

I still maintain Tyson at 21 was good enough to beat any form of Holyfield the Douglas version or the bigger version that beat a faded Tyson.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
Tyson great but he simple was not put in the situation enough for me to say he could never come back from it. Holyfeild had to come back all the time definition of fighter showing that heart and chin can win over power and size.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
Also when people bring up fighters who where scary Tyson is brought up which he should be because he was a crazy thug who had amazing speed and power. That being said always thought Holyfeild was even worse because his self belief in himself was fucking insane not only that thought god empowered him to fuck people up. Go watch his interview after Tyson win all Holyfeild said was god was the reason i mean for everything that happen said god 100 fucking times its insane.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
That is the very definition of inspired, delusional and crazy - Evander real deal Holyfield.

We will have to agree to disagree on Holyfield. Evander had his number and would always get “up” for a Tyson fight. Horrible style match up for Mike.

Remember first 5 rounds Tyson against Holyfield were Mike's. Tyson was gassed out and a peak version would carry on the full 12. I distinctly remember round 5 where Tyson gave his last onslaught he hurt Evander to the body. Peak Tyson loved to brutalise the body.

Making pretzel memories over here ;D. Same what if about versions holds true for Holyfield no? He was labeled a walking dead man leading into fight with Mike.. truth is he was taking his shots and standing Mike still with own counters by mid point of 1st, buzzed him in 2nd. The 5th only stands out imo because it was Mikes strongest.
and for the Mike never cleanly down talk ;D..that left upperhook counter was flush on Tysons chin.

True I am going on rose tinted memory but Tyson was winning and could have sustained the attacks at his peak.
Also that knockdown was a punch to the chest not chin.

I don't think anyone will ever break Tyson's record as the youngest fighter to ever win the title and/or unify the title. Heavyweight that is.

Re: Mike Tyson NEVER got up from a knockdown to win....
Not to mention this is Heavyweight we are talking about a weight class were you can get fucked at any moment. Regardless of how good your chin is a 220 plus guy getting good hit on you is lights out most of the time.
